Couldn’t recommend South Side Trains’ consignment services more highly. Incredibly professional, convenient and effective in helping me sell my father in law’s collection. The only problem is now I’ve caught the model railroading bug myself and will likely now happily spend more money here than I ever made.

Tom Palmer deserves more than 5 stars for the super job he did of selling my collection of LGB trains and LG cable car set. He found new owners for every piece of my collection in a couple of weeks. In late August of 2023 I brought much of HO collection of both completed craftsmen kits such as Ambroid One-in-Five thousands, Hobbytown of Boston and La Belle, Also there were many unfinished kits such as American Beauty and Athearn. I was pleasantly surprised when he gave me a very substantial payment after selling a lot of my HO gauge including parts. Tom Palmer is the best and most honest person I have ever met in the model train business. Thanks Tom once again!

Great group of people, Jim was very informative and sparked my interest to get back in the hobby again. Purchased 5 beautiful locomotives that he had painted and detailed many years ago. SD45 and U30-C Milwaukee Road are now my favorite locomotives I own.

As beginners to the hobby, I feel Tom and Jeff are always welcoming and helpful. The store usually has what we need and if not, they are able to order the items quickly. My kids love to visit and see what new items they can find and see the ever changing displays.

Nice, helpful staff, nice selection, and great hours. I needed hydrocal and some bridge abutments. Had everything and then some. Even directed me to a small "pre-owned stuff" area and saved a bit of money on somethings. Whenever you can, buy local, the money stays local and is often a better deal! Although I'm from Marshall, MI this is, by far, my favorite store, and a great excuse to visit grandkids nearby!

Great little shop. Had an issue with my DCC system and programming. They got it all straightened out for me and both of my engines running as they should. Bought a couple things while we were there. Never charged me for the programming issue. Great to talk with and shoot the bull also. Will definitely be coming back.

This is a great spot for the model train enthusiast. Tom is a good guy, knows his stuff about his wares, and if he doesn't, will look them up with you right then and there. Always offers excellent prices, and on top of that will usually offer a discount. Primarily deals in HO scale model railroading, with a little bit of others present. Most likely what keeps the prices down. He has an eBay store also to get product out, but will order from practically any manufacturer for you here.

Excellent customer service! Tom is always willing to help solve issues in an efficient and cost-effective manner. There are usually other model railroad e enthusiasts in the store to converse and consult with about most train-related issues and ideas.

Truly Wonderful People Who Provide Wonderful Prices and Service

I met them via a chance purchase through eBay in 2017 and have been making the 200-mile round trip down to their brick and mortar store at least once a month ever since. Tom, the owner, always provides his bottom-line-up-front-pricing, which is nearly always the best prices you'll find anywhere, whether brick and mortar stores or on the net. Tom gives great advice, and stands behind everything that he sells; he also is a great conversationalist who will always great smiles. Steve, the service technician, is basically a magician when it comes to evaluating, repairing, and making upgrades to your model train cars and locomotives; he's done DCC, sound, LED installations and other modifications to no less than 50 HO locomotives for me and I'm like a kid on Christmas morning every time I go to pick them up. South Side Trains is simply a down-to-earth business with good old fashioned honest people operating the place who are looking to make people happy and maybe scrape out a living like the rest of us. These type good old American bedrock businesses still do exist, and I'll keep making the 200-mile round trip to get there.

This is the go-to place for anything Model Train related. I'm fairly new to the hobby, and Tom has been a huge help. His prices have almost always been as good, if not better than anywhere online, which is a huge plus!

I'm here all the time, I think I spend more here than I do on rent. Awesome that the owner is the person behind the counter. Very helpful, intuitive, and a good selection for the size of the store. If you have a question, someone there has the answer. Great place to get started in Model Trains!
