Byrdland Record Store – Union Market, Washington, DC

Byrdland is a gem of a record store located In the Union Marketplace. For its size, it has a plethora of used records, tee-shirts, and some books. I enjoyed the layout of the store that showcased antique radios and a novelty recording studio.

Stop in and pick up a title!

Awesome record store, I highly recommend! They always have cards and flyers for upcoming events—make sure to check those out. Sometimes they even have free posters!

I had the most beautiful experience today at Byrdland Records, & I will NEVER forget it! I am new to D.C., and just purchased my very first record player. I searched TikTok for record stores in D.C., and everyone recommended Byrdland! The shop is easy to find, very well organized, spacious, & nostalgic. I neglected to get the name of the gentleman that helped me, but he will know I’m referring to him upon reading this. I purchased 4 records, and a “OH HE DEAD” tote from a local band. The record selection, store playlist, record knowledge & hospitality is chef’s kiss! Upon leaving, the gentleman that helped me informed me that the band whose tote I just purchased had an event at the store and left behind some flowers, and he offered a bouquet to me! When he presented them he said, “ Welcome to D.C.!” When I tell you that made my day, weekend, week, month, & possibly the rest of my year - it’s an understatement! The service alone was amazing, but that gesture just warmed my entire heart. Not to mention, the bouquet is BEAUTIFUL! I left smiling, and I will return smiling as you now have a loyal customer in me! Thank you, thank you, thank you so very much, I truly appreciate your thoughtfulness! I can’t wait to return for the Rihanna album (and more), and just to support & say hello!

It’s always a joy shopping here. Definitely on the pricier side, but nothing out of the ordinary for a store in the city. Staff is super friendly. Store is clean and well organized. Great selection of new records. OK selection of used records.

Clean and friendly staff. Great selection of new records. Used record selection could use a little work. Picked up a couple albums for cheap though! Thanks!

Highly recommend for both record purchases and stereo equipment repair. Staff is so nice. Patrick took my father’s old turntable and cleaned and repaired it to full function. He always was upfront about costs and what was possible. We are now enjoying our old records on a turntable from my childhood! Thank you

Really solid store. Diverse collection of vinyl for such a small joint. Most records are new but they have a few stacks of used. Pricey but good cuts. I picked up an Al Green record, a classic Prince record, and a Thelonious Monk live limited edition for a total of about $80. Friendly staff, not snobby.

Good selection and well organized. The staff was knowledgeable and helpful (even gave me some free promo stickers) about the business and their ordering processes.

The coolest part is they actually keep a stock of the albums from bands that play at their location up the street (SongByrd) so if you catch a show but can't get an album then you can always get one later!

10/10 will always pop in if in the area.

Good selection of new albums, and a small but carefully selected variety of used records. The album I was looking for wasn't in stock, but I had a nice chat with an employee and he had a lot of other recommendations. Do be aware that this store is a bit on the expensive side.

Great! Lots to choose from and they can order stuff for you. Good amount of classics on sale or on discount. They carry speakers, record players, and more. First time, I got there about 20 minutes before they open and a staff member open the door for me, he took time from eating his lunch to help me with questions. Really nice place!

Byrdland is the best! I emailed them to double check if they had a record and they told me it wasn’t out on vinyl yet. When it was released a month later, their buyer placed an order and let me know they were holding a copy in the store for me. Thanks for all you do!

I love this outpost. Solid record selection, a focus on DC music and bands. The owner was at the counter and she seemed positively delightful. One nice touch was albums from bands that had played at sister location Songbyrd (in AdMo) had a little sticker indicating they had played there with the date of the show, which I was tickled by.

Sticker said that the record was 20 dollars and got charged 33 dollars for the record.
Didn't notice until I was home and got the receipt, contacted customer service and they fixed it promptly!
Surprising to see
