Whistle Stop at The American Cafe

I was really impressed with the Whistle Stop. I brought my dad and he really enjoyed the atmosphere with the train memorabilia. The menu offered a great selection and the entrees were priced lower than I expected. The food was very good. I had the sea bass (pictured here) with cheese grits and Brussel sprouts. The grits were amazing and the Brussels were sweet and tangy. My dad had fish and Chips and loved it. Portions were generous and the staff was super friendly.

There's a reason this place has won an award for best themed restaurant!! If you're a railroad buff, you'll enjoy everything they have on display, and the menu with railroad theming too! Food was good, service was great. What a neat little place to visit!

Such a cute restaurant. The food and service were very good and even better, the atmosphere. A little pricey but worth it. Must try the fried green tomatoes!

The food was good and my guest loved it. The usual tho French fries not hot but rather room temp and not a fresh batch!!🤷‍♀

My grandsons and I had a wonderful experience here. The decor is so sweet and pretty. The wait staff makes you feel like you are at your favorite aunts house chowing down at the family reunion. I can not imagine anyone not loving this place!

The portions are huge, I had the shrimp and grits, my husband had the ribs and pork, both were VERY good!
The staff was friendly and the atmosphere is great, we ate on the rooftop. Highly recommend trying this great place!

My family ordered take out here and everything tasted excellent and it was all well packaged too. We got the pretzel, the pork chop, the BBQ chicken and two of the salads. All the meals were delicious including the sides they came with. The rolls are a must-get also. Definitely will be back!

Adorable! Came across by accident. We had wings, hot dog platter with crispy onion straws. Homemade chili on the dogs. Beef stew "soup" was very flavorful. Too full for dessert but we'll be back!

Sherry took care of us on a gorgeous April afternoon while we listened to live music. We got a spicy bloody Mary and it was phenomenal! The Aloha Pizza was really great too. It had pulled pork (soooo tender and juicy) and bbq sauce on a wood-fired pizza dough. Will definitely be stopping in again!

The ambience is really cool! Lots of neat vintage decor but it doesn't feel cluttered. Very clean. Nice staff. I had the shrimp and grits and 1000% recommend! Absolutely incredible and a perfect portion. Had to wait for about half an hour even though there were only 2 tables, but that was okay. Also slightly expensive. Overall I will be back!

We are visiting from Arizona and stopped in just to eat at the Whistle Stop! It was beyond Great, especially the fried green tomatoes!

Nice little restaurant with a good selection of dining choices. The staff was amazing - friendly, attentive, and worked as a team. I had the daily lunch special, a lobster poboy, and the flavor was very good! It was fresh lobster - not frozen - and you could taste it! The roll was perfectly toasted and the veggies were fresh. I would go back!

The shimp and grits where delicious! We order the large portion but they made us the small. When the waitress noticed, she brought us a second small for no charge. The kids meals came in a little train which was a blast! The kids loved it and all the train decorations around the place. We will definitely be back.

One of the best burgers in Greenville in my opinion, the onion fries were cooked just right, the staff was courteous and professional, our waitress was Jessica. She was prompt and treated us like family.

I was pleasantly surprised, the food was excellent and the staff super friendly. I got Vickie's Chicken Salad on wheat berry bread and fries. My husband got the potato soup with corn muffin and an order of fried green tomatoes (really good).

What a fun place!!! The decor is very retro cool and the food is delicious!!! And yes, they do have the best fried green tomatoes.

Love the Whistle Stop ! I have tried several different restaurants here and their food and I always go back to the Whistle Stop ! Great team working there and enjoy them as well, and their food is always great ! Can’t wait for the top to open ( when it’s warmer) April is great , always a good band playing and sit in the open top deck of the building! Highly recommended ! If you come to Travlers Rest you have to go to the WHISTLE STOP !

Love the Whistle Stop especially roof top ! Great food and excellent service and love the variety of music that plays there ! Gotta stop there and enjoy the atmosphere ! There is a outside area that also sells ice cream and icy drinks non alcohol for anyone walking the trail or bicycles and that is convenient ! Plus picnic tables outside !

Ordered a BLT and a side salad. Husband ordered a burger and rings. Food was the right temp and tasty. Were en route from Atlanta to Asheville; this spot in Travelers Rest was just what we needed...not a chain but open, had a table available. Server was good...very competent and pleasant. Prices were competitive with similar restaurants. Would recommend and would be regular customers if we lived closer.

Fantastic place! Our server Sherri was the friendliest person you could have a pleasure of meeting. The steak I had was fantastic and had great flavor that beats some of the high priced steakhouses. If you are in Travelers Rest this is a must stop.
