Navy - Merchant Marine Memorial

We went there to watch the fireworks for the 4th of July and it was the best view we had so far ! We were just in front of the National Mall and could see the fireworks over the Potomac River and the Washington monument. It was just magical !!

I usually will run by this place along the Mt Vernon Trail. I always enjoy being around this area as it's nice and the flowers add a really pleasant, calming touch. Located right between the Potomac and the Pentagon.

If you're a local, walking around this area is a must. If you're visiting, I'd walk from Arlington Cemetery to here as it's a more nature-y view of the Lincoln and Washington Monument as well.

Majestic memorial of sea gulls in flight with gorgeous views across the river. Two miles from the Teddy Roosevelt Island parking lot on the Mt. Vernon Trail. Can also be reached as a much shorter walk from the south end Lyndon B. Johnson memorial parking lot on the southbound side of GW Parkway.

We stopped by here today while we were out exploring the LBJ Memorial Grove, which you can walk or bike to from here. We had a great view of DC on the water. Lots of cyclists & joggers were out and about and it was a great find.

We parked near Gravelly point and walked the trail . It’s really peaceful and the path is even and paved.

Beautiful spot. Tulips in the right season. And great for fishing.

On the GW Parkway, the Navy Merchant Marine Memorial is located on Lady Bird Johnson Park. It's a memorial commemorating the sailors of the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Merchant Marine who served during WWI. Nicknamed Waves and Gulls, the statue depicts 7 seagulls on top of a wave. There's a concrete plaza around the memorial and two flagstone walks that lead up to it. In my opinion, it's a very intricate and well-designed memorial.

During the spring, gorgeous tulips blossom around the memorial. Coupled with views of the Potomac River and the Washington Monument across the river, this is an idyllic and very photogenic spot. I usually stop by on my runs along the Mount Vernon trail. It's a beautiful but overlooked landmark in D.C.

One of my favorite memorials in DC. Its definitely one of the prettiest and is a nice place to enjoy the view of the river.

A nice view of the city without any crowds. About a 2.5 mile walk from Roosevelt Island.

Great views of the DC Skyline along the Mount Vernon Trail.

This is one of the least visited but best monuments to visit in dc.
