This is a very clean and tidy visitor center. The history of the mill and mines are fascinating for history lovers. The bathroom was clean and well maintained. The souvenir selection is extensive and reflects the park extremely well. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. The rangers I met seem to love the park and be dedicated to its protection and enjoyment.

This is a wonderful visitors center. You walk across a bridge over the river and there is a working water wheel. There are bathrooms available under the wide porch. They have gem mining but it is currently closed for renovations. The gift shop has some basic camping/hiking gear. A cooler with drinks and ice cream. There is a kids section. You can get Christmas ornaments and tshirts. At the register there are stickers. The staff are friendly and helpful.

This is a beautiful little gem hidden away at the bottom of Roan Mountain on the Tennessee side. I highly, highly recommend stopping on your next trip crossing Roan Mountain. Or better yet, pack a picnic and make a day of it! Bonus, a park ranger saw us with our 2 babies (kitties) trying to take a picture and stopped and took a few for us!

Jen RN, travel nurse on assignment in Johnson City. The hike here is short, but leads you to an old iron ore mind. No entrance, but any time spent out in the woods is a good time. The attendant inside gave us easy directions to the lookout point, just ahead about 10 miles. Decently priced souvenirs as well.

The visitor's center is nice! We drove up to the top of Roan Mountain, and then stopped in at the Gristmill Visitor Center on the way back last weekend. We decided to walk the Cloudland Trail which is a little steep going up and coming down, but worth the hike to see several large formations of rock outcroppings. The little Iron Ore museum was a treat too! Love the Doe River mountain stream that runs through the area, and we glimpsed some beautiful fall leaves. Highly recommended!

This is one of our favorite centers. The setting is perfect and location is convenient. The center features an old mill which has been converted into a museum of sorts. The gift shop has plenty of AT related merchandise. The staff are friendly & helpful. There are clean restrooms, a nice porch to sit on and rock, and a couple of short hiking trails. Wheelchair accessible.

Beautiful intro to Roan Mountan State Park. Clean rest rooms, interesting gift shop and very informative interpretation center. Nice parking area and bridge to the center. Some hiking behind it. Plan to return in warmer weather to explore further.
