Issues still arriving years after having our house built. Most recently, a letter came from the postmaster saying our mailbox isn't the correct height. We haven't changed the height since Old School built the house. This is not the only thing that has not been to code, just the most recent found. The only reason I am giving 2 stars instead of 1 or none (if I could), is because hopefully more people will read the review and stay away from them.

Old School builds a solid house, but their communication and attention to detail is severely lacking. We found out that the person in charge of monitoring our build was "distracted" during our build which caused a lot of things to be missed - for example, they were painting our fireplace the morning that we were supposed to be closing... Mudding had to be redone because it was awful (but wasn't addressed until WE said something - it was an issue that was hard to miss), they tried to paint a chip in a brand new tile instead of replace it until we said something, blue tape was removed from our walkthrough without the issue being fixed, and they had a signed agreement for some issues to be fixed within 30 days of closing and they ghosted us on communication after we closed so those things were never fixed. We filled out the home warranty form prior to our 1 year being up and the guy in charge of that fixed 3 small things out of a long list and when I tried to ask when the other items on the list would be fixed he said "what else needs to be done?" When I thing listed everything left to be fixed, he never replied. One of the things they did come and fix was paint chipping on the headwalls which is already chipping again. So we are stuck fixing things that should have been honored in the home warranty. Overall, we like our house, but wish Old School actual cared about communication and paid more attention to detail - especially when building a house at a certain price point. Wouldn't build with them again. If you do build with them, make sure EVERYTHING you want fixed is fixed before closing because once they get their money, they don't care anymore.

At the time our floor tile was installed, we noticed the work had several major issues - spacers were not used (with hexagon tiles, this was a major cosmetic flaw), tiles were chipped, and there was grout missing or cracked. We brought these issues up repeatedly to Old School throughout our build and at our final walkthrough without any resolution. On several occasions, OS was made aware of major cosmetic and practical issues with the tile and admitted it should have been resolved.

Several months later, we were able to finally get our floor tile replaced. Unfortunately, this work was done by the same crew as before, which OS has repeatedly admitted was incompetent. They’ve even gone so far as to admit our project single-handedly influenced their decision to switch to a more qualified tile contractor. With this replacement, we were still left with chipped tiles, cracked and missing grout, and serrated edging where tile was not cut with the proper equipment. The most egregious error being a double layer of tile through 328 sq ft of our newly built home. The tile crew did not give us the option to have the first layer removed in this area for a fresh application and we were unable to advocate for a proper job on our own. During this work, OS was absent in overseeing our project despite our calls for help.

We learned OS experienced a change in staff around the time our tile was being replaced and we were left in the dark. When we finally regained contact, OS came out in person and evaluated our issues. They acknowledged our project was managed poorly and agreed that there were significant problems in how the work was carried out and in the final finish. Despite this acknowledgement, the only offer they presented in making things right was to address the side effects of the double flooring and not the underlying condition. They claimed that tile over tile is a common practice in new builds and went to great lengths to rationalize the current state of our flooring as acceptable by ignoring risks and turning away from the principle of the matter.

In addition to being left with over 300 sq ft of our new build with double tile flooring due to their mismanagement our project, the treatment we received during this time was unprofessional at best, and we’ve heard similarly-themed stories from neighbors.
