Been going here for years with our family, and we always have an amazing time. Some of the best midwestern skiing I’ve encountered. Still family owned, and you get that vibe which is something I love. I will keep going there, and continue to recommend this place to all of our friends.

It's been many years since skiing at Whitecap Mountain...what a great time. Reading some of the reviews, you would have thought differently. I know Whitecap Mountain is under new management and can say they are definitely going in the right direction. My wife and I actually purchase season passes for the 23-24 season...can't wait!

We are here for skiing. It is December 2022 and they have snow packed, groomed and lift operating. Hotel hallways still smell of fresh paint (actually a bit too much) but our room did not have the smell. All you need to do to go skiing, is just get out of your room, ski down to the lift, and enjoy the mountains downhill skiing. If you are coming non busy time wait to see the lift price at the counter, at our stay they had nice discount.

First off, this is a gem of a ski hill in Wisconsin. We had one of the most memorable ski days of all time this past Saturday. They just had a fresh 12"+ snow storm a day or so before we arrived. The powder was heavenly and the smiles couldn't be ripped off our faces if you tried. I don't know who is in charge of grooming but THANK YOU for whatever you did the night before, the conditions were ALL TIME. We skied until our legs fell off and it was glorious. If you feel sad skiing in the midwest because you know the west is best, just hit this place up after a fresh dumping of snow, you'll soon remember that feeling of out west even if the vertical is minimal per run. The variable terrain and different runs/cliffs remind you that the midwest isn't just ice and groomers.

The employees were fantastic and welcoming, big thank you to everyone and every lifty that served us. If I have to serve this place any complaints they would be 1, backpacks are not allowed, even my thin osprey glade 12 specifically designed for lifts, the lift attendants were extremely nice about it but it's still a bummer. 2, I don't think I've ever been more confused traversing around a hill/trail map, it took the first half of the day for me to realize where we were exactly and how to get to the lodge...maybe that's my own fault, but I do feel they could have better signage/directions where to go. 3, the lifts are unfortunately pretty slow and there are a lot of flat spots to get stuck in if you're not careful. Other than that though, I hope this place never goes away and I hope to be back!!! Also pro tip...Hit up the Wine Hut, 10/10 the BEST place to warm up and get a drink or quick bite to eat!

January 2020 Update:
Last year the main lodge burned down, but the hill didn't miss a beat! The Hotel now has a great restaurant and bar. The mountain side wine hut has an expanded deck, with a bar and grilled food served. It's a great place to warm up while out Skiing. The skiing is Fantastic as there is a new Groomer that keeps everything smooth. I've noticed quite a few areas of trees have been brushed out for glade skiing. I didn't leave the trees for a whole trip this year. This mountain has the best terrain for snowboarding too. I've had many friends compare this hill to places out west. I've been coming here every year for years now, and it just keeps getting better! We even had my 2 year old son learning to ski this year!

2018:
I was just up there for Christmas weekend 2018. The staff said they are 6 months into a 5 year renovation plan and I cant believe how much has already been improved upon. The new restaurant and bar are fabulous! Brand new ski and snowboard rentals came in while I was there, and the lifts are up and running safely after years of neglect. They still have the best terrain for skiing and boarding in the midwest! I'll be back again next year!

The staff is always super friendly and helpful no matter where I run into them. Seeing some nice improvements to the slopes and am always impressed with your quality of dining choices at the bar. LOVE your burgers!! And disc golf?? When did this happen? We'll be back soon.

Awesome ski area! So much variety on the trails. Everyone can find terrain that is good for them, from the hardest black diamond runs to the long groomers. And it’s so large that you can ski for days and not be repeating the same runs. When there’s powder it is truly amazing with untracked powder for days. We will be back.

I recently visited Whitecap for the first time, and I was impressed! Yeah, it isn’t the most flashy place, but there was a comfy bed to sleep in after a long day, and honestly the skiing was wonderful. There was a large variety of difficulties to allow me to challenge myself on some runs, but the more experienced people with me were able to go out and have fun, and challenge themselves as well! The staff was so friendly and kind! I loved getting to talk with all the lift operators and hang out in the wine hut. In the evenings, we were able to meet tons of different people from all over when we were relaxing in the hot tub. I had a great experience and would definitely go back! (Also it was -15° and I had a severely sprained ankle but here is a picture of me looking goofy at Whitecap)

I used to come here as a child and it is just as good now as it was back then! This place is a must visit for any ski lovers here in the Midwest, it has plenty of beginner runs for novice skiers/snowboarders, while also having a plethora of challenging runs for the more experienced crowd.

This is worth a trek up through the beautiful north woods.

This was my first time to Whitecap and I've gotta say, it's the best skiing ive I've found in Wisconsin. The rugged terrain and fresh powder gave me a challenge that I haven't found at other resorts that just groom all the runs out. I was sad to hear that management wanted to groom more of the advanced terrain. There is plenty of runs to keep beginners busy so it would be a shame to lose some of that challenge. I didn't even get to all the good snow because one of the lifts was closed but I'll definitely be back again soon. If you're looking for great powder and tree skiing, this is the place to go.

Fantastic ski hill, punches way above its weight class, a ton of snow and feel like you're out west at times due to no grooming on some sections. Some cliffs and chutes. My favorite place to ski in Wisconsin.

Best skiing in the area! Many more runs than Indian Head, Powder Horn and Black Jack. And the runs are longer. Several nice places to stay right on the hill. Can ski right out onto the hills. No need to drive anywhere. We've been coming here for 30 years and live it! Great place to teach young ones to ski. There are many easy runs so kids don't need to be stuck on the bunny hill.

I have been to Whitecap many times and I have to say that this hill is my absolute favorite. Now you may not get the very best food or the very best sitting area inside but that shouldn't be the deciding factor. The hill is great and Whitecap has a great variety of run types. You get that cozy at home feeling as you get to know all of the staff and sleep inside the old cabins. I have skiied all over the Midwest and again I must say this is the best ski resort you can go to for your money.

Wonderful runs, plenty of snow. Love the variety between the three mountains and the beautiful rock formations. I pray that they can rebuild following their chimney fire that destroyed the lodgetwo years ago. Starting first with more bathroom facilities. One porta potty for all of their guests was not enough. Particularly during a pandemic. My daughter will be scarred from that experience for awhile! Despite that, the hill deserves a 5 star.

Not a glitzy place at all. If you're into the lodge/bar experience that often goes with ski resorts, this is not the place for you. As other reviewers have noted, with the burning down of the chalet last winter, Whitecap is still very short on amenities, including flush toilets. But if the on-slope experience is your thing, I don't think there's a better place in the state of Wisconsin! There's enough vertical and enough variety to satisfy all alpine types. The groomers were done up nice, and there were plenty of black and gladed runs that were left alone. We didn't hit good fluffies while we were there, weather just didn't accommodate, but we had a blast cruising the corduroy. Very anxious to come here on a powder day! Also anxious to see what the new owner does to upgrade this place. Have always thought it had so much potential, and excited to see what it becomes. Give it a chance, folks, it takes time to turn things around. In the meantime, c'mon, it's northern Wisconsin, not Aspen! Enjoy the northwoods, unpretentious atmosphere, and the great skiing!

Great place for skiing! Family friendly slopes and never have to wait very long to get on the lifts. New upgrades every year. Must stop at the wine hut for a hot cider, hot chocolate or a beer. Highly recommend!

Just spent a few days there, although the Long Chair is down they were working on it and it looks like it nears completion. They were pulling people with a snow machine so that makes alot of the resort skiable with the exception of eagle which has the single and double black diamond runs.. I did climb up to eagle to go down the dragon a few times.. We always have a blast here as a family and enjoy the vintage ski experience. If you love no boundary boarding or skiing this is the place. Our room was large and clean the pool was great, the hot tub was great.

My husband and I skied Whitecap and stayed at the Lodge. It was a very positive experience and I would highly recommend it. We arrived late on a Friday night (after11) and the desk that was supposed to close at 10, was still being staffed by a very helpful and friendly woman who answered the first timer's questions. Yes, the Lodge room was "retro", dark panelling with old style TV, but it was clean, with fresh clean sheets, lots of towels, and plenty warm heater, with nice size compact fridge. Location, location! It was truly ski in/ ski out. We put our skis on as the easiest method to get to the breakfast dining room in the AM. Fun! The staff were all friendly and helpful. Let's talk skiing. Scenery was gorgeous. NO LINES for the lifts. The only shortcoming was a lack of signage designating the trails. The staff made a great effort to compensate for that by being available at the top of the lifts to answer questions and point you in the right direction. There were numerous uncrowded wide green runs that were great for the kids to make big turns. A great place for them to learn and practice. We did not ski the black diamonds as our focus was skiing with kids in mind:blues and greens. There were plenty of designated expert trails. I just cannot comment on them. We got a great deal on a groupon and I will certainly be hoping for that deal next ski season. The pool in the Lodge was hot and big! Wifi only in designated public areas, but that makes family time even better, IMO. We will return. Thanks, Whitecap, for a fun weekend.

Great skiing but the biggest surprise was the incredible food they served. The western burger was a top 3 all time. We had five in our group and we all enjoyed the food.

This hill with a loyal following recently underwent a change in ownership and significant renovations to make a bonafide cafe, restaurant, and bar in previously unused space. They did a great job. Chairlift and hill updates continue; but, for the first year out of the gates, the future looks promising. Excellent terrain, some of the best (most unique and variable) of the area's hills. Super friendly, long-time staff through both owners. Rustic. Excellent restaurant: burgers, flatbreads, pizzas, wraps. Excellent bar. This place is worth the drive.
