This is quite possibly the best definition of a Hidden Gem ❤ Why am I in this part of Maine? I don’t know… Does this place want to make me come back all the time? 100%
The people who work in this establishment are some of the nicest people I’ve ever met. Not to mention the food, the food is out of this world. Their creativity is unmatched. The food is extremely fresh. Everything tastes like it’s made with extra love. And I can get a cocktail too??? I wish I could rate this place 6 stars if I’m being honest

You wouldn’t know from the road how lovely this place is! Scrumptious veggie and vegan treats (and I’m not vegan but this stuff’s so good it doesn’t matter). Little pretty baked goods, breakfast burritos, etc. Lots of interesting to-go beverages and pantry items as well as cute gifts. Drip coffee available (nothing special). The best part is the seating overlooking the water. Cozy modern atmosphere, friendly staff.

Salt and Pepper Social is absolutely the place to be! Wether you’re vegan, vegetarian or just curious, this plant based/vegan market and restaurant will leave you amazed and just itching to come back for more!!

My partner and I came from Rochester, New York and stumbled upon Salt and Pepper Social! As non-local vegans, we were stunned at the detail and flavor in everything!

The food is only shown up by the phenomenal guest service and warmth shown by the folks working there.

This up-to-the-minute vegan spot overlooking a tidal river in mid-Coast Maine is right up there with the best of the best high-end vegan dining experiences I’ve had . They open for dinner a couple of nights a week and we happened to be in town for one of them. The “filet” was a revelation and the Lions Mane mushroom situation just upped the game considerably - the waitress explained the mushrooms are steamed, brined and then fried, resulting in an eating experience that was nothing short of heavenly. I don’t even know what to say about the focaccia, only that if it is on the menu you must order it. And they have soft serve! A must-do if you are in the area

Loved visiting this beautiful vegan restaurant and market by the water! I was a little sad that they didn’t have more brunch options on the day we went; I guess that is now a weekend option along with dinner service. Still, I had a tasty breakfast sandwich and the person with me had a rainbow pasta salad and some pastries. The porch is great, everything is spotless, and the staff are incredibly kind. The market doesn’t feature stuff you can easily find, showing they have carefully curated the items. I think both vegans and non-vegans would enjoy it :)

Absolutely exquisite food! Everything for the event S+P catered for us was beautifully presented, absolutely delicious and so vibrant. Delivery and set up could not have been easier and the custom menu designed to be a crowd pleaser for extended family was amazing. The photos speak for themselves but if you could only taste the food you’d know it’s even better than it looks, which is saying something! Would recommend them highly for any special event.

This was our third time here and everything we have tried is on point! We are so excited to have a plant based market and cafe close by (20 minute drive) & will even sit in the Wiscasset traffic for these healthy and delicious offerings. They have also curated the best of the best vegan market options, including incredible plant based cheeses that stand up to any dairy cheese out there.

Had no idea about this place! And....... the only reason I went inside is because I saw a sign that said dairy free soft serve! So we walked in and must say I fell in love. Beautiful setup 😃 friendly staff🙂 great selection of dairy free items😊 even menu looked so 😊 I got the peanut butter/chocolate mixed swirl and it was absolutely delicious 🤤 so happy to have found this place! Thank you for having that ice cream sign out there😂 can't wait to try their menu items.

Damariscotta is a crowded dining market, and Salt and Pepper Social absolutely stands out in this field. Their food is top-notch, their location is lovely and refreshingly quiet for a busy part of town. But what really makes them spectacular is their incredible service; you feel truly invited and welcome in such a genuine manner. Even your first visit feels like you're already a regular. I've really enjoyed recommending Salt and Pepper to people, especially as they are such great ambassadors for the versatility of vegan cuisine, and I'm thrilled to have them as part of the Damariscotta landscape.

Great spot even if you're not vegan. I'm not, but I crave their spicy, gluten free breakfast burrito! SO GOOD! really great staff, friendly and efficient. Definitely a must stop for pantry Staples as well

The new S+P Social lives up to and exceeds all expectations. We already knew Shelby and Payson could make amazing vegan food from attending their pop ups, but the market is absolutely delightful. Delicious breakfast sandwiches and burritos, excellent ready to bake meals, perfect salads, and a great selection of vegan goodies all in a beautiful setting. We were too early for lunch, but we will be back. We drive 2 hours to visit these ladies for good reason. Bring a cooler- you'll wanna stock up.

We come here again and again for the amazing fresh made food and market items. We live a couple hours away so we sometimes bring the cooler and stock up on a bunch of their frozen pre-made meals. You'd never know any of this was vegan, it's that good, and that's part of the point. S+P proves that a plant based lifestyle doesn't have to be a compromise. Even the frozen items are just as good when reheated at home. The owners and staff are all amazing and so friendly. Great location with nice views, even an enclosed patio with heater!

Absolute 10 out of 10! Not only was the food delicious, but the owner was so friendly and welcoming. The chocolate croissants were decadent and the views from the patio were such a treat. I could have sat there all day! Loved the eco-friendly touches (including cloth napkins and cloth hand towels in the restroom). I can't wait to visit again!

We went for Friday evening happy hour. Such a lovely spot with a great patio that has views of the river. Very beautiful space and relaxing environment with good food, great drinks, friendly staff, good music. We'll go back a lot this summer.

We visited the market twice while in town for the weekend. Everything we had (chocolate croissant, coffee and chocolate soft serve, a tomato pastry/tart, lemon and lavender macaron) was amazing. We also stocked up on hard to find groceries. We're going to have to make the 1+ hr drive back to visit the market and get more amazing food!

Expertly prepared vegan food. Interesting variety of dishes. Great, informed service. Very nice view from the back porch dining room.

Best vegan and gluten free breakfast/lunch options in Damariscotta! ...I just wish they were open all year

Shelby and Payson catered my son and daughter-in-law’s wedding on April 2. Everything was beyond my expectations. The food was absolutely incredible as was the presentation and professionalism. Shelby and Payson made everything easy for us and they and their crew were a pleasure to work with. Our guests, most who are not vegan, raved about the food. They are absolutely incredible and the food so outstandingly delicious! Thank you for helping make this day so very special!

OMG! Heaven has opened and sent down some manna... I was SO desperate to find a source of elevated vegan food in mid-coast Maine to satisfy my palate and energy needs - I took out an ad in the local newspaper looking for a private chef. S&P answered my call! My freezer is now stocked with unbelievably delicious food that I go to everyday knowing that I'm eating beautiful food that's good for me and the planet. While my housemates eat frozen pizza, I am empowering my body with nutrients and nourishing foods for my soul. P.S. my house-mate meat-eaters are stealing my leftovers, need I say more?

A must stop! They have some vegan essentials that I've never seen in a brick and mortar store like soy curls and better than bouillon.

More importantly, they have vegan ice cream, a huge selection of fake cheeses, and delicious baked goods and food. Try it even if you're not vegan!
