Old Independence Regional Museum

Very cool place to visit if you're in the area

This was my first visit to the Old Independence Regional Museum. I learned a lot about the history of the area I now live in. The museum staff worked in conjunction with The Smithsonian Museum for one of their current exhibits. The staff were all friendly & welcoming. The Curator spent time talking with us about her collaboration with the Smithsonian and how she tried to include local artifacts and information to make it meaningful for locals. I can say unequivocally that she did so, and did it well! I highly recommend a visit to the OIRM. After my visit, I sent in my registration & payment to become a member. I'm looking forward to joining the Quilting Group soon, and finding more ways to become a part of the Museum Community.

This local museum was really cute! There were many interesting historical facts about life in the past. Additionally you got to learn about some local heroes. The staff was incredibly nice and knowledgeable! Definitely a great place to stop!

This place is full of things that explain the history of Independence County. I recommend you check it out if you are a history buff.

This is probably the best local museum I've ever visited. The exhibits were well crafted and the staff were very friendly. The history of the area is fascinating. I will return.

Great place to learn about history

I was amazed at the amount of historical and genealogical materials in their collection. The staff was super friendly and very knowledgeable. My 8 year old granddaughter was with me and loved the interactive museum and staff and did not want to leave. Batesville is incredibly lucky to have such a valuable resource.

A fantastic museum with local info. Several times a year they do “family day” and you can visit for free, plus they have crafts and demos going on that are really fun! We have made our own paper from pulp, seen apples pressed in a 100+ yr old apple press, made fancy paper airplanes, made animal prints in plaster, made bird feeders, and too much more to list!! It’s a great place!!

This place is one of the more interesting and important places in the county, has tons of information that would have long been forgotten by time. If you need help they are more than willing and might I add capable to assist you, genealogy, cave, mines, topographical maps of the area it's all here and many interactive exhibits. Definitely a great stop.

This place was definitely a hidden gem. We were marking places off of our passports for AR. The lady that worked there was super helpful and explained the answers to every question we asked. My kids were fascinated!

Love this museum! Interesting for adults and children. Lots to see

Was a wonderfully done museum. Learned a lot about the history of Batesville and loved that they had hands-on displays for the younger crowd.

It was so fun. The staff is so friendly. Nice gift shop very reasonable prices. Something for everyone.

As far as small local museums go this has to by and far be one of my favorites for how much effort they put into putting on free community wide events. I go to everything they have to offer and my daughter always has a blast

The staff was super sweet and the place was...amazing!! So much information and nicely laid out for visitors. We can't wait to go back. 😁

Local history all in one place. The children loved the exhibits and the staff was exceptional. Definitely a must see for locals and visitors.
