The owner and his wife were fabulous - upon check in, they gave us a history of the motel and the surrounding area, a map pointing out good restaurants and attractions to see, and more. You can tell they have a lot of passion for the restoration of this hotel! The rooms were great - still historic and felt a bit like stepping back in time, but updated, clean, and each themed with a different movie star. I can't say enough good things about this motel and Kingman in general, and can't wait to come back!

El Travatore Motel
Route 66 Kingman, Arizona

We have visited Route 66 Kingman numerous times, and there has been one motel that we have been curious about, and that would be the El Trovatore Motel. So on our last road trip we decided to book our room at the motel for several days.

When we arrived, I knew that we had met the owners Sam and Monica. From what I had read in some of the reviews of that motel, I already knew that Sam was quite the talker, and he loves to talk about the history of Kingman. Well, this happened, and I didn't mind it at all. In fact, we had a great conversation that lasted till 1:00 AM. Both Sam and Monica are great, and they made us feel comfortable. We talked about different subjects from Route 66 to Hospitality Management. They are great, and they let us pick the room.

The room was spacious and comfortable. Each room had a theme, and the one we picked happened to have a photo of Clint Eastwood. The room had a desk and a mini fridge, and complimentary WiFi.

They have limited staff. We only met one staff member and he was great. He basically did everything from housekeeping to maintenance . I had a long conversation with him. He told me he loves working with Sam and Monica, and he really loves his job. As someone who has managed hotel staff at different properties, I really appreciate his hard work and guest service skills. I will just say we gave him a much deserved tip before leaving.

The property was great, especially with the murals around the building, and it was always clean. They had an area where people could barbecue. The property was quiet, and we could barely hear any traffic.

We had a wonderful stay, and we definitely will stay there again.

Nice to stay in a very different and fun motel. Very nice welcome at reception desk. A history of the motel and the area. Anecdotes about celebrities who stayed there.

We loved everything about this little "blast from the past" motel! The proprietor was very gracious and informative during the check-in process, and shared many interesting stories about the local area. Can't say enough good things about it. Preserving history is never easy and we greatly appreciate the efforts to keep El Travatore alive for the next generation!

Went to visit my son for the first time since he moved to Arizona. I didn't realize we'd be staying on the historic route 66. The room was nice and clean. The lady gave us recommendations of where to eat. I'd probably stay here again!!

After a long drive from LA the Motel is a gem, Sam and his lovely wife were the perfect hosts. We loved our room the Marilyn Munroe Suite, delightful little room, with original features. We had a couple of nights here and slept like babies, we shall return.

This is the third time I’ve stayed here. It’s a historic Route 66 motel that shows it’s age. But it’s not real expensive and the ambiance of the place is part of it’s charm.

The rooms are “themed” with pictures of whichever star’s room that you are staying in and when you enter the room, the TV is on showing a movie on the TCM.

The bathroom is in it’s original condition, meaning that it has original tile and old fixtures. Is that a problem? No. Everything works, but not with modern features. That’s part of the stay.

Sam, the owner, greets you and is willing to give you a lesson about the city and Route 66 that goes through it.

Yes, I’ve stayed here three times and will stay again. Everything is clean and functions as it should. Individuals that critique this place are looking for a modern motel at a cheap price. This is a place that has history and shows it.

I stayed here about a year ago and just recommended it to a friend on his road trip, so figured this was a good time to recommend it to all the Google strangers out there.

The owners and his wife are a lot of fun and a fanatic about the history of this place and the folklore of route 66 both in the Grapes of Wrath era and the 50s family holiday era. Actually our conversation lead me to reroute part of our trip and do The Route 66, it really was a kick.

Apparently this place was the only hotel for miles to have steam heat in its day, a big luxury for the time.

The rooms:
We stayed in the James Dean room.
If you're into nostalgia on a budget, this is your place. The rooms still have that golden age of Hollywood, yet being restored feel. Not over polished , but in fairly good condition. The owners wife even made sure to turn on the Turner Movies Classic channel to emphasis the feel of the room. The cave shower was pretty cool, something I've never seen before.

The nostalgia and the stay was above my expectations.... especially for the price. Enjoy :)

If your into a nostalgic Route 66 trip, make sure to ask the owner about other stays, eats, and things to do along the way.

If you can step away from the amenities of the modern world and appreciate the old world charm of historic Route 66 and old Hollywood then this place is fantastic. The owner is passionate about the history of Kingman and eagerly shared his knowledge as we checked in. The room was clean and well kept and the bathroom was original to the 1930s. I recommend this place as an experience along your Route 66 road trip.

This was an excellent stop on my travel, the rooms (Marylin's Room) were awesomely clean and the equipment very new, while being very spacious and cozy. The bathroom was fairly small due to the original plan I assume but neat nonetheless.
Price seemed fairly cheap for how nice of a stay ($67 w/ taxes). The owner is extremely friendly and will give you all the tips for a good stay in town.

Definitely worth going to, especially while trying to support small businesses.

Charming clean motel.
While the building and many of the fittings are period originals, the rooms are really clean and the beds super comfortable.
Sam is friendly and a fountain of knowledge on Kingman and Route 66.
We've stayed here before and will stay here again.

Understand, I'm giving this five stars for what it is - a vintage Route 66 motel with great charm, not for being the Ritz. Owner is amazing. I made a mistake in my booking, he corrected it with zero fuss. I'm pretty sure he stayed up just to check us in as the last customers of the evening. Room was tidy, with real linens! Clean ones, at that. Bed was quite comfy and we enjoyed our stay. This was a fun place to spend the night and I hope to return with more time on my hands. If you are looking to stay in Kingman, please support the many local businesses in town. You won't regret it.

It’s a small motel with average size rooms. Probably the oldest hotel I’ve ever stayed at without major updates. With that being said it’s one of the coolest, they’ve managed to keep the old “feel”. The owner was super nice with all the information a person could ask for. He loves this motel and the town of Kingsman. The rooms a very clean so let those worries pass you by. The hotel door is an old wood door, you walk in to a clean room with a funny old bathroom like nothing I’ve seen in a hotel. Please don’t waste your money at a chain hotel in this little town. You travel to stay at places like this. I’m loving it. I will be back !!!

True Rte 66 charm! The owners are great people, and felt like family when I checked in. Rooms are old, but very clean. My kids loved the murals, and the themed rooms. Turned a western on tv, and they were loving it! Would stay again.

The owners are very nice and friendly. They greeted us instantly, and are very eager to show us what is around the area. The motel room we had was also spacious (more than the average motel size). There weren't any lights in the shower, but the curtains allowed some light in from the bathroom (the shower is like a hole in the wall). Great visit as it was not too far from Grand Canyon, and we also got a very nice price for the night.

This iconic Route 66 motel is lovingly cared for by the enigmatic Sam and his wife. Sam will welcome you with a wonderful potted history of Kingman and the motel. The rooms are super clean and comfortable. Some would say that there are some rough edges, but my view is that he has worked to give you modern comforts whilst maintaining some character. I was more than comfortable here.

We really loved this place and great priced. It was spotless clean with hardwood floors. The owners is a wealth of knowledge of the area. If you want to explore the area stay here and take the recommendations of the owners. We stayed two nights with a great experience. We will for sure stay here again if ever in the area.

The El Trovatore was amazing! We stayed in the James Dean room. It was perfectly clean. The bed was extremely comfortable, but you might want to bring your own pillows. There are a lot of great photo ops if you are there for a Route 66 road trip. I would love to stay here again.

Cool motel! Lots of history. Owner is incredibly knowledgeable about the towns history and great fun to talk to. Clean room. A/C was on and tv on with classic black and white movie playing when we got into our room. Really fun place to stay. We ate at the Mr. D's dinner just down the street.!!!
