1856 Country Store

Cutest old time store with new and old treats to find inside, a local gift shop type place with a big candy and toy area in back. The owner was very nice and friendly, staff were very happy to be there, a great covered porch to sit and enjoy your treats on after.

One of my favorite Cape Cod stops for a treasure in gifts, souvenirs and hard candy. Great place for the whole family for fun items and great memories. Every shelf is filled with gems and hard-to-find gifts. When you walk in through the doors you step back in time when things were high in value and memorable.

Love it. What a great shop full of all sorts of fun gifts. Spent about 40. Purchased novelty socks, cards, and some candies. Great library a few doors down (use the restroom)

Use to come here as a kid. It was my favorite trip, and to take a day trip back made it even better! They have something for everyone!

We’ve been coming here for 20+ years! If you have kiddos don’t miss the new Penny press (country store, cape cod map, mermaid and shark designs). 4 quarters. They have pennies!

What I appreciate most about the “penny candy store” is that it never gets old. Consistency of product category doesn’t mean same old stuff. There’s always something that’s unique or different in the hand towel section! The addition of grown up size chocolate satisfies the mature candy eater while smaller kids items are now packaged for you by the staff.

This is a lovely, local, relaxed shop that has a nice mixture of pieces and products from local creators, artists, food producers, and the like. There are variations on the typical tourist memorabilia, books and activity books with a local slant. There are various small card games, board games, and toys to help families with younger kids, and of course there is the candy. There's a fun selection of all sorts of candies, gum, and confections in the back, with little baskets so everyone can try and grab favorites.
This store has been there since I was a small child in town, and has been more or less the same through the whole span of my childrens' time growing up.
It is precisely what it looks like, a laid back little shop with some snacks, candy, toys, jewelry and mementos that creates a tiny little fleeting community inside no matter where people are from and no matter if it is your first or hundredth time visiting.
If that's at all interesting to you, definitely worth a stop in.

Great place to find a special little gift or a useful kitchen item, they have a wide variety of nice things. And the "penny candy" is still there, lots of treats in the next room. Been going in there for years, always something new. Great place for stocking staffers too 😉

Wonderful place! My father came here from upstate New York, when he was a child to visit his grandparents who lived in Cape Cod. They would all go visit this place, and he was on the porch eating candy when he heard that the first moon landing just happened. I've visited once also as a child and had a blast, picking out toys and candy. Great place to bring the family together! <3

Awesome experience for all ages. Used to go here when i was a kid when we visited the cape took my two year old daughter this past week and brought back many memories coming here as a kid, Nothing Has Changed! LOVE IT!! Keep it Up!

Lauren has been going to this store at least once for every year she's been alive. It's awesome! Penny candy in the back, adult gifts in the front. A happy place!

First half is eclectic but great stuff. Second half is kid oriented. Have visited here over 15 times and always found something unique.

Great Little country store! Perfect place to stop into and meander around. Very pleasing to the senses, nostalgic and it has loads of gift items. We picked up a neat puzzle and a Chatham light house ornament. Worth a stop in!

A must stop shop on every Cape Cod visit. Souvenirs, penny candy, jewelry, gifts, novelties. Awesome staff. Store is appealing inside. It can be a little tight getting around. But customers are usually observant and it's not an issue. If you have a stroller you will probably do better leaving it the car and carrying your little one. If you require a scooter or walker for mobility it may be a challenge although I know the staff will do everything to accommodate.

Such an unexpected find! Super cute little country store we stumbled into on a walk, and ended up finding some lovely souvenirs for family & ourselves! They also have a candy shop area that would be great for kids.

What a great experience visiting The 1856 Country Store was! The items in the store are beautifully displayed, the employees are all kind and friendly! There was beautiful, relaxing music being played, (very peaceful). In the back of the store is a great kid's section. Also, there's a great variety of nostalgic candy. This is s great place to visit!

Extraordinary ice creams. The sour Cherry sherbet was out of this world. Go before lunch to beat the big afternoon crowds. Really quality creams and great flavor selection. Don’t get just one flavor!

This is a very cute little place - for what it is. This little red General Store is a fixture in the community. It has been open and has remained unchanged for, at least, the past 50 years. I used to go to this place when I was a kid. Now, I take my own kids there.

They have a good selection of Penny Candy (which the kids love), as well as a selection of trinkets which make cute gifts.

Just walking through the doors brings a smile to your face. I've been coming here for over 40 years. The country store has everything! Bring home some memories of Cape Cod. Maybe it's a towel with Centerville written on it. Maybe it's a pair of reading glasses you found you liked. Maybe you want to get yourself some "penny candy" - Which by the way, is the most fun! Maybe you'll find some jewelry that you like here. Or maybe even just a pair of socks! The country store has it all! They even have Christmas ornaments, everything you need to fill your kitchen! And all kinds of fun things! Every time I come to the cape, I will leave there with a small memory of Cape Cod.
