This is an incredible museum of amazing art. We so enjoyed learning about Walter Anderson's interesting life and career and seeing his work up close. I found his art to be not just beautiful but very moving. This collection is a national treasure. I can't wait to go back.

Intriguing gorgeous art and history. Come learn about the life and work of Walter Anderson. He painted, carved, sculpted and built art in extraordinary ways. His style was truly eclectic and interesting. If you are a seasoned art critic, a novice student of art or are just curious about Walter Anderson, you will enjoy this museum. (There are also exhibits of other artist's work) The cost for an adult is $10 and is worth every penny.

This may be a small museum but don't let that deter you from going. It is packed with local history, amazing art, rotating exhibitions, stellar events and a sweet little gift shop.
If you enjoy art that is somewhere between folk art and art nouveau, then this is a must see. I love his cats- they have SO much personality. And the animals are rendered so colorfully. I really enjoyed it.
The current guest exhibition is Martha Kelly's prints (hand carved and hand pressed) and is a must see. Her motifs, like Anderson's, are also nature inspired and she illustrates gulf scenery in her bold, emotional style while using colors evocative of the moody sunsets and sunrises on the coast. The inclusion of her sketchbooks is a nice nod to the educational aspect of the museum in showing the work behind the work of Anderson through his sketches, carved blocks, and experimental pieces.

He had a passion for the beauty in nature that reminds me of Van Gogh.

I don't want to post many pictures, but we took lots and went around again without our phones. This place is inspired and thoughtfully laid out. It is fairly small, but well-sized and big enough to easily spend an hour in. Staff is very helpful and friendly and the art just comes to life in ways we never could have expected. The more you look at his murals, the more you see. They also had other good exhibits, including the room he uses to paint in. Truly a fantastic experience in every way. The gift shop is cute and not too pricey, and the museum is provocative, educational, and relaxing. I would drive for hours to come see this again. Admission is $10 for adults, but we were happy to pay it after walking around. It may not be everyone's personal cup of tea, but even if you aren't a fan of his style this is well worth a visit. We spent two hours there and I would highly, highly recommend going. Make time for it if you can, it's truly stunning.

A must when in Ocean Springs. Walter Anderson was not just a brilliant artist and native son, he also gave so much to the community he lived in and loved. Lots to see on the museum side including original paintings, drawings, lots of ceramics, and some cool things like Walter's bicycle, boat and his beat up hat. In the Ocean Springs Community Center that's attached, you can view an incredible mural, in its entirety, that Walter painted for the city. Be sure to watch the 28 minute documentary on his life, very interesting.

This is a hidden gem for those interested in art and art history. Walter Anderson’s art work is very unique and diverse. His murals in the old community center and his secret room in reflect the creativity and mind of a contemporary Michelangelo. His work is skilled, beautiful, and varied. He was a curious enigma. This is a must see.

If you love art, do not miss this Mississippi dream of a museum. Walter Anderson was a visionary artist who painted the world around him with a personal view that is full of color and joy. In some ways, his artistic journey reminds me of Van Gogh, even though the work is very different stylistically.

Like Van Gogh, his work was not always recognized and he was despondent by the negative view of the locals.

The museum’s presentation is perfect. There is a huge room covered in mural art from floor to ceiling on all 4 walls. There’s also a small room of his, completely painted too, that was moved entirely and attached to the museum.

Great art cannot be well described. So just go and see this place. You won’t be disappointed.

Loved the location of the museum and the place itself. The inside is clean and well-maintained. Front desk workers were so sweet and helpful. I’d recommend watching the video first before exploring the museum. It was pretty small; I wish there was more to see! My favorite parts were Walter’s room they have preserved from his cabin as well as the community center mural. Walter was a fascinating man- just as interesting as his artwork and hopefully an inspiration for those with mental illness. Be aware that just down the road, you can go to Peter Anderson’s pottery shop Shearwater! I’d also recommend picking up Agnes Anderson’s book Approaching the Magic Hour. For those wanting to learn more about his illness and life, this provides a shocking but beautiful picture from his wife, who suffered much for the sake of Walter’s art.

A small but wonderful gem of a museum highlighting the art of Walter Anderson as well as some related/adjacent art. Entrance is very affordable and well worth it.

My college- age daughter and i visited tthis small museum and really enjoyed it. It is dedicated to an amazingly diversely talented local artist. It was very well laid out. There was a variety of mediums represented and the signage was easy to read. There were some interactive features like reflective questions, a book reading area, and an actual room with murals transported from the artists home. It was educational in terms of the artists life and his family but also regarding the different art concepts and mediums. We were able to thoroughly experience it in 1.5 hours. What a gem!
