Dojo japanese restaurant

Food is normally always good, we've had an off night but that hasn't stopped us from going back and the next tine they didn't disappoint. The independent owners children wait tables and cook and they are very nice and attentive! We even miss the one gone off to college now! The salads, miso soups, volcano, to the hibachi is all good! And don't forget the bulgoli is amazing! Just wished for more of the sauce to go on the rice. But awesome family & food!

Wonderful food, service, and decor. Will definitely be back as their sushi rolls are amazing. We walked in and were greeted promptly. Menus are straight forward and very detailed. True deep south sweet tea. Steadily busy but not overly crowded on a Saturday night. Very accessible parking. This restaurant was not noisy at all. The location for this place is central to town. Their crab wonton were super crisp and clean tasting, every ingredient shined, the sauce was sweet and spicy without being to hot.

Teriyaki chicken is amazing! The spring rolls also have lots of flavor, the server was very kind and professional. Couldn’t have asked for a better lunch!

Absolutely love the DoJo! Best sushi around. Family owned and operated. Never had a bad dish.

Fair warning. Sometimes there is a 'smell' from the floor drains. Not the Dojos fault but the landlord of the building.
Almost smells like sewer.

I had the Volcano Roll, amazing... If you like spicy stuff, get it. The Volcano sauce gives it some kick, but not overwhelming. Also had the crab wontons, very light, crispy, and tasty. The dipping sauce for them is awesome. I dipped my other rolls in it until it was gone lol. Then I had the deep fried cheesecake for desert. Wow, it was good. Completely happy with this eating experience. Server was great as well!

Family run/owned and they take care of their customers. Sushi was excellent, though prices have gone up from menu (to be expected nowadays) but still very fair for portions served. Purchased the "Don't be Shellfish (for two)" and with two eating we still had leftovers. Try them out if you like sushi, talk to the owner/family, have a good time... we did!

The Dojo is, by far, the BEST restaurant around!! Komang & Natasha have created a down to earth atmosphere with great service & exceptionally DELICIOUS food!! My favorite dishes are the teriyaki chicken with a side of rice & shrimp sauce.. YUM!!

Wow is all I can say. We live in east TN and visit a lot of different sushi and Japanese restaurants. So when we was heading to North Carolina for a date night and got to trying to find a place to eat......Japanese let alone sushi never crossed my mind as a possibility in Newport. Not anything of quality at least. Let me tell you...... this place rivals the best that I've had in Big Cities at the finest and most expensive restaurants. The quality is worth way more than the price....... how long has it been since you've found that. This place is amazing!!!!! If you get there and they are busy for their 8 tables....... WAIT!!! IT'S WORTH IT!!! Price is very reasonable and everything tasted far beyond my expectations. We will be back. And I have left over because as the owner I assume walked by and said I even looked very full. It a great look to have with a box of leftovers to take home for a snack.

The sushi here is AMAZING!!! I highly recommend the Waitress and Super Volcano Roll!! Very clean and kind staff!!

I’ve lived here my whole life and it’s been great everytime maybe sometime the might be out of some veggies but that’s okay ✅

I have eaten here a few times since I found it. My husband and I absolutely LOVE the sushi. Our son loves the hibachi plates. We have never ever ordered anything that didn't please. The owners and their daughter are amazing and always so friendly. Will go here as often as my wallet allows, haha!

We were on a day trip from NC and stopped here for supper before heading home. It's small and unassuming on the outside but clean inside. My husband got sushi and he said it was great. I shared the hibachi steak plate with my kids and we all loved it. It came with noodles, rice, and mixed veggies along with the steak. Our server was kind and helpful. We will definitely remember this place next time we're in the area!

I wish I could give them more than five stars. Newport honestly hit the jackpot to have authentic amazing sushi! Every bit of the food was fresh and amazing. My husband and I enjoyed the conversation with the owner and a waitress there! Do not let the appearance deter you as the food is phenomenal!!!!

They have the best sushi in a 50 mile radius of me. Their Super Volcano roll is honestly my favorite sushi roll I’ve ever eaten and I’ve had a lot of sushi. I get it to-go at least 3x a month. The owners are so sweet. When I found out I had a gluten intolerance a couple years ago they would let me bring in gluten free teriyaki & soy sauce and make my food with it when I came in to eat.

I love this place! The staff is very friendly and very polite, and helpful even the owner is really nice and always people if their food was good. I like that, it shows that really cares about his customers. The prices are very reasonable and you always get your money's worth. The food is always excellent at Dojo's and hot -n-fresh. The sushi here is AWESOME. It is a family owned and operated business by husband and wife. They will gladly assist you with any type of sushi even if it is not on the menu if they have the ingredients. Came in really not expecting allot, and was fed the best sushi I have had in a long time. You have to try . Great food, people, and quiet location.

My boyfriend and I were on a road trip to South Carolina and found this place through Google restaurants. We stopped and were pleasantly surprised. The sushi was AMAZING, his food was just as good, and the owners were extremely friendly&helpful. Stop and try it...You Won't regret it.

I can't say enough about the food.
The sushi was amazing, sashimi was perfectly cut and very fresh.
Homemade teriyaki sauce on our chicken teriyaki, the veggies that came with the teriyaki chicken were amazing as well.
Family owned and ran restaurant, very friendly, great prices.
I could keep going on about how great this place is, but you get the idea.

First time and we got take out and everything was good! I didn't even know this place was here til I googled for food

The food, staff, and chef were wonderful! They made my daughters' first times eating sushi so fun. They also made a big deal of it being my oldest's 10th birthday. We can't wait to go back!
