Awesome look into the past. What happened at the Bates Mill in the 1800's? Why did little kids do the most dangerous jobs? Also a new section dedicated to the 2023 tragedy in Lewiston. All in my backyard!

I Visited the museum with my Sister Carol Gott.
I Donated these memorial rock's I painted for the 18 lost in the mass shooting in Lewiston.
Our parents used to work here many years ago. This place is going through quite a face lift and it's amazing what's been done. ❤

This is a very cool museum dedicated to the mill history of the Lewiston - Auburn area. The director was very nice and answered every question we had. Examples of weaving looms, yarn cards, cobbling machines, and bricks made in the mills up and down the river. The upstairs area has more exmples of weaving patterns and silk screens used along with other machinery.

One of the most interesting places in Maine. It is inside an old mill. We have been here twice and this is the type of place you can spend hours in looking around. The staff is extremely knowledgeable and the price of admission is very affordable. History buffs must stop here!

This is a perfect place to go to if you homeschool or just want to know about the Bates Mill history. The fee is definitely affordable (I believe at 5 dollars per head, 4 for Seniors and Students) and the staff is very friendly.

I went today but ended up getting there a little too close to closing time so my son and I ended up checking out the 1st floor but what we saw was very interesting and informative. Next time we go, we'll have to check out both floors. ^_^

Highly suggested! The director kept me engaged and was well knowledgable about the history around the Mills. I normally am not one for museums, however constantly engaging me while taking the tour was outstanding.

Future location will be south of Simard-Payne Memorial Park per a sign on that building.

Be sure to walk the “Museum in the Streets© L-A River History Trail” to learn all about the river, mills, and industry of these two towns. Also is it the Androscoggin Historical Society.

In Fish Bone restaurant we learned the Bates Mill name and products live on at Bates Heritage Weavers in Monmouth, Maine.

Incredible! My grandmother retired from the Bates Mill and this provided a fascinating look into all the different tasks involved in making a bedspread and other things.

This is such a unique experience for those people who have spent their entire life in the L-A area or for those just stopping by. You can almost hear the machines still roaring as you learn about the mill history of the area.
