The folks here are literally the best, most kind, wonderful humans. Truly a gem of a place. Hot sauce lines the counter and watching these amazing people work is so fun. The food is what I think to be THE BEST Mexican food I’ve ever had. Even the rice and beans are delicious and have so much flavor! Yolanda behind the counter is the friendliest and most personable woman ever. Her brother Jose is an artist behind the counter serving the tastiest Mexican food. Everyone who works here is so nice. Be sure to follow their Facebook where they post daily specials that are delicious. These guys work so hard as a family to turn out the best food. Such a cool little place.

This is some of the best Mexican food I’ve ever had !

I’ve moved around plenty and spent a few years in California, where there is an abundance of Mexican food. This is easily up there as far as Mexican food goes.

This restaurant can be tricky to find if you don’t know what you’re looking for. It is attached to the mini-mart for the Coast to Coast gas station on the corner.

Inside it’s relatively small, it can probably house 10 people max. It’s equipped with stools on the counter, bar style. It can get busy during peak lunch hours.

The food itself is fantastic. They provide a lot with each order too, especially the nachos.

Pro tip: check their Facebook page for the daily specials, it’s always something different and it will not disappoint.

What a great surprise. First, know that this restaurant is attached to the gas station. Second, know that this is not "gas station" food. The burrito and flautas were made with care and they were amazing. I think I have tried almost every Mexican restaurant in Maine, and this one is in the top of that category. The folks running the shop seemed to genuinely care that we had a good experience. The burrito, I had steak, was rich and earthy. The refried beans were especially good. The flautas had layers of flavor. If you like spicy, try the house red sauce. It is hot. Bottom line, if you are in Lewiston and are looking for some great Mexican food, give this a shot. You won't regret it.

Very small establishment with limited bar style seating to a front-show view of the chefs at their craft. Highly recommended to call ahead of time and order for takeout. Chicken tacos were a little dry; but the beef chimichanga with red sauce was a feast to behold. Definitely some tasty Mexican food in Maine, you get a lot of food for what you pay for. Their chips are delicious too.

Excellent authentic Mexican! Honestly best rice I ever had and I've had alot from all over! Fast ...I just wish place was larger..hard to get on tall stools alcohol would be a plus.. but its definitely crave worthy n once u eat here u won't forget it

Unlike Taco Bell they use meat! Delicious and NO violent diarrhea! The best Mexican cuisine you will ever find at a gas station in Maine fo sho!! 5 stars across the board!

This is one of those little places one passes by all the time without taking notice. Really just because it's location is part of a gas station, but, as other reviews mentioned, this is far from gas station food. It's a small place with sit-at-the-bar style dining (although I think they did have room for 1 or 2 small tables). Anyways, it was a Tuesday and I wanted tacos. I knew OF this place and decided to give it a try. Zero disappointment. One can watch the food being prepared by the, assumingly together couple that owns the place. They had a lot of conversation between them in Spanish which is a treat in this very French-Canadian part of the country. My very basic order of 3 tacos, beans & rice came with extra chips and salsa, and was under $10!!! Not only does El Pochos deliver on taste, but value as well. It's my go-to in the area now 😉

This place is awesome walked in wondering what the hell I was going to get(it's in a gas stations) I did not know ot was in the gas station when it was recommended to me. I ordered 2 meals just to try it out and taste my friends meal everything was amazing. But the burritos was hands down what will make me come back. You need to try it.

My favorite place to get a chicken quesadilla in Maine. Everything I have a had from this restaurant has been amazing and cooked to perfection. Very kind and friendly staff as well. If you are thinking about going YOU HAVE TO!

The best authentic Mexican restaurant in central Maine, certainly the freshest food you will ever have! Everything is made right in front of you by Jose or Yolanda, the brother and sister that own the restaurant. They even offer vegetarian versions of everything on the menu if you request it. Special dishes on Thursdays and Fridays, and the nacho plate is massive - easily enough for two people. Monday through Saturday they are open 11-3 for lunch and 5-8 for dinner, closed Sundays and holidays. Drinks available are bottled Mexican sodas, or you can bring your own from the convenience store next door.

A few friends raved about this place. I decided to give it a try & by far the best taco salad I’ve had in a long time. Delicious & rice & beans mixed in !! I will be a repeat customer.

El Pocho's is the best Mexican food in the L/A area, hands down (and I'm from the Southwest where we don't mess around with our Mexican food). The food is phenomenal (ESPECIALLY the daily specials--I dream about the pork empanadas until I can have them again). I always feel like part of the family when I go there. Shout out to Yolanda for being the bomb (though everyone there is fantastic, truly). This is my favorite restaurant in Lewiston. If you haven't tried it, you're missing out!!

Excellent flavors, large portions, friendly service at a good price. Highly recommend! Do not be concerned about location, it’s in a gas station but manages somehow to pull off everything very well!

Tried this place yesterday on a whim... received a text from a friend that stopped in earlier and really enjoyed it. It just so happened that I was looking to get some lunch somewhere as well!
This place was EXCELLENT. I got the Carnitas Sincronizadas Quesadilla special (to go) and it was fabulous. The price-to-portion ratio was great. Food was really flavorful - good salsa, chips, guacamole, and sauces - The bacon-wrapped pepper and chorizo tasted awesome.
I would totally go back again. The service was friendly and fast.

This was an excellent stop for a bite to eat. Small seating area at the bar. Buying drinks from the attached convenience store was the only odd piece. We will definitely be going back.

Like another reviewer who posted a review, I am from Arizona as well. We just KNOW flavor, spices, and authenticity of Mexican dishes. Margaritas or On the Border is bland and overpriced. This gem, El Pocho's is EXCELLENT. The menu is simple, the prices are affordable, the portions are generous, the flavor will knock you backwards...it's soooo good. Even the Spanish rice had really amazing flavor! The enchiladas were made right and tasted great. So far, the best Mexican food I've had east of the Mississippi River. The service was friendly and although small, the inside was still sufficient for dining in! I'll definitely be back!

Possibly one of the best chimichangas I've ever ate in my life! Not even kidding please stop what you all are doing and order it now it's AMAZING!

We LOVE El Pochos! We tend to get whatever the specials are for the day. Then, we can taste test and share the different dishes. Oh. So. Yummy!! Didn't realize until recently that you can order online through their FB page, Appreciate that option! Only reason for the 3 stars for atmosphere is their dining space is only a bar with @ 5-7 chairs, we always pick up and bring home. Completely worth it!
