In preparation for spending months working outside in Alaska, I had no clue where to start for finding suitable clothing for being out in the elements. Thankfully Wintergreen became my one stop shop for all things winter clothing! I was able to find thoughtfully constructed clothing, made for folks to thrive in very harsh winters. Every piece of clothing from Wintergreen has blown away my expectations of durability and they have so many amazing colors to choose from too! I'm delighted with the clothing I've gotten from Wintergreen and can't recommend them enough! The staff at Wintergreen are incredible and helped me so much in finding the best garments for layering and optimal warmth. The expertise and knowledge of their products is unmatched.

I am a local endurance athlete who is always on the lookout for gear that is versatile and simple enough to keep my pack light and my body protected from the elements. Wintergreen produces high-quality, functional clothing that I am able to use across seasons, from winter endurance ultras and thru-hikes, to all of my multi-day, high mountain adventures. The Windshirt in particular is my favorite piece. The details are intentional and well-thought out and the options for layering are endless, making it a key piece that I never head out on an adventure without. On top of all of this, they consistently do amazing things to support the local community. You're missing out if you haven't checked these guys out yet!

I now own a number of items made by Wintergreen and I am extremely impressed by all of them. Their quality is top notch and I like knowing that I am supporting a local business that really believes in its product. The staff are friendly and very helpful. This is one of my favorite stores to go to when I am in Ely. I recently purchased one of their fleece Anoraks and I think it will be the only winter jacket I wear from this point forward. If it gets really cold I can always wear it over my Hygge.

Had the best experience with this store. My wife and I have purchased more than a dozen items from this store over the years - all have worn well, and my wife loves the constant compliments she gets on her coats and jackets. I purchased a waxed cotton jacket earlier this fall and it is absolutely out of this world! Make sure you ask for Suzanne if you’re shopping in person - she helped me find the perfect coat, as well as some gifts I know my wife will love. She’s super knowledgeable about the products, makes great recommendations based on your preferences and the way you plan to use the gear, and really goes above and beyond to provide a top-shelf customer experience.

I have been dreaming about a Wintergreen anorak for over two decades. I finally purchased one, and OH MY GOD IT'S EVERYTHING I HOPED AND MORE! Incredibly comfortable, perfect warmth, not bulky, and beautiful. If you are at all wondering about this clothing, say YES. Also, customer service is phenomenal and you are working with incredibly lovely human beings at every turn. I followed the process as described to have the coyote ruff put on, they were wonderful to work with, both online and on the phone. Stellar people running a fabulous company of high quality clothing items. The value is incredible, you will be immensely glad for your purchase.

Getting ready for Winter! I work outside in Northern Wisconsin year round and have tried many brands, but nothing compares to Wintergreen Northern Wear! I Love the fit and how it moves with your body. Some of the fleece jackets, I can wear well below zero. I feel really good about buying from a company in the USA. It's not just that I ended up with the best winter coat I've ever had in my life by going Wintergreen, or that my first snow pants ever are totally awesome -- it's also how I ended up with them. Fabulous and patient customer service for a guy relocating from the Midwest who didn't know much about Minnesota winter. They definitely got it right. I won't be back for a coat any time soon but there's lots of other gear in the store that's calling my name. I'll definitely be back!

It was at least 10 years ago, only the second time I had been in Ely--and we walked in the store without knowing anything about Wintergreen.. I ended up buying a pair of double-layer fleece mittens.
I'm STILL wearing them today, and they STILL keep my hands warm while snowblowing or walking in really cold weather. Amazing! Wonderful mitts...

The very best quality gear, by a top notch, ethical, sustainable small town business on the edge of the Boundary Waters! Their years of deep wilderness experience, often in earths most challenging environments has informed their designs. Right now I’m wearing my very cozy Portage top- feels like a hug! I still wear wind pants and an anorak I purchased 20 and 30 years ago - true story. I have only had great experiences and happy trails with Wintergreen gear.

Bought two pieces from Winter Green while visiting Ely. I'm new to Minnesota and knew that I would need a coat to keep me warm, (always cold). I absolutely love the design of the clothing and that it's made locally. Better than hitting up North Face, Patagonia, Scheels or other stores that sell expensive winter gear but it says 'Made in China'. I'd rather give my money to incredibly durable and master crafted gear from local professionals like this little gem of a store I stumbled upon while visiting the International Wolf Center. Thank you again for all of your service and time! It was greatly appreciated. I'll have to come back for the wind shirts and pants. :)

I stopped in 4 places before I found you- I was cold, wet, and looking for something warm that fit. You are the solution to all women who are sick of trying on things made for stick insect people that fall apart on the second wearing. And the things made badly overseas were more expensive than what I found in your store.
I love your products. Well made, designed for women, and WARM. I bought one gorgeous raspberry vest upstairs, and the nice lady directed me downstairs to the bargain room, where I found another vest in blush pink, plus mittens. The next two days of my stay were warm, dry, and enjoyable thanks to you. As I was wearing a long sleeved T shirt with a fleece over it, and the vest fit perfectly over those, I was thrilled, and have been wearing the vests since. And once I realized my purchase supported local artisans in the workroom upstairs, I was even more pleased. Thank you.

I just bought my third fleece anorak. First one my husband took over. So I got a second. Wore it for many years and it’s still going strong but I changed sizes enough that I needed to get one that fit better.If you call there people are super helpful. I love buying something made in the USA by people who care and know winter. Aaaannnd now we have it! Number 3 is as nice as the others. My absolute favorite piece of winter clothing. Soft, warm, beautifully made and comfortable for everything from XC skiing to grocery shopping. Thank you!

1/17/2017 My dog sledding vacation started with a trip to Wintergreen Northern Wear to check out their clothing for my dog sledding vacation. The staff was very helpful. I wanted purchase an Anorake jacket in blue and they were out of my size. Sue Shurke happened be at the store that day and said they would be able to make me a blue one & I would have in a couple of days. Sue personally fitted me for my jacket to make sure it would fit properly. (Being from WI I had a coat to wear for the first couple of days.) I was thrilled. I will always remember this story. I LOVE MY ANORAKE, my hat to match and of course the mittens. I wear it to walk my collies in the WI winters. I get many compliments on the lovely blue color. I received a women's shell anorak as a gift, and it is a wonderful jacket. Soft, comfortable, wind and waterproof. I've worn it in mild conditions and layered in extreme cold. Perfect either way. Very stylish as well. Thanks, Wintergreen.

Purchased a Java Vest recently and am delighted to say the quality of the materials and finishing is superb. I would - and will - be buying products from them in the future due to a high standard of quality and customer service that is a pleasure to find in any product, bonus that its made in the USA by excellent people! Vest fits wonderfully - size Medium for a 6’ 190lb male with a 40” shoulder. Gives a tidy fitted look without compromising flexibility. Excellent for outdoor activities and layering for warmth.
