Sells Park

Get ready to hike some hills! I got a lot of elevation in a fairly short hike (4 miles). We parked at Sells, hiked on Rock house Trail (Yellow blaze) to Strouds Run and back on Athens Trail (Red blaze). Sells itself has picnic tables, a pond, old forested area, some steep climbs to connect to lots of trails. You can hike all day from here.

Sells Park has plenty of trails to hike that connect with trails from other nature preserves. It has a cave, pond and a lookout trail that offers great views of the surrounding areas.

Pretty good park! Very scenic and it's at the end of a neighborhood. Walking can be steep but it's nice overall and a good town park.

This isn't a park in terms of a picnic area and playground, but there are already places for that. There is a pond at the top of the hill if that is your thing. The parking lot is small, and the spaces that are there may be occupied. There is neighborhood street parking if you are comfortable with that.

The real beauty of the park is that it is right in town and connects to a lot of hiking and mountain biking trails. Look up the Athens Trail and Strouds Run network for a nice trail map which covers the park and the connected and much larger Strouds Run state park. Most of the trails are configured as loops and have connectors between them. There are lot of miles here to explore that include mountains, rock formations, streams, and a sizable lake.

Great little park for an easy walk in the woods. Opal (super-mutt) and I enjoyed it thoroughly. There's a rockhouse right off the trail that's worth checking out while you're there!

Nice park, plenty of trails

Sells Park is a very convenient place to getaway within Athens city limits. The trails are accessible and well-maintained. There is a pond very close to the parking lot, which is surrounded by benches for those who want to get a breath of fresh air without actually going on a hike. There are mountain bikers on these trails, which regular hikers need to look out for. Also, parking is limited in the lot, but street parking is available. Great place to walk your dogs!

An unexpected gem hidden in Athens, OH!!! I've been in Athens a lot over the years but have never even heard of this park. Then, the surprise of some awesome hiking trails with great views.

Trail markings are a little chaotic. Just head up the hill until you find a sign. The Rock House trail has some hefty elevation change. It is a pretty trail so close to Athens.
