Took the boy on his first overnight hike/camp. We did the Pine Mountain Loop trail, camping here. We also did a day excursion Abram’s Falls from here. Perfect fall weather.

I lived this hike to campsite 17. It is definitely worth visiting. Very peaceful and quiet.

One of my favorite campsites in the Smokies. There's a serious climb with switchbacks about 1.5 miles in but after that it's easy sailing. Trail follows the river the entire time and you can hear that water from most of the campsites on top of the hill.

I'm surprised Google knows I was there. I did have a data signal briefly. This is a nice spot for a first backpacking trip or to bring your kids. The hike in has a bit of elevation change, 400' or so. The campsite is along a stream like the majority of the Smoky mountains. It does get a lot of use but stays clean due to it's proximity to the Institute.

This site is one of the most well kept spots in the park likely because it is very close to a ranger station. 2 mile hike from parking area makes for a quick setup during the evening time. Solid day hike to Abrams Falls as well as to Hannah Mountain. Great weekend trip!

Plenty of swimming holes around. Busy site. If you're looking for solitude, try other sites.

Your average backcountry site; lots of wide open spaces to pitch a tent or hang a hammock. Unfortunately, the site is a couple hundred feet from the river. If you are coming from Abrams Creek Campground down Cooper Rd Trail, there is a challenging incline soon after the turn onto Little Bottoms Trail.

My group hiked from Rabbit Creek Trail to where Google said campsite 17 was. We got there in the dark (1st problem, that's on us). No campsite to be found. We wandered around for a while and finally found a fire ring but no marker. It was late, we were wet and tired so we camped. In the morning we found the camp marker, almost .3 miles from where Google had it (2nd problem, not on us). Here are the GPS coords 35°36'42.1"N 83°54'17.6"W. I hope this helps someone. There were three established fire rings and two sets of bear cables for food bags.
Google updated to current location 11/9/15. Woo Hoo!

Nothing spectacular about this campsite, no creeks close by. It's just a spot in the woods
