Such an awesome experience! All the facilities were clean, and friendly and helpful. Spent the night, ate in the restaurant, played on the playground, walked to the overlook. In times past, I rode the tram to the lower canyon and rode the air boat to the New River Gorge Bridge. Recommend it for everyone to enjoy.

Beautiful views from the room. Nice facility, central to so much to go see. Hiking is phenomenal. Rooms were clean and balcony view unsurpassed.

Great views from the trails and overlooks. We stayed here for two nights in one of the Tentrr canvas tents down by the lake and it was a great setup—especially for the cost! Kids are already asking when we can come back.

We enjoyed exploring the park and it was a great base camp for exploring New River Gorge National Park.

Had the opportunity to spend a few days here to explore. Stayed at the lodge and it was nice. Maybe not a 5 star lodge, but it was quaint and peaceful, and the restaurant has great food. Plenty of waterfalls close by (Mill Creek and Turkey Creek), or you can take a drive West on 60 to see more. Overall, this is a great place to check out and the scenery is great.

Beautiful overlook, not crowded at all. You can spend 10 minutes here just taking in the view and pictures.

Great views from all the different overlooks and trails we took today. Anstead trail we took today was the first one. Approx 1.75 miles long. Great trail with spectacular views of the fast flowing creeks that you can walk down to with caution in some areas. Definitely a great walk with magnificent sounds and easy as it's cleared. Also, stopped at Hawks Nest Lodge showing the water views from a great height which are the last 2 pictures.

It is very pretty and relaxing. Wish there were better picnicking areas and grills. Playground is small and for smaller children. There is a pool for the hotel guests only, which should be changed to also charge for daily swimmers that visit the small park.

Great view of the valley. The rooms at the hotel looked nice but book up quickly. It’s unfortunate that the gondola service isn’t working any more. That would have been fun, but the jet boats still go.

I do not live far from there. It is a beautiful place. Mainly in the fall when the leaves are their brilliant colors. It's an absolute beauty.
Above there you have the lodge, and you do have a playground, you have the tram, and in the fall after all the leaves have fallen you can see where the old coke ovens used to be used to be a booming place at one point you can see the dam there's cabins on the river it's gorgeous. The picnic area is above the gift shop. Just a place you need to see.

Hawks nest is absolutely beautiful! We only stop by the overlook as we were not staying here but it's definitely worth going to and seeing the overlook. Beautiful view of bridge River mountains valleys and trains!! Plus we saw an actual hawk flying around which was even better and made the experience true to life!

Great hike. Lots of spots where you can get down to the river and many waterfalls. several interesting sites along the way. The Mill Creek MIne entrance was cool to see along with the scrap coal shards scattered around. The cool air coming out of mine vents made a great stopping point to cool off for a bit. Lots of plants, insects, critters, and fungi to identify along the path.

OMG so this was the best time of my life. So we took the cliff side trail and ended up on the fisherman's trail. We had no idea how to get back to where we parked after taking the cliff side trail so we walked to the right only to find the dam and tents we turn around to walk in to a gate where there's a gravel parking lot with again nothing g saying lodge this way which is where we parked at to start the trail. We walk even further and finally see sign that says gsy trail and on the bottom it says to lodge with an arrow. We had no idea it was all up hill. Straight up a mountain. I get light head half way through I have no service nothing cold to drink and my legs start to give out mind you we have done walked 4 miles and it was the edge of dark and we was hoping are vehicles was at the top. So I think more signs need to be placed with reflection tape in the woods for people to see where the parking lots are at.

Beautiful place for exploring and taking pictures. Went during early spring, not crowded at all, but I can only imagine the views out here during fall, as well as the increase in traffic. If you're into photography or just love gorgeous scenery.... this is for you!

We took the jet boat to the river & the lady who attended the booth was a treat. The boat was down she sent us back the next day & it was worth it. A good cooling off ride in the Aug heat. Beautiful sights on waterfront level. Nice people, nice park. Memorable excursion.

This area of Hawks nest as along my way home so I gave in to impulse and stopped to check out the scenic outlook and do a small little hike before the long drive home.

Nice view of the gorge. The butterflies were out and about all over. At the overlook which was pretty and quiet during the morning hours. Crossed the street to do the mile loop through the park. Nothing to spectacular but a nice stroll through the woods. What was great was the park itself. I’m a little jealous as this would be great for a work picnic and if it had an actual play structure it would be perfect for a family reunion or party. They have bathrooms located in what looks like a castle tower. A huge covered picnic shelter with an outdoor fireplace.

All in all it was just a cool picnic area though I was most impressed with the bathrooms. The tower was cool looking and it was a little nippy outside but the bathrooms were warm and cozy which I think was do to the stone.

Wish I’d had more time to spend at Hawk’s Nest! Our room in the lodge was well-appointed and clean, could tell it had been recently updated. We had a beautiful canyon view, which was a pleasant surprise since I hadn’t expected much after reading some other reviews. Ate dinner and breakfast in the Overlook restaurant, and staff for both meals was excellent and service quick; Emily at dinner was exceptionally friendly and helpful, and our dinner was delicious and reasonably priced. The tram is closed for at least this year, but we took a jet boat ride and really enjoyed not only the boat ride, but also the drive down into the canyon to get to the marina. We’d already planned to look into the rail trail, but Jim’s recommendation made it a must, and we were so happy to have taken the hike.

My only complaints were that there could have been a couple more towels in the bathroom (only two bath towels and one hand towel provided for two people), and the breakfast selection was a little sparse. Also, the check-in counter for the hotel was not well-signed and, other than the ADA-accessible window, too high to seem welcoming, although the staff at the desk were themselves welcoming and helpful.

Would absolutely come back and definitely recommend this park to anyone. Great views, comfortable accommodations, fantastic staff, lots of activities, and well-located to New River Gorge National Park without the NPS crowds.
