Mateo’s Cafe & Restaurant

There's a reason this place always looks so busy from the outside! While you may have to wait to be seated depending on what time you come in, the wait is very worth it here at Mateo's. This reminded me of a brighter and more lively version of a small town diner that I grew up going to (that's no longer around sadly), with a more welcoming and friendly staff.
The food here was exceptional! We came here because I wanted a waffle, and the strawberry banana waffle was exactly what I wanted! Super thick and fluffy with a very hearty dose of the toppings, and the syrup served on the side to reduce the level of sogginess. I also got biscuits and gravy on the side, and the gravy was super thick and tasty. The skillets are very generous in size, could easily feed multiple people from one skillet or get several meals out of it, and there are many options for skillets.
There were so many tasty sounding items on the regular menu and the specials menu that we'll for sure be going back to try more. Definitely a place I would take friends and loved ones for a good breakfast/brunch experience!

This place is always busy but dont let that stop you from coming in to check them out! Busy means they are a wonderful place to eat! The staff does an amazing job from the moment you walk in the door to the moment you leave! Very friendly, attentive, and fast! Always checking in to see how your food is, or you need a refill of coffee or water and when people are finished they clean up and clear the tables super fast to get the next customers seated! Now the FOOD...YUM!!! So far we have only been here twice, and both times had breakfast. Everything served was so flavorful, cooked perfectly, comes out fresh, hot and pretty fast! The portions are amazing for the price you pay too! We can't wait to try some other menu items :)

Absolutely the nicest people in town. I come here regularly with my sons and the staff is so friendly to us. I particularly love their eggs Benedict and also their French fries.

I don't think I've ever had better service in a crowded busy breakfast place during prime time e on a weekend. My coffee was never cold. We wanted for nothing. Portion sizes were enormous and also great value for the price point . The homemade hot sauce was outstanding. Our hashbrowns were cooked which is something that seems hard to get these days. We didn't feel rushed and the staff was super friendly. Good coffee too!

I struggled to find breakfast spots that don't make me think I should of or could have done this plate my self at home. BUT I loved this spot for breakfast 😋 Alot of food really well seasoned and fresh. I have to have my Mexican style breakfast and don't get that in this area the Mexican Skillet was AMAZING made me feel like it was home cooking. The ladies were so friendly and attentive. Would definitely be back.

I regularly come to Mateo’s - whether it’s for a girl’s brunch, after church breakfast with the family or just nice breakfast with my boyfriend - we all LOVE it! The food and service is always amazing!

The atmosphere was nice and clean. The staff were very nice and friendly. There were many options on the menu and daily specials. The Mexican skillet was flavorful and the portion was generous. I want to come back to try more.

Both food and service was fantastic! Went on a Sunday morning so slight (20 min) wait but it was worth it.
The Gyro skillet was amazing, our 12 year old also said the pancakes were some of the best he's had.
Will definately be back and would recommend it as a go to breakfast place.

Sunday breakfast with my children. Best to come early for a seat. Offered drinks right away. Additional guests arrived later but we were hassled for it. Tables are a bit close so limited space otherwise food and service were very good.

This place was a nice surprise, service was friendly and quick. We had 4 adults and a toddler. Servings were huge! I got the omelette they had with tomato, bacon, onion, topped with avocado. It came with a side of pancakes and breakfast potatoes. Both were great! I tried my significant others cinnamon French toast and that was awesome too. Definitely on the sweeter side as expected. Good value and flavor. We will stop in again when in the area.

I’m so glad I stopped here for brunch! The food was incredibly good and the portion sizes are much more than other diners around. The staff was very attentive and helpful and the coffee was so good. I can’t wait to go back. ❤

Mateo's is currently my favorite place to eat breakfast or lunch. Their French fries are some of the best in town. I would go even further with that claim, but I want to avoid hyperbole, even if I struggle to think of better fries off-hand. The portions at Mateo's are very generous and the service is impeccable. I am nuts for a good diner and this place is the best. They always seem to have a variety of specials available, as any good restaurant should, but there is clearly a lot of thought put into the food they offer. The only complaint I have is that their parking lot is a bit small. Luckily, I am very local and look forward to walking there often once the weather gets a bit better.

Amazing food and friendly staff. The restaurant is clean and well kept. It has lots of seating and although the menu is small it has a lot to offer. It is primarily a breakfast joint and it does this VERY well. The food got out to us quickly and was delicious. 10/10 will be returning every chance I get.

The owner (Jesus Mateo's) is a great caring individual. Truly professional who knows the hospitality business extremely well. A hard-working individual, managing it all with the help of a wonderful crew that truly cares about how each of the clients are treated. Jesus wants the best service for all. He genuinely cares about his clients and staff.
I strongly recommend his restaurants in both Appleton and in Waupun locations to all who are interested in having great quality breakfast and lunch and comfort food with great menu choices and daily specials with fair reasonable pricing and quantity. Great team ( from the chef and kitchen to hostesses and servers and floor manager) and a fantastic restaurant hands down under Mr. Mateo's management!

Great service even though it was fairly busy for a Tuesday morning. The atmosphere is cozy and the diner itself is small. The food was amazing and we went home with leftovers as the portion sizes were very generous! We will make sure to come back when we are back in Appleton.

Highly recommend! Staff was great, the food was delicious, and the prices were super cheap for the amount of food you get!

Six out of Five stars! They were able to accommodate our larger group for brunch. The food was excellent, the service was prompt and friendly. The portions were extremely generous, and my order was more than I could eat in one sitting. I went home with leftover hash browns and biscuits & gravy. Last time I was at that location it was La Bamba’s!

We had the eggs Benedict which was made exactly how we ordered & was great . The menu had a nice breakfast menu but also had some good lunch options . I saw some delicious food being served & the burgers & onion-rings looked very tempting& will definitely return to try them. Great friendly service too

Stopped based off google reviews, wasn’t disappointed. Had a very enjoyable breakfast. Large portion of food, reasonably priced and tasted very good. Service was great.
