Mount Shasta Mine Loop Trail

Go counter clockwise to ease the elevation gain. Interpretive display at mine is good, but stick to the trail for better mine remnants in the upper portion past the waterfall.

We love this trail.. always on horseback. Beautiful today, the wilf flowers are gorgeous.

Fun 3.5 mile trail. The mine may not be too much to look at now, but the small streams along the way are. As everywhere else in the county, watch for poison oak.

Great trail, but can be deceptive when it comes to distance. A couple runners passed us on the way out. When we were almost 2/3 through, we ran into them heading the opposite direction. They said they had heard the trail was a loop around 3 miles long but after running for over 30 minutes it didn't seem to be heading in the right direction. We pressed on anyway and reached the end of the loop in about a mile. It helps to familiarize yourself with the elevation profile of the hike in advance so you know what you are up against. The NPS has great PDFs of all the Whiskeytown trails and most have the elevation profile listed.

It gets very hot during the day in summer. I suggest if you are going to walk it do it when its cooler. You'll actually enjoy the walk, instead of wishing for air conditioning. I highly suggest looking up some of the historical information about this place before you go.

No shade during HOT 100* aummer days, but nice spot to go into rhe wilderness and not see a single soul. Birds, lizards, not too steep a climb at all.
In a single word: Peaceful

Just bring water & sunblock, and your visit is sure to make you smile and say, "aahhhh".

Love the trail. Perfect incline to flat ratio for jogging. The Fire a while back did a number to it but it is beautiful.

Tourists are completely unaware that there stuff will be stolen by bridge trolls here. Great for locals, death trap for tourists.

Fun trail. Adventure around and you will find some old cans from when the mine was still open.

Beautiful trail, the wildflowers really spring up around the creeks this time of year.

A great trip with the family the hile was fun and it was not that difficult.
