Damsite Historic District Reviews

There is lodging here, but it is part of the larger Damsite Historic District. This area is the place to come if you want to learn about the history of the Elephant Butte Dam and how it was built. There's a museum here, and if you are lucky, Will will be there because he can answer all your questions. That man is a treasure trove of information.
This Historic District is a great place to picnic, walk around and look at Elephant Butte Lake, and just relax in the beautiful New Mexico outdoors. If you want to stay overnight, you can rent cute casitas or a luxurious but reasonably priced room in the lodge. If camping is more your style, you can stay in the RV or do dispersed camping on the beach or above it all on the Winding Road.
So much of this area was improved by the CCC in the 30s and 40s (prior to World War 2), and you can still see the fruits of their labor today.
It's a really interesting area, beautiful and historic. Your trip to Sierra County and Truth or Consequences/Elephant Butte is not complete without a visit here.

Amazing time with my family. We are a military family and we have traveled everywhere. I have to say that this place has such a beautiful view of the water and mountains I have ever seen. Not overcrowded which allows you to relax and enjoy your time. Linda was amazing in helping us book a boat reservation ... she went above and beyond for us. Truly amazing!

Right off the river, we boondocked for 14 days. Had a pavilion thst eas private. Lots of stray cats, tried to catch but they are feral. But will let you pet them for food.
