Shark Pit Brazilian Jiu Jitsu

The is by far the best gym in the area. When we moved down from Wisconsin we tried all the local BJJ gyms and this is easily the best. The kids program is brilliant and growing every week. My wife has even started as they have classes dedicated to women allowing them to feel comfortable in a new environment.

This is long overdue! This academy was awesome. I came to VA to conduct a military training event. These guys opened their door for me and a friend to come get some mat time without blinking an eye. They were so welcoming and so helpful. They taught some pretty good techniques I still use in my own personal game. Seriously, go check these guys out.

I have so many positive things to say about Shark Pit that I don’t even know where to start. My daughter was a meek 1st grader that joined when Shark Pit opened at the Sportsplex. She previously went to another facility, but it was not what she needed. At Shark Pit she found awesome coaches that worked well with the kids, made them feel loved and respected. The kids also learned how to show respect in return, have discipline, and push themselves through obstacles. The confidence my daughter gained is astounding. I also feel more confident as a parent, knowing she is/was learning how to defend herself. While we weren’t able to go to Shark Pit during the pandemic, we are excited to return and go to their new location! Take your kids to Shark Pit, seriously! They are all fantastic people and the coaches are amazing! My now 5th grader can’t wait to train and compete again!

I cannot speak highly enough of Coach Will and Rochel! They are truly exceptional and have a gift for working with children. They exhibit endless patience and an unwavering passion when teaching, which is evident in the remarkable progress they inspire in their students. All the coaches go above and beyond to ensure that each child learns and develops to their full potential. I wholeheartedly recommend them without reservation.

I got a chance to visit Shark Pit while in town for a business trip. An extremely welcoming environment with a community that is passionate about learning their craft. Looking forward to visiting in the future.

I quit Jiu Jitsu for awhile for financial reasons. But when I decided to come back, I tried Shark Pit. It was an immediate difference from what I was used to. Everyone is welcoming. The coaches are super humble and just happy to be there doing BJJ. They do really well in competitions but no one at the gym is out to kill you all the time. I think they weed those people out pretty quick. I look forward to going and almost feel bad when I don’t go. Not because they need me to be there, but because they are genuinely happy when you show up and put the work in. Great place!

Such an amazing group of people. They have an awesome womens program and such a nice facility.

They have showers and changing rooms. Great gear onsite and a massive amount of matspace.

Would recommend for anyone just starting and anyone looking to advance their skills.

My 9yr old daughter & I both train together at Sharkpit! We enjoy the top notch instruction as well as being around a bunch of awesome people. They were super welcoming to us from the very beginning transitioning to them from another school. They are fantastic with the kids and Reignited my daughters love of jujitsu!

One day I decided that I needed a new hobby, and I was considering golf or bowling. Neither of these options included 18th Century Japanese apparel as a condition of participation, and that was a non-starter. After a bit of research, I discovered that jiu jitsu offered the opportunity to wear such apparel nearly every day of the week.

I discovered Shark Pit Jiu Jitsu by doing a search on Google maps, and then decided I was going to try ~5 nearby schools and then pick my favorite. Shark Pit was the second one on my list, and I would never need to try another. Being a stranger to everyone there, in one of the most positionally awkward endeavors that one could take on, the collective group did everything to make me comfortable and feel like part of the family.

The head coach/instructor is a fantastic product. He will casually drop profound statements that apply to both jiu jitsu and life, then smile like it was an accident. He provides excellent and consistent instruction week after week.

It should be noted that one does not need to be a member to consume the freshest jiu jitsu memes, but the Shark Pit Instagram page is a central repository for just that.

Further, the people are excellent. I certainly do not mean to knock the people at any other gym, I’m sure they are great. However, the people at Shark Pit are high-quality humans, and I never regret the time I spend among them.

With all that said, I would be under-representing the school if I didn’t mention the actual Jiu jitsu. The instruction and quality is high class, and whatever the goal may be (competition, fitness, self-defense, etc…), one will find that here.

A great gym with a great group of instructors and people. Everyone is willing to work with you to make you better. There is a wide variety of experience so plenty of partners to roll with and learn from. Wide variety of class times! Both my girls go here as well and the instructors are extremely patient with the kids, while they teach, heck even the head black belt comes and rolls with the kids. They have a free two week trial so there really isn’t any pressure. You won’t be disappointed!

What a find! Shark pit Jiu Jitsu has instruction for every type of learner. From kids, to professional MMA fighters, there is world class instruction. Instructors are supportive, caring, and genuinely interested in coaching the students. Classes provide a comfortable and friendly environment that make this sport truly enjoyable. I can't say enough great things about the experience that my daughter and I have had. Highly recommend!!

Shark Pit has been fantastic. I went in with goals of being more active and losing some weight, and everyone has been super positive and helpful. From coaching in different moves to merely providing a huge amount of support. It feels like a family. You should give it a shot if you’re looking for somewhere to learn a great skill and get more active.

I have cross trained with members of Shark Pit multiple times whether at my school or theirs. I have also been coached by their head instructor in competition. They are always welcoming, friendly, and helpful. The facility is very clean and as an added bonus they have access to a great changing area/locker room.

Shark Pit Jiu Jitsu has a great group of people. The level of grappling is incredible and the instruction is something special. The members like to work hard and have fun. If you were ever interested in BJJ and prefer a lighter environment, where no one takes themself too seriously, but still strives to improve, then come in and fly with the Sharks! And remember if you have children, our Shark Cubs love it here, too!

If you're looking for a place to fulfill all your jiu jitsu hopes and dreams look no further. Shark Pit has the best coaches, the best students, the best atmosphere, it's a perfect place to learn and grow as you jump into the world of grappling martial arts. You wont find a better place to learn and train in the area. 11/10 would recommend!

Loads of fun. I love seeing so many families here. Everyone has been friendly and super helpful. The beginners classes are great and require no prior knowledge of jiu jitsu.

This is the start of something big. Here is where you can train the wonderful life changing sport of Jiu Jitsu as hard or as easy as you want in a friendly environment with some of the best people and coaches you can ever know. I have trained elsewhere with those who are here and can assure you that a great training environment is being formed that will be benficial to both adults and children of any fitness level who choose to participate. Come try a few classes, bring the kids, make some new friends, and you surely will not be dissapointed. Hope to see you there!

What an amazing group of guys & girls! No matter what your reason to try Jiu Jitsu is they offer it all and if you’ve got young children then this is where they need to be! The schedule here is a so accommodating so if you can’t make those evenings class then make the morning classes to get your day started with a lot less stress! While you’re at it you’ll see massive positive changes in your daily life!

A visit to Shark Pit is like going to a family function and seeing all your favorite cousins. The vibe is always warm and welcoming. Joe is an incredible coach and the rest of the teaching staff is top notch. Their meme game is QUALITY. Easily one of my favorite spots for Murder Yoga.

I have been training martial arts for over 15 years and there is not a better place to go. Whether you been training a long time or just starting, this the perfect place. A very friendly atmosphere that is conducive for learning. They have the area's only legitimate black belt instructor. I would give it more stars if it was possible.
