My family and I recently ended up spending the better part of a week with my step father who was unfortunately at the end of his time here on earth. As hard as this situation was for us, the staff (from the doctors to the cleaning staff) went out of there way to make sure that he as well as us were as comfortable as possible. My mother, wife and daughters stayed at the hospital day and night. They even went as far as to bring in not 1 but 3 recliners so that they could try to sleep. I can not thank the staff enough for being so thoughtful and kind to my family in this hard situation. I would also like to say thank you the staff from Blue Ridge Hospice. You guys are amazing with what you do. It really takes a special person to do that type of job. Thank you again.

Sincerely, The family of Paul Steven Chamblin

Having been moved from the VA hospital to Winchester I was overwhelmed with the medical assistance I received while
In there care. The nursing staff on floor 4 423 were amazing. The heart catheterization went well and all the staff members were kind and caring during my stay. Thank

I was in the hospital from Nov 23, 2021 - January 25, 2022 due to covid. The patient care staff were excellent. They were caring, considerate, informative, compassionate and gentle. I was very pleased in view of some of the comments I had heard from friends.
The food wasn't home cooking but it wasn't road kill either. For institutional food it was...ok...

We were on our way back to Connecticut coming from Fishersvile VA. My started having chest pains.
The Holy Spirit spoke to my heart and said if continue to CT, Doris won't be alive when you get home. I stop turned the around and went to Winchester VA. Medical center. The doctors and staff was amazing. Their compassionate and tender care for my wife was simply amazingm
I can't thank them enough. The five days she was there they were professional in their approach for her needs.
I thank you all for saving my wife life.

I had the most wonderful experience I've ever had a hospital! From the moment I walked into the ER, my stay in the observation department, all the testing and imaging
depts, until I walked out was wonderful. Every single person I encountered was so kind and caring! I could not of asked for better care!

So I really don’t want to talk about health care. Yet I am sitting in the ER with my 81 year old father who just had his 3rd heart attack. My parents have been here a few times over the years. It gets hard when they have life threatening illnesses.

So this ER, is filled with angels. Everyone is above and beyond amazing. I only have one father and mother. Yes I know I don’t get to keep them forever. Everyone is doing their best to give me some more time. Thank you all.

Here is what I know and how I feel about Winchester medical center and the ER.

Everyone was so incredibly nice, patient and helpful with my father. I can't thank the whole staff enough for taking such good care of him. The Nutrition Staff was fantastic the food was great but the people who delivered it was just super. You can really tell they love there jobs with all the smiles and niceties. The nurses are the best anywhere without a doubt. And the Doctors just can't be beat.

Pretty happy with the care provided. We came to the ER and ended up admitted to 5F. The ER PA and team were kind and helpful. Bedside manner was great and the care for best interest was felt. Took the time to explain and answer questions and expressed compassion. The guy doing the screening at the door was super fast and helpful to so many people in the waiting room! He seemed to remember every person and what they were there for and updating them. The staff (night and day shift) on 5F south tower we’re all amazing and kind. Helped me find my way out and back in, checked in, intake to outtake they were all incredibly helpful. I am beyond impressed with how organized and kind everyone seemed during the whole process. Rooms were clean, staff at every level were amazing (like people to assist with ordering food if you want*room service*, lady who came in to clean was so nice, just kindness at every level!) Did we wait a while for test results and follow up as inpatient? Yes but it’s a hospital and a Friday/Saturday.
Due to medical history…the ER is a requirement vs urgent care or scheduling an appointment, so it’s we know what comes with being seen in an ER. The overall experience at this hospital and care received was dramatically different than my personal experience at a different hospital during a medical emergency and here they took appropriate caution that if I needed medical attention, I would hope to receive the same quality of care and kindness. 💛

Sunday night, November 6th, I arrived at the emergency room of the Winchester Medical center at 2:30 a.m. The waiting room was extremely busy. After checking in and giving my information, I was told it would be about a 2 1/2 hour wait. They soon called me to take me to a room for an ekg. After waiting in extreme pain, they were able to give me some medication for that pain. At 730, I was taken to I believe exam room #2 where the ER Doctor that was on duty ( I don't remember his name) but he was able to administer a dose of morphine, for which I will be eternally grateful. Shortly after this, surgeon Dr. Lee came in and ordered a cat scan and when he received the results, Dr. Lee came back to see me and took his time and explained to me in detail what was wrong and how they would proceed to take care of my gallbladder. His time and attention to detail put me and my wife totally at ease. We will be forever grateful to Dr. Lee. Approximately at 4:00 pm. Monday afternoon, I was transported to exam room 48 from the emergency room where the staff was nothing short of wonderful. At midnight on Monday I was moved to a room 589 with surgery scheduled for 8:00 a.m. Tuesday morning. I cannot remember the names of all the staff I was fortunate enough to deal with in the emergency room and on the 5th floor, but the entire staff of nurses, aides, assistants and their level of care, and attention to detail, for my care was superb. Tuesday morning at 7:00 a.m they took me. to the OR for the prep of my surgery. I met Dr. Boyd, my surgeon and Dr. Jordan Talley, my Anesthesiologist. Dr. Talley is now my superhero. After explaining to Dr. Talley the issues that I have incurred during previous surgeries with the medication that was administered to me, Dr. Talley was able to come up with a "cocktail" especially for me with no side effects. Thank you Dr. Talley for your attention to detail and making certain this "cocktail" was listed in my records should I ever need surgery in the future. With the expert services of Dr. Boyd, surgery went as planned and my recovery went well. After a short time with a low grade fever, I was discharged. I am truly sorry that I cannot remember the names of all the staff I had interactions with. but hopefully with the time frame and locations that I can remember will help to identify each of the staff members . My sincere thanks to all that I was in contact with. They were all truly amazing, even down to the young man that cleaned my room. Each and everyone of you are the very best.

Everyone was nice and kept me informed as best they could but the sitting and waiting is the worst. I completely understand the situation and that it's not anyone's fault in particular, that's just how it goes, but it is still frustrating to be sitting for so long, then going back to wait some more. If or when you have to go there just be prepared without being anxious, and be grateful the nurses are kind with a smile.

I am so grateful for all of the Emergency Department’s staff working so tirelessly to provide quality care for our community. A very special thanks to Dr. Steven J Bauer, MD in the ER - he is knowledgeable, sensitive and professional. I immediately felt at ease - and I felt confident in his abilities to treat my child after his assessment. Thank you for all you are doing, you are so appreciated!!

Regarding the wait times in the ER that are prompting others to write negative reviews - we are in the midst of a pandemic which logically equates to longer wait times as their department is busier. Furthermore, patients in the ER are prioritized based on need of care. If you’re there with a cold, expect to wait while they attend to any other patients of a higher medical priority. Seeking treatment in an ER is an exercise in humility and tolerance - they are focused on providing critical care, not customer service.

The hospital staff were extremely kind and caring especially when this is our first time coming to this hospital. They treated mom (patient) and I with excellent hospitality and they make sure if we're okay and that if we'd need anything this hospital is prestigious everything

My beautiful grandson was born last week. He is a premie & every single person that had come in contact with him from the cleaning crew to the many doctors, nurses, & specialists in this hospital deserve 10 🌟.
There was only one staff member that said some pretty unnecessary comments that she was not authorized to mouth the words. That's the birth certificate staff lady. She should not be in contact with patients or give any medical advice as she felt it was appropriate for her to do. I am very disappointed in this patient contact personal.
Other than that being said, wonderful hospital, great care, lots of education from nurses as they care for this little guy. I am so pleased & blessed

I have had one of my kids and I recently was admitted and it has been amazing every time. The nurses are very attentive and amazing! When I went to the ER they treated me amazingly. They were great when I gave birth and with my child. I only have good things to say about this hospital.

I am sorry that it appears some have had bad experiences here, looks like mostly at the ER. But I have had multiple surgeries and procedures at WM and have had INCREDIBLE care from nurses and staff. My doctors (orthopedists, OBGYNs, etc) who have done the surgery were all informative afterwards and checked in on rounds. I have nothing but good things to say about the surgical center, the hospital itself. I am fortunate to live close to this hospital. I understand that the ER needs some serious help and I hope that they make some changes to improve the service. I have gone to the ER one time and although there was a long wait, I was still treated with compassion, and the doctors were thorough and spot on for treatment.
