Gonzalez Mexican Restaurant

All my friends had been telling me the best Mexican food around was in Homer. It took me a while but I finally got around to trying it out. This is my third visit and I have to say, “They are correct!”

Gonzalez is on the square in Homer across the street from the courthouse. I arrived right in the middle of lunch and had to drive around the square a couple times to find a parking place.

I was seated quickly but it took a few minutes for them to take my order. The chips and salsa didn’t come out until she brought my sweet tea to the table. The tea was good! I’m a fan of strong tea. I hate weak watered down tea. And a squeeze of lime always makes it better with Mexican food. The chips are thin & crispy. The salsa is a mild red sauce but is much better than most others around that leave you feeling like you just opened a can of stewed tomatoes.

I ordered the chicken chimichanga from the lunch menu and it was overstuffed with seasoned white meat chicken. It was covered in a very nice white cheese dip. The chimi was fantastic and made me forget the sorry ones I’ve had in Minden. It came with sour cream, guacamole, & a pico salad on the side along with rice & beans. The rice and beans brought a solid game to the plate. It is a lot of food for the great lunch prices. I left feeling like I got more than my money’s worth.

This is my third trip back and I may just start coming here and avoiding the Minden Mexican scene. The thirty minute drive is worth it for the quality difference. They are definitely the Mexican food A game in the area.

Update: I tried the street tacos today and they were amazing! I had a carnitas, asada, & a pastor taco and they were all good. Lots of great options here.

The food here is great & the salsa is EXCELENTE! I always order Street Tacos because they're always amazing. And inexpensive! My favorite food in Homer!

Dark walls & dim lights make it a bit hard on the eyes.

Absolutely amazing place to eat! Wasn’t expecting much but was very surprised! Everything was very tasty and the service was excellent! I highly recommend this place! We will be returning!

A hidden gem in Central North Louisiana! This restaurant plus the history of Homer Louisiana is worth the trip. The food is amazing along with the service as well.

My fiancee and I stopped in here on the way to his doctor's appointment. The food was so good. Service was quick and friendly and the prices were great considering how most places have inflated the costs for everything but we both ate for less than $25 and we couldn't even finish our meals before we were both beyond full. Can't wait for his next doctor's appointment so we can stop in there again!!

Everything was clean, the waitstaff was fast and courteous. The food was what you expected when eating Americanized Mexican food. From the time we walked in, til we received our order it took less than 20 minutes. I highly recommend if your ever in the area!

This place is absolutely the best. They have the most tender steak. The staff are friendly and it does not take long to get the food plated. Love it! You will too!

The queso is amazing, the nachos al carbon with steak and grilled chicken is my favorite. And their margaritas are strong and tasty plus well priced.

My fiancee recently introduced me to this place and it is some of the best Mexican food I've had (and ive had a lot of meixcan food in my life!!) The prices are definitely cheaper than any other restaurant I've been to anytime recently. Definitely worth a try.

This was our second visit and it was great. Had the same server, Maryann and was great. She recommends great dishes everytime. We will continue to go back and support are small town businesses as much as we can. Excellent food 10 🌟's !!

Drove through Minden and up to Homer to look at the Christmas Lights, Saturday, December 12, 2020. We had heard about this restaurant so decided to give it a try. It was so good! I had Beef Fajita Nachos, another in my party had the Shredded Chicken Taco Salad, the other ate off the kids menu. Chicken nuggets and fries. The beef on my Nachos were delicious! The chips are thick enough for dipping and not so thin they break. The salsa was very good. A little kick, but not to much heat. The dining partner that had the shredded chicken taco salad said it was very good! My other dining partner enjoyed their Nuggets and Fries as well. The Guacamole was great! Seasoned just right! Our waitress was excellent! The restaurant and restrooms were super clean! I would definitely go back there if I'm in the area. I might would even drive over from Shreveport just to go eat! Give it a try!

Stopped by for the first time while doing business in Homer. The food & service was amazing! Probably one of the best Mexican places I've been to in a while. The place was clean and the meat was actually good, high quality, meat unlike most other places. Will definitely be stopping by again and even making the drive from Minden on occasion.

Any time we come to Homer we always have to stop and eat here. The food is delicious people are nice and friendly

I cannot say enough nice words about Gonzalez Mexican. It is the BEST FOOD anywhere. I eat there 4-5 times per week. Some of the best service I have ever received anywhere. Even when they are extremely busy...you are served quickly. You owe it to yourself to check them out...Please keep frequenting them and keep Homer going on new restaurants. We need them so bad.
