Our guide was/is very knowledgeable on the cave system. He made it fun to listen was cracking jokes. The cave themself are easy to walk well lit walking over the grates was little slippery but they have nice rails to hold on to. The state park itself is also very nice to walk around and enjoy a Saturday with a picnic

We did the scenic tour but REALLY wanted to do the Geology tour. (It was sold out).
Even though it wasn’t our first choice we weren’t disappointed.

We got to see:
a 400billion year old fossil
Florence
Beautiful cave formations and a beautiful turquoise little lake.

Family of 4 (10 yr and 8 yr) all enjoyed the tour very much.

For those that have kids 13 and older and more adventurous, they have the Wild Tour that you have to get suited up and use a flashlight etc.

Excited for when my kids get older to try it.

We had an amazing time learning about the cave. Our guide was very knowledgeable. Bring a jacket and close toe shoes. We did the Lantern tour which was one hour. There are 2 passageways that are very narrow and short but for most of the tour we could stand straight.

What a great and unique park experience! The cave tour was awesome and the historic Forestville landmarks were great too. And the hike up a fairly steep hill was worth it to see the cemetery with some really old dates back to a 1788 birthday. Some of these are hard to find though - gotta use the map because there are no signs or markers on the ground.

I came here for the second time yesterday. We went on the hour long tour and learned about the formation of the cave, a little history about it, and what critters are considered cave-dwellers. Everything was so magnificent! I would love to come back here for the four hour tour next year, where we can explore the caves on our own with lanterns.

An unexpectedly cool state park! We made a day trip of visiting from the twin cities. Scheduled a cave tour for late morning (plan ahead, they do fill up!), picnic lunch near a stream in the park, then hiked the hiking club trail and checked out the historic downtown area. The cave is unconnected from the rest of the park but close by - the walling tour we did was very interesting, the park ranger was knowledgeable and the history of the cave was fascinating for something you dont necessarily expect in minnesota. Check the website for the historic area if you're interested in doing this - there is construction on the bridge connecting the main part of the park to the historic section, and the historic buildings were closed, although you could still walk around them. Hiking trail was well maintained but shared with horse trails, so lots of poop. Signage was occasionally confusing and we ended up in unexpected places twice.

Don't use internet directions to get here. Follow directions to the state park, then follow the road signs to the mystery cave. The tour is an hour and you make a loop through a small portion of the cave, but there is so much to see.

The mystery cave scenic tour was very interesting and our tour guide-Will, was friendly and seemed to know well about everything. The staff was nice as they accommodated us when we reached a little late late following google and Apple Maps so don’t follow them for the exact address (just follow brown signs directing to the Mystery cave).

Always a great place to visit!
As a geologist, I'm incredibly interested in the geologic history of the area and wish the tour would cover even more of that. But for your everyday person, it's way more than enough to learn 👍
A must visit for everyone to learn about geology, hydrology, and cave biology!

Beautiful park in a lovely area. The trails river offer lots to do. This park is a popular haven for family’s. traveling as a single couple it could be a little crowded with children and grandparents. Beaver creek is a smaller more secluded park a little further east I would highly recommend if you wanna avoid the people.
Overall a very lovely state park that should be visited at least once 😌

Such a unique experience! We did the basic cave tour, which is ADA and stroller accessible. Learned a lot and experienced a total dark cave experience for a few seconds, too! Did not get to check out the trails, but we will definitely
be back!

Discovered in 1937, Mystery Cave is the longest cave in Minnesota - spanning over 13 miles underground. It is a network of passages that was dissolved by moving water.

On the tours, you will travel the subterranean paths this water has taken, seeing many of the features that make up Mystery Cave including stalactites, stalagmites, flowstone, fossils, and beautiful underground pools. Parks naturalists lead your tour through various portions of the cave and explain its history, its features, and how it was formed.

I will strongly suggest to nature loving ones to visit the cave.

I will also suggest to adventure loving ones to must visit cave.

On the other hand, the students having interest in Geology and Soil Science have too much to discover and have fun.

We have visited Caves in fall for a day trip. Place is great and kids had a blast. Caves are quite cool so make sure to take something warmer with you. Not much choice in term of food around so pack some lunch with you and enjoy picnic outside.

Bring a jacket! But don't worry if you didn't, they have light jackets you can borrow for the tour. The cave is a cooler temperature, roughly about 48° Fahrenheit. Our tour guide was very informative and patient throughout the series of questions I had. I was amazed to see how the cave was formed and the process behind it.
