Sol Island Bar and Grill

Many years ago I feel in love with this restaurant in its alley location near Court Street. This was my first time to dive at this "new to me" location. I had first enjoyed the smoked pork bowl years ago, and was pleased it was still available on the menu. My spouse ordered the chicken version of the bowl, and our guest ordered a hamburger. All items arrived in a timely manner. The portions were great, as were the temperatures and of course, the flavor. The touch of smoke to the pork brought back memories of that familiar dish, but I tasted the chicken dish of my spouse and enjoyed the lime/citrus flavor in the chicken seasoning. Our guest wouldn't let me take a bite of the hamburger 😉
I think the prices were more than competitive, at right around $11 a dish.
We were there just after the lunch rush on a Friday.
We plan to return.

Love our lil local Sol restaurant! Always great service and food and atmosphere. The fish bowl is my favorite, but everything I've had here has been delicious.

Cubano. What a great find! An easy to miss family owned restaurant and bar in an area overrun with chain restaurants. The place is island 🏝 and Cuban themed throughout with it’s decor. The food is fresh, local and appeared to be made fresh daily. The bar is a small but the drinks were good and a little strong in a good way. I love a scratch made margarita and theirs was great! The place was not very busy the night we were there so we had extremely attentive service but I suspect that the service is usually friendly and prompt. I think my favorite thing was the photos of Hemingway, Havana and the island life.

First time here. It was so good. Very clean and very cool place. Dine or outside. And takeout. Food...awesome.
My husband said this is best burger I have had in a long time. My wrap was just as good. A great vegan choice. Hand cut fries and locally made foods. We love places like this. Will definitely be back. Great service.

The Island Pork bowl and Steak Chimichurri bowl were excellent. Our server, Wes, was fantastic.

The potato ham soup was delicious. The avocado toast was yummy. And the French toast was delicious as well. And for drinks the bloody Mary can put you in the right mindset and the Cuban coffee hits the right buttons. During a separate visit my grandson and I went for tacos and he had a sherley Temple. Yup this is the place for unique yummy eats.

Cute atmosphere. Nice patio. Live music sometimes. They have a good bloody Mary bar and mimosas weekends. The burgers and bowls are tasty. Large appetizers and cocktail menu. For the area, there are very few craft beers. Great price for the value. It's definitely a favorite spot, with more open hours than many other Athens spots.

This place was AWESOME! We live about 2 hours away and visit the Hocking Hills area frequently, tho first time in Athens.
SOL is a must stop when hungry and in the area! Food is delicious! Restaurant is family owned and staffed. Typically LIVE music on Friday nights. Lots of spacious outdoor seating with plenty space between tables. Great place to go eat and feel safe while doing so and feel a bit of normalcy goodness sakes. The tangerine craft beer on tap is phenomenal 🍻

I'm new to the area. Ate here and it was so good I came back the next day to try something else. I've tried 4 entrees now and everything has been flavorful, interesting, and cooked perfectly. Highly recommend this place. Relieved to find there's food this good here. I had serious trouble finding a full menu online, so posting pics of it here (sorry about the glare.)

Interesting and delicious food. Nice atmosphere. The only rum bar in Athens. A large array of fixings on the Bloody Mary bar for weekend brunch. Breakfast/brunch is fantastic, and their burgers are some of the best in Athens.

Service and food were excellent ! In from Columbus visiting. Lunch was amazing.

I have food allergies and it is hard to find a place in Athens that I feel safe eating at and also enjoy. This morning I ordered breakfast to go online and they called me to make sure they understood the extent of my needs. That was very nice. Then I got my food and it was great. It's one of my top 3 places in Athens to go.

Great burger, cooked to temp, tasty bun that didn’t get all messed up by the juices which meant they rested it well. Fries were hard to stop eating and last but not least, the water wasn’t chlorinated which means it actually tasted good

Pretty reliably the best burgers we have found in the area so far. The mushroom swiss burger is our favorite & always delicious!

Very cool local restaurant. Their is signage that says they try to locally source their ingredients when they can. The hand-cut fries were good and the chorizo burger was very interesting. Also tried the fried fish platter and it was delicious. The building has indoor and outdoor seating. The wait staff was very friendly. I enjoyed my experience, would definitely consider eating here again.

Friendly service, chef came out and worked with me to accommodate special dietary needs. Food was excellent. Blackened tilapia had just the right hint of spiciness and my husband ate every single morsel of the island pork bowl. Highly recommend you give it a try!

If you haven’t bitten into an El Jefe Burger at Sol restaurant paired perfectly with a spicy Bloody Mary then you haven’t lived. True to the eclectic heart beat of Athens, Ohio, you’ll be immediately swoon by the laid back atmosphere. Prepare yourself to crave the refreshing cucumber guacamole that will surely keep you coming back for more.

This was our first time here and it started out badly after being seated we weren't asked for drinks or food order for over 10 minutes. We were just about ready to leave when we asked a waitress from another section for service and she graciously offered from there on everything went very well. The food has a Cuban feel which was great and the deep fried avocado was truly different and good. We highly recommend this place for the food and atmosphere the service needs to be looked at but don't let that stop you from checking this place out.
