Great Northern Hotel

Wonderful resort, food was spectacular. Everyone there including the locals were very nice. I loved my room and it looks like a quaint place for intimate weddings.

A great place to come home to and recharge before heading back out on one of the many places to get out on the water. Beds are super comfy. Only concern is the bathtub floor is super slippery, at least in my room (Room 225); bring a shower mat (and don't forget it there like I did!).

A bit expensive but I only drive up from Milwaukee once or twice a year and it's worth it. Besides, not like I'm getting any younger and everything is more expensive nowadays.

Best suite I think they have up there. Employees were so nice. It was a pleasure to stay there and I will absolutely stay there again. Very reasonable rates too.

We stay here for group snowmobile trips. They are doing nice things to update the rooms and facilities. The great room is excellent for hanging out and relaxing at the end of the day.

They are right on the trail so it is great for snowmobilers. It is nice to have the Wolf Den available also. This is a great place for winter fun.

Have been stopping here for many years. Great location right asking the snowmobile/UTV/bike trail with more than enough room for parking. The bar/restaurant is always busy and the food just keeps getting better and better. Haven't stayed in the hotel in a few years, so can't give an honest review of the rooms.

The room's are really clean and big. My only concern is the service in the bar and restaurant was lacking. With 3 bartenders and our glasses sat empty for over an half an hour while they all stood at the end of the bar visiting instead of watching the bar other than that everything was great. Very good food.

We loved this place. They accommodated our dog, had a very spacious room, a bar, restaurant, lake access, the walking/biking path goes past the front and you can walk to the grocery store and downtown Mercer. The staff was very friendly as well. Highly recommended.

My family has been coming to the Great Northern Motel ever since I was little. Before my mom passed from cancer 13 years ago, we took one last vacation as a family and this is the motel we stayed at. So, I may be a little bias in the review but will do my best to portray things accurately. I still remember when they had more taxidermy and a very rustic feel to it. I was super impressed by the modern updates to the common area and from the website, the hotel rooms in general. However, we stayed in one of the original rooms and still had just as much fun. If you'd prefer a more modern feel and possibly a softer bed, definitely request an updated room as the non updates ones have some wear and tear. That was okay with us and we still had just as much fun. In general, I love how spacious our room was and enjoyed having a table and chairs. As always, we enjoyed getting out on Lake San Domingo in a paddle boat and even got to see the famous loons. :) They also have a canoe and a row boat available to use, free of charge. The motel staff was super friendly and made you feel right at home. Anything we needed they helped us get quickly and efficiently. Breakfast included your continental basics such as coffee, juice, milk, cereal, oatmeal, hard boiled eggs, fruit,yogurt, etc. No hot food but that was sufficient for us. They do have a vending machine for snacks and an ice machine. We enjoyed our meals from the Wolf's Den bar and restaurant attached to the motel. I had the pulled pork sandwich and my hubby had a burger and we were both super pleased with the quality and value of the food. They offer a good, standard breakfast menu if you'd prefer something hot for breakfast. They also had outdoor seating with picnic tables/umbrellas which is nice. We did not go in the hot tub but they do have a smaller one near the bar. All in all, we think this is a fun, charming place to stay. If you're looking for something super modern and wanting more amenities, this might not be you're place. But if your looking for a down home, relaxing, northern Wisconsin motel with friendly staff and great view, don't hesitate to book.

Great place! Right on the lake and pet friendly. All staff members were inviting and friendly. Not a luxury hotel, but very nice. Love the outdoorsy/rustic feel! Lake view rooms are updated. Nice huge "Great Room" with TV, stone fireplace, couches, tables/chairs, and board games. Nice walking path in front that we enjoyed late in the evening, with our dog, when it was cooler outside. The bar/grill was cozy and convenient. They even have a really nice hot tub! Will definitely stay here again!

Food is great. Susan the bartender is very nice.

We come every year and always have a great time and lodging yes some of the rooms are outdated but oh well it's clean beds are comfy staff is nice and it's affordable to stay and hit the trails

My family visits Mercer for the annual Loon Day and have been staying at the Great Northern since the early90s. This was our first year back after a 6 year absence and I was a little concerned after reading a number of negative reviews. We were not disappointed with our room, the staff, and the price. If you want the Four Seasons this hotel is not for you. If you want a comfortable room, friendly staff, and a great view in the Northwoods this is for you. You can see the updates the owner is doing and we were happy to have the fridge in our room. Glad I looked past the negative reviews and booked 4 rooms for our family. Thanks for making our return to Loon Day a great time.

Love staying here on our utv trips. Everyone is so friendly and ready to help in any way. Excellent food and drinks. Very quick service. Nice big rooms, comfortable and clean. Perfect for riding the trails.

Rooms.are huge. Their great room overlooks the lake. So beautiful. Bar/restaurant had good.food and drinks. Keto friendly. Hot.day and.great room pretty hot. But they do have fans. Cuztomer.service is stellar. I would definitely stay again. Prices were not to expensive. Clean.

Stayed in the newly redecorated Deluxe Suite for one night. Very well done and decorated like home. In suite hot tub was great! Bed had nice linens and soft rugs were placed throughout the 2 room suite. Single cup Keurig machine for the morning was a great feature but would have been nice to have a Chai Tea option. Wish we had been staying longer then one night. Very reasonable rate for the quality.
