Nex Gen is an incredible school. My son has had the first truly positive school experience as academia has always been a struggle for him. I am astounded at how much he has learned, and how he applies it in his everyday life. I have nothing but wonderful things to say about this school.

My family has been a part of nex+Gen Academy for 6 years. Both of my children have gone through all 4 years. This school is nothing short of amazing. The staff is fantastic, their curriculum is top notch and what they have done for my children has been amazing. It is a Project Based Learning environment.

I've been teaching at nex+Gen for a few years now and can't say enough about how amazing it is! It's full of skilled educators with personal investments in all students' success who have mindsets of always improving in their practice. When the number one comment overheard from teacher to teacher is, "I wish I could take your class!" you know we foster a positive culture of excitement, rigor, high engagement, and collaboration that spreads to our students. Working here continues to push me to redefine my philosophy of teaching to be more student-centered and focus on student ownership of learning and choices.

I love teaching here, and if I had kids of my own would love for them to go here!

Our eldest daughter is graduating 2018/19 (all high school years at Nex+Gen) and our son is a Sophomore - both teens are different people/different students and have excelled in the Nex+Gen Academy environment. I truly believe the project-based learning teaches much more than academics, it is real-life problem solving and team dynamics that will benefit all students for life! I also believe the respectful school culture is one that fosters individual growth, in a mature and supportive environment. Positive celebration of learning from peers AND faculty, our teens had not experienced prior to attending Nex+Gen. I highly recommend this high school.

Three of my siblings, two cousins, and a friend's daughter have gone to this school. The culture and work ethic are great, there are no doors on the classrooms and they have cubbies instead of lockers to promote a trusting atmosphere. They do take theft and cringe very seriously, but every student has to write an essay to be accepted in detailing why they want to go there. The school rents the students laptops for the year and every class teaches through the most up to date computer programs. I highly recommend this school and with I could've gone there!

I work here and my son graduated in 2014. This is a quality school that offers a private education without the high cost. Motivated students who learn to work as teams achieve to high levels. As a graduate of the Albuquerque Academy, I believe it has all the hallmarks of a great school! The facilities are amazing and seem brand new after six years. The focus is Academics, there are not extensive athletic facilities, good health is important. An amazing alternative to the larger schools and a staff that believes in seeing kids do amazing things! Check it out!

My son absolutely loves this school. He is learning to think critically and engage socially in meaningful ways. At 15 he has a clear path toward a career of his choosing that he feels supported in pursuing. The school has offered numerous opportunities for him to grow and develop as a person. We greatly value the instructors and overall philosophy of this school and their ongoing support and encouragement of their students to become contributing adults in their community.

Nex-gen Academy brings new energy and light to the APS district. This charters cool with project based learning focusing on individual attention is something you can't find at most high schools. My son started at nex-Gen the year they opened and I have 3 other students currently attending. I highly recommend this school. Bonus-every student is issued a laptop to use for school.

We had to comment because it is easier to rant about something you dislike as opposed to something you are satisfied with.

We chose Nex Gen based on their use of technology as a learning tool and the use of team/problem based learning. Universities are slowly moving away from the standard lecture and memorize pedagogy whenever they can and many medical schools, including UNM, are heavily invested in this type of model. Thankfully they do not follow the standardized tests guidelines for their curriculum, but seem to use them as a touchstone and then go beyond what those dumbed down requirements are. The students are not graded solely on output and re-gurgitation of facts, they are also graded on teamwork, participation and the effort they put into their projects, real grades, not simply a pat on the back.

Their curriculum spirals, meaning they revisit, reinforce and delve deeper into subjects year after year. They inform you that standardized test scores will be lower the first couple of years but that they will pick up. Our experience matched what they said would happen almost exactly, with lower scores until the end of 10th grade, after which, when daughter met all the state requirements for graduation and excelled above the state average from that point on. One of the worst things you can do to your student if you decide to be a part of Nex Gen is pull them out during their sophomore year. It will appear they are behind their peers at the standard APS schools when in reality they have already been exposed to areas of development that other students will never be exposed to (or tested on).

Is this school for everyone? Simply put, no. What kind of student will thrive at Nex Gen? I do not know. It is a commitment and the difference in learning techniques from what we experienced as teen-agers can be a bit unnerving at times. However, we cannot argue with the results, our daughter was accepted to every college she applied to and was accepted to the honors and leadership program in the college she chose. She is in the first class to experience all four years so I imagine the program has been tightened up and is even better now.

Great school with teachers who truly care about each and every student. My son attended Nex+Gen since 9th grade and graduated last year. Would send him there again if we had to do it all over again.

Our youngest daughter Elizabeth goes here. We were very impressed with NEXGEN when our oldest daughter came here, we love how the facilitators treat each kid as an adult getting ready for the real world. Every time I’ve needed answers the staff gets back to me right away.

Wow, there are some recent negative posts on here that totally miss the mark- in fact, if you're a student at Nex+Gen reading those, you'd wonder if those folks were ever truly connected to the school. I suspect there's some youthful (or maybe competitive) shenanigans at play there, but don't take my word for it-- visit Nex+Gen for yourself and talk to the students who are actually there. Anyone who's a part of that school knows how special it is. Nex+Gen ROCKS!!!

Incoming freshman, our son is thrilled to be in class each day. He says they run the day of classes like a rehearsal for a day at work.
