I wish I could report some good news but again it’s not what you do it’s who you know. Our enforcer seems to be used by many people. I was informed that my neighbor had until end of July to change his lights. August 8th, code enforcer knows he is not obeying the order and yet the lights are still on after giving them 6 months to change over. So the lights have now been on over a year. I think we need an enforcer who is not afraid to enforce.

I wrote a complaint 6 months ago regarding my neighbors illegally installed outside lights which light up the entire North End of Cullaby Lake. 6 months and two complaints later there has been no action taken. The north end of the lake used to be a safe haven for birds and wildlife. The birds and wildlife are gone and soon the nearly extinct little brown bats will be gone as well. The mosquitoes were horrendous this summer so I do believe these lights are causing great damage to the eco system
What I find interesting is a false claim was filed against me saying after 23 years of maintaining my wetlands I was now supposedly filling them. Code enforcement was on my doorstep the next day. I was not filling any wetlands. They were also there the next day a complaint was filed against me for installing a bathouse. Yes, that is correct, I did instal a bat house which I purchased from Amazon. Not sure why they came out on that since it is not illegal. What is illegal is the massive lights shinning in every window of my house. It’s so bright at night I have to wear shades. I am serious. I am also very disappointed that they advised me to hire an attorney to do their job. As you can see by the photos, I am not exaggerating.

Apparently when you write a complaint to the Clatsop County Code Enforcement ALL of your details including email address and a complete copy of the complaint with your address as well is given to the parties you have lodged a complaint against. This is not what I was told when I filed the complaint and it is not what I was told when a complaint was filed against me. For the last 3 days I have heard obscenities being shouted over the fence, threats of getting even, every loud toy they have being reved at my fence and at night they go down to the fence line and shine high luminous flash lights in my windows. Just now she sat out front of my house reving her car then shouting at me out the car window. All this just because I don’t feel like living next to a shopping mall and why I bought land six miles from city limits.
Since my claim was legitimate, and they gave them 6 months, yes, 6 months to comply, I am unsure why my information was shared. I think it was payback for this review since nothing was done until my review was posted and my first complaint was filed over 6 months ago, the second a few weeks ago.
