Peaceful historical small park. It’s a Shame that people over the years think it was there right to carve their names in the brick and now destroyed the brick. Now it needs to be replaced, but how? That brick was from France. Natalie Sumter was a religious woman and came and prayed in that chapel for her family to survive the aftermath of the revolutionary war. Everybody back after the war was dirt poor.
Respect history and don’t be @holes and disrespect it. We are all here because of our nation’s history.
Beautiful place to sit and escape the outside world.
There are no bathrooms. Does have handicap parking.

Great quiet park with shade and history. There are maybe a dozen or two dozen gravestones from the Sumter family. There is a bit of woods right next to it but no walking trail. A small open area for a picnic (bring a blanket because there aren't tables) or kids to run around.

No playground, no restroom, no tables but 1 bench.

Beautiful tribute to a very important man in South Carolina and United States history. Anyone interested in history will enjoy visiting this powerful cemetery. Places like this give me the "tingles" just knowing the importance to the history of America.

My family Catawba Chief General New River & Sally New River [ Scott ] have special ties to General Thomas Sumter, We were South Carolina militia guerrilla forces " Catawba Rangers " The General was our commanding officer. We were the only Native American tribe to help the Americans years later we dug clay and infrequently visited General Thomas Sumter in Stateburg South Carolina. We highly respect the man for some time I was not able to gain access, I have been visiting the memorial for years and I was pleasantly surprised and happy to see that the memorial had been shown the respect that it deserved. Well worth a visit to show respect to a man that was a freedom fighter for American colonist and the State of South Carolina. Highly recommended.

This is a small memorial to one of the greatest Revolutionary Generals. If you are expecting to see Hope House Plantation note it burned down in the 1930's. Even without the house it is a small peaceful place to listen to local birds. I'd suggest doing most of your research on Thomas Sumter and Hope House Plantation prior to visiting as there is little information on the grounds as it just skims the surface of his life and if I remember doesn't mention much about his son.

Thomas Sumter Jr. and his wife are buried here as well and their history is also very interesting when you go researching it.

I like to pick up lunch and eat it at this site occasionally. It is very well kept up and peaceful. This is a great memorial to a man that served America. There is parking for a few vehicles. There are signs instructing drivers to this location. Don't miss the historic markers that tell about Gen. Sumter that are on the roads along the way.

Really small historical park/gravesite.
Looks like someone does some upkeep as there is always new flags, sometimes flowers, and even gets a Christmas wreath. Lots of squirrels. When alone the sounds of the leaves can be a bit creepy. There's a few benches. The driveway to the park starts at the end of a dead end street and has very little parking. It's in a residential area and there are signs leading up to it. Definitely a must visit if you like history or just want to see something new.

Small park with monument and grave sites for General Sumter and several relatives in a well kept, woodland setting. A quick stop, and worth the time to read about a significant forefather of our country and beautiful state of SC.

Great way to see how the great names of SC families intertwined. If you don't believe that T. Sumter had time to influence the growth of SC...think about it ..he was 98 years when he died
