I had an infected tooth, was in a lot of pain working 3rd shift. Even with Covid going on they got me the same day and got me medicine and had it pulled within 48 hrs. Very professional and good feeling environment.

I was recently seen at Dr. Trent’s office for a cleaning and Exam. At my visit, I did not disclose to any employees that I was a registered dental hygienist. Unfortunately, the office that I currently work at does not have ample time for staff to be seen. Therefore, I chose to be seen by Dr. Trent because he had wonderful reviews and took my insurance. Though the staff was friendly, there were several occurrences that made my time uncomfortable. First, While taking my Panorex radiograph, the dental hygienist grabbed my lip without wearing gloves. Though I was disturbed, I believed it to be an honest mistake and didn’t say anything. However, the visit only seemed to get worse. While cleaning my teeth, the hygienist told me I had “several cavities between my teeth.” This was shocking to me that this statement came out of her mouth. Not only because I have never had a cavity in my life, but because diagnosing caries is not in a dental hygienists scope of practice. Legally, a hygienist is not allowed to say any patient has a cavity without the dentist confirmation. She then proceeded to teach me how to floss- which I do everyday, multiple times. I kept my mouth shut, as I do not like confrontation. I assumed that the dentist would deny these areas were decay during his exam. However, the only “exam“ I received was the dentist blowing air in my mouth. No mirror, No explorer, No radiograph examination. The doctor simply said “you need to get those filled.” I did not schedule an appointment for restorations. I wanted confirmation from another dentist. Thankfully my supervising dentist at my practice examined my radiographs for me. He confirmed that there was no interproximal decay present. The next day, I contacted my previous dentist to do an oral examination. That dentist confirmed that no decay was present. Though I understand dentists may not agree on all areas of demineralization/calcification, after having the radiographs reviewed by several dental professionals, I feel confident that there was NO visible decay on my teeth. Personally, I do not ever want to have a tooth’s structure permanently altered with no evidence of decay. Once a filling is placed, you cannot take it back, and it requires years of upkeep. This is a general statement for those looking for a dentist- beware of those taking advantage of people’s lack of dental knowledge.
