I have only been coming here for 30 years so I think it's time for a review! Doug's is the definitive upstate NY fish fry. Delicious food and I cannot overemphasize that they prepare your order when you order it, resulting in fresh, hot food everytime you come! Doug's seafood sourcing methods are well known so I won't dwell on it except to say that it works! Great fish fries and slaw, as the lord intended it. Also, don't sleep on the Tuesday clams!

Not only has this location been a staple in Cortland for their delicious food for many years, they are also an amazing team who supports their local community as well! I cannot say enough positive things about Doug's but I'd like to try! Recommended to go in and see for yourself!

I found this place while passing through the town. The fish and chips, was finger licking good. Everything is made fresh and served hot. They also provide great tasting sauces and Cole slaw on the side. Definitely recommended. The wall decors was off the hook "They were amazing!!! They were very fast with the service and super friendly. My photos will tell you the rest.

Stopped in on Easter on our drive home from Niagara Falls. So glad they were open. Service was fast and friendly. We got the fish fry dinner and the bang bang shrimp. The shrimp was plump and still crispy after being tossed in the bang bang sauce. The fish was perfectly fried and a huge portion! Fries needed some salt but were still great, as was the slaw and the tartar sauce. Hope to visit the original location some day!

I ordered the lunch fish sandwich with fries and a cup of clam chowder and a soda. The fish was fried with fresh oil which you can see by the golden color. The tartar sauce was delicious. The restaurant was clean inside and outdoors. The building gives a seaside atmosphere.
My cashier was new and learning the details of exactly how many oz come in with different meals. All of his coworkers were supportive and encouraging. That was great to see. Happy people making quality, authentic food. Delicious all around!

Doug's Fish, with it original restaurant in Skaneateles, New York, expanded several years ago. This location seems to be the only expansion that continues to this day. I am glad that it has. Over the years I have eaten here by myself and with my family, whenever traveling on the back side of Cortland, New York along route 281.

What I love about Doug's is that they have achieve the perfect balance between having a crispy crust while maintaining a light and fluffy fish meat inside. Plus, the New England like clam chowder is so unique, it is in a class of its own outside the classification of being a New England chowder

Though this place originally open many years ago, they have modernized the order taking, so even though each order is made individually, the wait is short.

So if you are driving the back side of Cortland down route 281, stop here for a treat that you will appreciate.

Found this place while passing through the town. They excellent fish and chips, sandwiches and po-boys. Everything is made fresh and served hot. They also provide great tasting sauces and Cole slaw on the side. Staff was very nice as as well. They keep the place clean. Always better to eat at these hidden gems vs chain restaurants. Definetly recommended.

Been coming here for years and will unit I pass away. Hopefully right after eating a great meal at Doug's. LOL(For atmosphere you do have to to visit the OG in Skaneateles It's awesome. But this one halves the distance from my house in Endicott NY and is just as excellent.

I hadnt been out to Dougs since it first opened in Cortland. Although this time it was the middle of winter so there was a lot fewer people there, it was still a great atmosphere and fun dining expierience. The food was great! The only negative I would say is the prices. I know how the economy is but nearly 60 bucks for 2 people to dine on a piece of fish some onion rings and a milkshake is a bit steep i would think, but, definately a nice treat once in a while.

Best fish fry in central/ upstate New York. Delicious tender fish battered and fried in a crispy and delicate layer of breading. Mac is very good as well. Homemade products, good quality, good atmosphere, friendly workers. Highly recommend.

Totally awesome doesn't even begin to describe how excellent the food and service are there. I walked in and put my order, and within 5 minutes, it was ready to go. It is a venue that I will eat at every time I go to Cortland

Our favorite lunch spot when traveling upstate. Not near the ocean, but incredibly fresh seafood prepared perfectly.
Broiled or fried, equally delicious.

If you like fish and chips, stop here. The food is excellent and the portions are huge.

There's no table service. You place your order at the counter and they call you up by name when it's done. They offer a wide selection of condiments including malt vinegar for the fries and homemade tartar sauce.

The fish is nice and crispy, and the fries are about the type and quality of what you'd get at Five Guys on a good day, which is a compliment. The place seemed to be clean and well maintained.

Definitely going back to try the fried chicken and calimari (Thursdays only, and get in early because they were out when I tried to get them last time.) They also serve ice cream, but you probably won't be hungry enough to get it.

Their prices are pretty high, but honestly you could split a fish dinner between two people and still be reasonably full.

We ordered a fried clam dinner and a fish sandwich for takeaway. Both were delicious (be sure to grab any tartar or cocktail sauce before you leave...it does not come in the bag by default). The fish sandwiches are huge! (That is...there is an enormous piece of fried fish on a normal sized bun. I was quite satisfied with just that for dinner.)
The interior has plenty of seating and is brightly lit and pleasantly decorated. Everything seemed clean and tidy when we were there. The staff was friendly. The menu was somewhat limited (which I consider a good thing!) to several kinds of fried seafood as well as fried chicken, which I have not yet tried.
It was a little pricier than I expected but if that is the cost of the quality food and pleasant atmosphere, it is worth the extra few dollars.

Food was amazing. Fries and onion rings are all hand breaded well worth 45 dollars for 2 fish dinners definitely will be going again

Awesome food always. can't go wrong with anything on the menu! Been going here forever and it is the best fish fry you can have! Chicken fingers are nothing to slouch at either. Custard is stellar too!
