Prairie Island Campground

We have camped at Prairie Island for three years now over the Boats and Bluegrass music festival in late September. The campground is always clean and well kept, with an organized check-in, in spite of the large numbers of campers. The riverside location is beautiful. We especially appreciated management assistance this year, when we discovered our car battery was dead. They had a battery pack for us to jump it back to life, free of any charge! We will always come back for the festival, but are so thankful for such a wonderful campground, amenities, and staff!

Our favorite campground! Nice sites with good amount of space. Upkeep is good. There's a nice beach with many options for rentals of things like kayaks, paddle boards, canoes, etc. Friendly staff! It's nice to be able to dock our boat there. We camp here a couple times a year.

The people who run this place are so kind, the campground is clean and well taken care of. The tiny houses to rent are perfect and right by the river. We love it here!

Close enough to town to have all supplies, while distant enough to get you out there. It was a fun place to stay. Family atmosphere.

They are a vary clean and friendly people and accommodating right on the river so you can do a lot of great bank fishing, I will go here again for sure 😀 👍

Prairie Island exceeded our expectations, the location was perfect. The beach is very nice, the showers and bathrooms are clean. The events are a great bonus. We’ll be back next year!

We arrived on the Monday before Labor Day and we were only there until Friday. I got ill and had to go to the emergency room the day we arrived, then to the hospital. The camp ground was all booked up for the weekend my partner was not sure what she was going to do if I was not out by Thursday. The owners found her a spot if it would come t that. I was told that i could not drive for 4 day's when i was released from the hospital on Thursday. Well the campground called us to let us know that the people that were booked at our site canceled ans we could stay over the weekend and the next week.

I've never camped here.. So, I can't speak for that accommodation. Although, I search for rocks along the shore and we metel detect around the shire line and trails.. The location is beautiful and the property is always kept up.

Very beautiful campground by the river and by the wonderful town of Winona. You can rent and kayak here on the driftless water. We came on the first weekend of July, the campground organized music concerts on both Saturday and Sunday nights, also some family activities, they were fantastic, entertaining and enjoyable. The bathroom and shower room were clean. We will come again.

Location, staff and facilities... All perfect! It would be difficult to find a better destination. The camp store employees were top-notch. The shower house was spotless. The grounds were meticulously maintained. I would return... And I will recommend to anyone!

For a large campground I was very impressed. Very dog friendly, clean bathrooms, access to the water for fishing, kayaking, swimming, delivered firewood, and friendly staff. I feel bad that they've lost soo many trees for shade.
Side note: bring a grate for over the campfire if you plan to use it for cooking.

We have stayed here several times, it's a clean facility right on the river. A beautiful place to explore the bluff country of Winona. If you are looking for a campsite in the area this is the place to be w/ their simple easy online booking.

There are more campgrounds south of the city as well.

Very helpful staff. They even bring the wood right to your fire pit. We tent camped and chose a site with lots of trees and shade. Very family friendly with little kids.

Its such a beautiful campground with great amenities. The people who run it are amazing too.

Prairie Island Campground is the nicest campground we have ever stayed at. The grounds are absolutely beautiful and the owners have a community garden on site. There's a stage for live music, bikes and boats to use, the tiny houses they rent out are really cool and we have enjoyed camping in our vintage camper here. They have a disc golf course on site, there's a dog park across the street within walking distance and the campground is right on the Mississippi River. The owners are amazing people, what's not to love? I highly recommend staying at Prairie Island and look forward to our return.

Our first camp away from WI State Parks. It was a great experience, especially having water readily hooked up. Sites are fairly spaced, but that didn't matter since it was quiet as a church mouse the entire weekend. Great access to the river and Winona was awesome to walk around (plus all the cliffs and parks).

This campsite was great!! We did some canoeing on the river that weekend. There was live music and snacks in the evening. We loved the community garden they are developing! Great idea! Overall a fun and relaxing weekend getaway. You can't beat the bluff views in Winona.

The small homes are a paradise! They treated us like royalty. So much peace and quiet. Stayed a whole week had no problems at all! Would recommend to any small family for a peaceful time. Plenty to do. They have tons of stuff to rent. Awesome sunsets and river front. You will not regret it. The hospitality is next level everyone so friendly. Truly a gem on Mississippi River.
