Calypso Mama Caribbean Cafe

Drove an hour and a half from Raleigh on horrid hwy 70 traffic to come here and it was completely worth it. This is the best Trini food anywhere near Raleigh hands down. Definitely call in an order beforehand because they were out of roti when we arrived but we'll be back for it another day.

The curry goat and curry shrimp plates were both delicious. Definitely recommend getting the curry potatoes.

Goat was spicy for me but so tasty that I had to savor a few more bites before promising it to my brother! 😋 Yummy! The owner was friendly and explained extremely politely that the paratha has to be ordered in advance as it's not in high demand. Totally understand! The dhalpurie was not greasy and was tasty. I was informed in advance (on cashing) that there'd be a wait. There were seats available and air conditioning; it was not a problem. This is what you do most times you go to a restaurant. While waiting I saw patrons come in and collected their orders. It is clear there's also an option to order ahead. I see reviews complaining about the cost but it's comparative to most Caribbean spots and in NY there are many restaurants and these are the prices! Considering in Greensboro that it might be difficult to get quality produce I think they're doing really good. This is a small business but great quality. I live in Raleigh and I'll definitely be back!

The food here is phenomenal! I've been hunting for a Caribbean restaurant since I moved from FL & this place takes the crown for best Caribbean in Greensboro. You absolutely will not go wrong ordering anything from their menu.

As soon as you open your car door, you know.. it's going to be good! The smell of delicious food awaits inside!

Walking into Calypso Mama, you are welcomed by a very clean dining room with kid friendly music playing. The colors are vibrant and really appealing and coordinated. The stereo keeps the mood alive as well.

After ordering, you can help yourself to the drink cooler and wait for the meal to come out. There is a selection of fruity drinks not often seen in normal venues of America. These are the good stuff of drinks.

The food is cooked fresh and made to order. When it comes out, it's surprisingly large portion and oh-so delicious!!

To judge the made to order freshness, you'll either need to take my word for it or better, try it yourself.

Good food and service goes a loooong way! I discovered this place via Google and I will never go to another Caribbean location. My husband placed a few orders that were going to take a minute to be freshly prepared. As we were waiting in our car, a gentleman came out and brought me a sample of the mac and cheese!! Being 7 months pregnant I was already hungry and salavating from the photos alone but by the way I was treated and how hot and delicious the Mac and cheese was, they’ve created a loyal customer! Please give this place a try! You won’t be disappointed! ❤

Thanks to a recommendation from a new friend Grant and I ate at Calypso Mama and enjoyed it very much! Both the curry chicken roti and goat roti were delicious. Grant also gave the banana soda a thumbs up. We'll definitely be back with Hubs.

I was born and raised in Trinidad so I grew up eating this food and can make some of it myself. This place was great. It did not disappoint. The roti was amazing, in the top 5 I ever had in my life. The curry goat and curry chicken was pretty good.

Authentically made West Indian food is hard to come by. But this restaurant is the "real deal." The food here is excellent! You will be glad that you are here!

The people who run this place are so sweet and kind. They are always professional. The place is small but always clean and tidy. Their food is also good. The only feedback I have is that someone is very heavy handed with the spice oil or peppers. If they could dial it back some in the rice and cabbage, it would be perfect. We all love spice but this is not a normal amount of spice especially for sides dishes. Either way my greedy butt will still support them. They deserve it and we need good businesses within our communities. Go visit and show some love.

My client wanted to bring me lunch. She came in and said she found a restaurant. I got the oxtails with rice and peas and when I tell you fall off the bone good, those ox tails did something to me whoever is in the kitchen, put her foot hands and knees in that pot

I had the peppa shrimp with rice and cabbage and let me tell y’all it was AMAZING!!!! They have 2 options for spice for the shrimp either mild or spicy but let me tell you guys mild was the most spicy mild I’ve had! Lol so if you don’t want super spicy don’t get spicy. The mild is enough spice for me. Overall it was great! I’ll be back very soon

Wasn’t planning on eating lunch here but so glad we did. The staff (who I think are also the owners) were really helpful and gave plenty of pointers for how to best enjoy the food (ask for the spicy sauce). Jerk Chicken and goat curry were awesome. We are gonna come back for the fish!

Attended a NCA&T Football game and was looking for some authentic Carribean cuisine. This establishment was conveniently minutes away. Staff was very nice. It is a takeout location but we asked if we could occupy a seat and table not designated for guest ( it was busy with no seats available ) and they graciously let us sit at a table. Oxtails were absolutely awesome; Tender, flavorful and meaty. Steamed cabbage was great as was their peas and rice. We requested Roti and they were out. The cashier ( who was sweet ) notified the chef and asked if a special order for. Once we notified them we were visiting and lived a hour and a half away, they accomodated us.

THIS is the kind of food and service that is worthy of 5 stars. Will highly recommend this establishment. Keep preparing authentic food and offering top notch service and you will continue to be successful. See you in a few weeks.

Everything on the menu taste great! The Peppa Shrimp is my new favorite. May wanna order ahead of time, there's always a line whenever I'm there but that's how you know the food is good!
