If i ever had to build a killer robot, this would be where i would go for parts. Generators, fan engines, army backpacks and sheets of waterproof vinyl- you never know what insane treasures you'll find!
Its best to come here with no specific idea of what you want in mind, as what you come home with might be nothing you expected.

This place is a gem! If you have some time to look around... And I mean ceiling to floor, you can find so much in the way of tools, accessories, and just the random. My favorite part of places such as this is the relics of hardware stores past, I love to look at marketing and packaging through the years. While it holds onto old stock, it carries new items to add to your tool collection as well.
I simply bought a matching set of cabinet pulls that have probably had the same price for decades, but more important to me, is that they were unique, made in the USA, and made of cast metal. Way more fitting to the old house they will be installed in.
It's like part thrift store, part military surplus, part hardware store. For the hands on customer that enjoys to build something from nothing, enjoy looking through old parts meticulously removed from repurposed and recycled items of all kinds! Brings you to a time of reusing still functional equipment, before the planned obsolescence and throw away culture of the now.
Chaotically organized to the job, or to the part, you'll find a whole section of plumbing, welding, carpentry, automotive, upholstery. And that's just to name a few. A room I really enjoyed was nothing but wheels and castors removed from the smallest utility cart to larger more heavier duty ones, and maybe even removed from old shopping carts.
I really hope this place stays for even more generations to come!

These guys are fantastic and I am going to miss the store when it's packed up and gone. 75 years is a long time to have a small business running and I think Surplus Tools did a great job over the decades. People should absolutely come in and grab all the cool tools and parts while they can!

This store is the coolest store of all time you can get lost in the store an all of the awesome stuff you can get its hard to describe but if it is a odd tool or a old whatever you need to fix they have it. The store is struggle with the rise of Property taxes and could be closing their doors, this is a 6 generation of family owned and the closing of this place would be a bummer so I AM GOING TO GIVE THIS BUSINESS THE # 1 FAMILY RETAIL AN MOST UNIQUE EXPERIENCE THEY GET THE POTTER'S ALL TIME POWER PICK #1ST,
PICK IN POTTER'S POWER PICK HALL OF FAME. Go an try not to spend less then 20$ you can't do it.

I thought I was in a museum and they were so nice. They had a perfect fabric for my dining room chairs. Too bad it will have to close soon. It's been 75 years service to the Denver area. I think it should be a Historical site and continue to serve our area. Check it out before it goes away!!!!

Been wanting to go here for years, but the timing never worked out. Finally had a day where I was nearby and they were open - had to do it! It was exactly what I thought it would be and more - some very useful items, some not so useful but overall a fun experience exploring the place. If you need a widget, they probably have the one you need ;-)

There is so many cool things here. It's so relaxing to just walk around and find tools and other things a guy could use. Prices are super great.

This store is one of a kind for sure. As long as you are much for a super tidey and sterile enviroment this store resembles Grandpa's workshop, more less than a home depot, from assortments of screws, nuts and bolts, to varied plexiglass, to different gages of paracord and chain link. One of my favorite and most reliable stores. They always have just what I'm looking for and then some. Family owned for 72 years, historically one of the best.

Love this place been going here since wow when the organ grinder was open just west of this store if you know what the organ grinder was then you been in Colorado for a while or either born here. It's sad to hear this store is closing you literally can find the biggest or smallest tool here in this store.

I've scored some great tools, hardware, wire, and electronic parts at this place over the years. They have tools that you won't find at the big box stores. Their inventory fluctuates, so it's wise to visit every few months.

Edit 9/10/2021 - I found some deals on NOS USA made hand tools today. Much nicer than the imported POS that you get from Amazon and big box stores. Among today's finds was a 12" machinist's rule made by the Union Tool Co. of Orange, MA - pristine condition.

This place is pretty incredible. They definitely have everything you could possibly need for any repair job... The tricky part is finding it. There's zero organization but that's part of the fun. You never know what you'll stumble across looking for what you need. There is no way to spend less than two hours in there.

Great place to dig around for scrap tools and random parts. Very inexpensive, but not very organized... Prepare to spend some time wandering around to find what you're looking for. Classic Denver spot

Prices are unbelievable!!! Tons of tools new and used. They have everything there. I love that they don't hover around while I am looking. I spent at least an hour and half, if not more there, just looking thru everything.

Great spot to get your misc. nuts, bolts, and materials. They do not carry much for metric though which is mostly what I came looking for, but they’re great for all the imperial stuff. Very friendly also.

This hardware store has classic, vintage, antics with a large variety of specialty tools. It is a family owned store that is a historic atmosphere with old school tools and lots of you wont find at home depo
