HOME STRUCTURE DRAWINGS PROVIDED - we wanted to get a copy of original home structure drawings....construction was 15 years ago so drawings were a bit of a challenge to find. Staff took the time to do a thorough search and provided electronic copies (e-mail) free of charge.

Attitudes were positive and customer friendly. Much appreciated.

Quick over the counter service. Very helpful and easy to obtain the building permit (for a small remodel).

I didn't get a call back on a permit question so I went to their office. It looked like they may be understaffed but the people behind the desk were very helpful, professional, and polite.

Although they're very helpful, you need to have some building experience to make things a little easier for yourself. Although they're good at answering questions you better make sure you think things through thoroughly so you don't have issues.

Plan review and inspection staff is competent and friendly, but the office staff I always end up seeing at the cashier step of the process has been unprofessional and condescending the last several trips over there.

The incorrect application of commonly understood regulations has cost my clients time and money to satisfy a power trip of a cashier. This is unreasonable and not what public service should be.

Again, I have nothing but positive feedback for the review and inspection staff. However, the customer contact role needs vast improvement in knowledge and professionalism.

It amazes me how you can get a city job and be extremely rude and unprofessional. Kids that work have better mannerism and professionalism than these people

I've pulled three permits as a homeowner in Lakewood, and this one will be the last one I pull. I'm a plumber, I know what I'm doing. I try to do things the right way, but this building department is a nightmare. I haven't had any issues with the inspectors, but the front desk lady is rude and demeaning and the print review takes forever.

If I had just done my project, I would be done by now. Waiting a month for a simple renovation permit is beyond ridiculous. I'm not building a spaceship.

I support doing things the right way, and it would be a great service to have a building department to verify things are done correctly. Unfortunately, we don't have that in Lakewood.

I see why they have a 2 star rating. So far, No call back and no answer 3 x and counting.

I called today to ask a question.. instead of getting an answer, I was sent to a voicemail. I called again, asking for a possible live person, or somebody to ask my basic question, and I was cut off as I was asking, sent to another voicemail. Upon calling back- there was no answer to my call, after several calls.

Your receptionist is rude, and doesn’t take the time to listen to WHY people may be calling. As a receptionist, you’re also responsible for first impressions. You, receptionist- are doing this office a huge disservice. If taking the time to let people tell you why you’re calling, and ESPECIALLY when you have the answer or COULD get it, is annoying to you, find another profession. Maybe one where you don’t have to talk to people.

I have never in the 40 some years of pouring concrete been treated as bad as we are in Lakewood . The inspector ( Brian ) might be educated but knows nothing about common sense , working with people , I have never had a city guy try so hard as him to find things wrong . He’s power hungry and has to throw it around . What makes him think his smart level is so accurate he make people tear out concrete over 1 and 2 hundredths of a percent !!!! Smart levels aren’t that accurate especially since I watched him drop it one day and step on it another . I m pouring up against concrete that is out of spec already and he beating us up over 2 hundredths of a percent . Then he tells us our concrete has to be colored when it’s not on the plan , and he comes up to me when we are ready to broom concrete and says it has to be exposed Agg . That also is not on plans . The mix for one was not right and I didn’t have the releases . So he comes the next day and doesn’t like it makes us tear it out . Know we pour it back regular Grey and broomed . Our company will never do work in city of Lakewood again as long as Brian is there , in fact our license expires next month and we will not renew .

Inspector came by and I had a note up saying to call me because I was 5 minutes away running an errand. He left note saying I have to call back and setup new appointment. Pretty sure 5 minutes would not have ruined his day. This is what we call a public servant these days.

Plan reviewer is a nice guy, the ladies who run the counter are god awful. There's always additude.If you're that miserable doing the work you do find a career path that better suits you .I hear rtds hiring.

Plan review ok 7 of 10 . Inspectors 1 of 10. Biased, rude, good ole' boys club. Interpret the code to meet their personal belief. Inconsistent to a point of whether they are in a good mood or bad mood.

Worst building department out here all super rude don't care about building at all the lady that answered the phone doesn't know anything! Super annoying need to fire everyone and restart

Unreasonably expensive for professional licensing. Was hung up on by a woman at their office who was rude throughout the conversation we had today. Not impressed with Lakewood.

Awful, website has no information and no one answers phones. Only the government can get away with that. I pray one day these types of agencies are gone and outsourced.
