Hereford House - Shawnee

I enjoyed the dine-in experience. Food was great. Service was spot-on. Atmosphere was good. Plenty of parking. I would say the cost is more than the average place but I thought it was worth it.

I’ve had a really good and enjoyable time the past couple night here in Shawnee. Great food, outstanding drinks, and good atmosphere with delightful music.

I’ve enjoyed the wedge, the 1957 salad, the kebabs, the meatloaf, and the long islands. Good Times.

I've been a Hereford House customer for years. All their locations are great, but the Shawnee spot is def special. The food is always top notch, especially the prime rib. (My fave). The mashed potatoes are the best in town. The servers are all super nice, but Bobbie is absolutely tops! She goes above and beyond! So glad they're conveniently located! My go to steak house, especially when I have out of town guests.

Wanting for early dinner, about 5 pm. Dinner was a ribeye, green beans and potatoes. Drink was sourmash on the rocks. The potatoes and beans were well prepared and tasty. The "meat of the matter", the ribeye was excellent, perfectly grilled and exactly as ordered. The sourmash was a very generous pour. The service provided by Patricia was that perfect balance of service and attentive watchfulness from a distance. No hovering or unnecessary visits to make sure everything is OK. The evening was so pleasant I spend a while at the bar enjoying pleasant conversation with a few of the locals and the bar tender, who provided the same style of exceptional service as Patricia. A great evening out.

MY BIRTHDAY IS TODAY. I ATE THERE LAST NIGHT AND ORDERED A 30OZ PRIME RIB. YES I ATE EVERYTHING. I NORMALLY GET A 40 OZ. LOL I HAVE BEEN EATING THERESINCE I WAS KID. DOWNTOWN AND THE SHAWNEE AND LEAWOOD. BOTH LOCATIONS ARE GREAT. SHAWNEE IS EASIER TO GET INTO. THANK YOU TO THE OWNER MARK AND STAFF FOR ALL THESE YEARS FOR GREAT FOOD AND SERVICE. I WILL ALWAYS BE BACK!!

We took a good friend here tonight for her birthday, and it was perfect. We wanted a place that would get everything right without telling them it was a birthday. Ya'll did great. The spinach artichoke dip was great. All the salads were great. She loved the chicken fried chicken. My husband loved the meatloaf. I had the French dip, and it was heavenly. Thank you so much for doing what you always do and be top notch!

I stayed at the Marriot right beside the restaurant and ate there 3 out of 5 nights. 5 stars across the board. Excellent!

We have a monthly luncheon in their meeting room. Typically 20 to 30 people attend. Always top tier service & the lunch menu is a real great value!

A hidden gem...the husband and I were at Lowe's and wanted lunch on a Sunday. A lot of places where we live are not open. This place has it all. We only ordered the cheeseburgers and fries. Perfectly cooked and great portions! We will be back to try the 4 course for 2 people...it's 99.00 and can't wait to try!

Steak was good, but service could have been much better. The server appeared to have forgotten about it for a while to the point that we had to go to the front desk to ask for help. The server hadn't brought out the salad, bread, or refilled or drinks. She might have been busy elsewhere, but we could see since we were in a small private room.

Once I let the front desk know, she appeared again, and the service got better.

Went back on 4/20 and service was much better!

Nom nom nom... This location is a hidden gem. We made a reservation for just the wife and I for a special occasion. We got there and were seated immediately. The place is broken up into several dining "rooms", rather than just one big space. So noise is limited to just the other parties that have been seated in your section. We could see this as being a good or bad situation depending on the other parties... Looking over the menu there are a number of appetizing options. We ended up going with the "meal for two". It's a 4 course meal for two people. Shared appetizer and dessert, but diners can choose between the soup or salad, and a pared down list of entrees. All this for $99. And they don't skimp on the portions. I can eat a lot and we both still ended up coming home with leftovers.
Our server was attentive but didn't hover. She was patient and informative with her answers to our questions. Food came out at a good speed for there to be little wait between courses. Our drinks were refilled when appropriate.
For our appetizer we chose the goat cheese with habanero jam. The heat of the jam was well balanced with the cheese. They give way more than what can fit on the bruschetta.
For the second course, we could choose between a prime rib stew and 1957 salad. We both went with the salad. The size was good and there was plenty of stuff on top. Dressings were good too.
Third course, the wife went with the petit oscar (5oz bacon-wrapped beef tenderloin, lump blue crab meat). She usually gets fillet mignon, but really liked this as well. I had the pork chop(s). The menu says plural, but honestly, they are the meat of one thick cut chop with the bone removed. I know my pork chops... Don't get me wrong. It's a lot of meat with or without the bone. It was grilled to perfection. So juicy... Compliments to the boys in the kitchen! I had sides of Parm broccoli and sweet potato fries. The broccoli was perfectly steamed. Done but still a lot of crunch. No mushy greens here. The sweet potato fries are waffle cut and also done to perfection. Crispy and sweet. It's so easy to mess up sweet potato fries for them to come out mushy and bland. Not here.
Dessert: we went with the cheese cake but got it to go. We were just to full to eat it there. But come on... It's cheese cake.
This location of this KC steakhouse is a literally hidden. It's on the west side of 435 on Midland Dr. Only other thing there are a couple hotels. On a Saturday night there were a lot of tables open. Maybe everyone is at home watching basketball. Don't know. But the kitchen knows what's up. The server we had was top notch. It was a real treat to get this quality without being crowded. We had a wonderful meal and were able to have nice conversation without trying to talk over a near by table. The only negative, and I say this after sitting there for 90min, the chairs could be a bit more comfy. My rear needed something else after the first 60min.. I know.. it's nit-picking. Everything else was grand for our special occasion.

First time here, excellent in every aspect, Calamari almost the same we had in Greece, Steakburger was impressive. My wife said is better than Jack Stack. Stuffed mushrooms amazing. Soup was absolutely delicious. Will return

2nd restaurant week dining. Hereford House off Midland & 435 is conveniently located with plenty of private parking. Promptly seated and drinks promptly served. Great 'restaurant week' menu with the steakburger being my favorite. This isn't your fast food dining, so had to wait awhile for the burger, but the result was a juicy(not too juicy) very delicious and per the pic(s) a hearty burger. $15 for burger, fries & fudge brownie (+2.50 for iced tea), this was a very positive experience. Shout-out to Israel for his attentive service.

Hereford House is still one of the best steak houses in the KC area. The atmosphere is more casual than more upscale places, and the service is always great. It's a great choice for groups and special occasions, but is good for a date night or just a nicer dinner with the family.

Literally 3 miles from my apartment and right off the highway. Not sure why I have slept on this phenomenal restaurant! 🤷🏾‍♂.

Hostess sat us at a 4 top table and kindly relocated us to an intimate booth upon our request.

The Prime Rib hits the mark! 🎯. So savory. And i would be remiss if I didn't mention the raw horseradish sauce!

Charley makes the best margaritas. The best is the jalapeño and and habanero margarita!

Can't see this restaurant legend from the roads! I've driven past at least a hundred times! So happy Google Maps showed me! Amazing happy hour choices. Delightful Fall Sangria, loaded potato skin- medallions, spicy honey fried chicken wings made for a wonderful happy hour experience! Our hostess and server's attention was excellent and the manager even checked in! Go! Enjoy! It's a classic KC experience!

"I had an incredible experience at this steakhouse! We had a large reservation for 40 people and the room was spacious, clean, and prepared ahead of time. The food was outstanding, with everything from the menu arriving promptly and cooked to perfection. The waitstaff was exceptional, attending to everyone's needs with professionalism and courtesy. I can't wait to go back for another amazing dining experience!

We were at the restaurant during lunch. We ordered from the lunch menu. We started with house salads which were made of crisp iceberg lettuce and purple cabbage. They were generously sized with sliced grape tomatoes, cucumbers and large toasted croutons. The salad was served cold! A mini loaf of warm white bread was served with the salad. It reminded me of my grandma's dinner rolls! Yummy! My husband ordered the 10 oz. strip and I ordered the 5 oz. medallion. We both chose loaded baked potatoes as our side. Our steaks were perfectly prepared and well seasoned. No steak sauce needed! The meat used for both cuts was very tender. Very very good. The baked potatoes were hot and nicely sized, fluffy and well seasoned. Fully loaded included bacon, cheese, chives, sour cream and butter. Our waitress was pleasant and attentive. She refreshed our beverages and checked on us from time to time.
