Horsford Gardens and Nursery

I absolutely love Horsford Gardens and Nursery and have been an annual customer since 2007, buying their gorgeous balsam Christmas wreaths for family members and friends. Not only are the wreaths fragrant and fresh and verdant, the customer service is superb. An example would be today, when I received a call confirming the shipping addresses for this year's wreath gifts (thank you, Paige!). Not only did she deem it an important clarification, she also took the time to reason through the addresses and ensure that the wreaths were indeed going to the proper locations across the US. This type of contact is rare these days, and I am happy to spotlight it. The quality of their wreaths - both the health of the boughs and the artistry of their arrangement - is top-notch. You will be very satisfied with Horsford for your Christmas wreath purchases!

This is one of my favorite garden centers in the eastern seaboard. I live in Erie pa. But, make at least one trip a year to come check out this garden center. My car stops at garden centers and antique stores. Every year I find a few new perennials for my gardens. The setting is wonderful, the gardens are great, the staff always appear to love what they do and are always very helpful.

Just visited yesterday and it was such a delightful experience, great selection of gorgeous plants to choose from, the display gardens are inspiring, and staff couldn't have been more helpful! They've also taken great care with safety measures for covid-fear-free visiting and check out. I bought beautiful hanging baskets for Mothers Day and a great assortment of cool weather tolerant annuals they have been coaching along outdoors. Can't wait to return as soon as it's a bit warmer for more annuals. A joy to visit if you enjoy gardens!

Horsford Gardens are an hour drive from my home, but worth it if only for browsing. The selections are diverse, well tended, healthy and abundant. This year I am replanting a shady side of our house, and found every variety of perennials I wanted and more, as well as friendly and enthusiastic help from the staff. After emailing a question about evergreens, I received an answer less than 24 hours later. If any of my plants fail, it will be due to my enthusiasm for an early start!

We have ordered Christmas wreaths for relatives, friends and ourselves many times. The quality craftsmanship of the wreaths is impeccable and the smell of fresh pine in the house is delightful.

We have an artificial tree so filling the house with the scent associated with Christmas while foregoing the need to sweep up pine needles gives us the best of both worlds.

Even after taking the wreaths down in January we had no needles shedding on the floor. They are shipped absolutely fresh and arrive in excellent condition.

Dealing with the small company in person (we used to live in Vermont where the nursery is located), on the phone or online is always a pleasure. It would be hard to find a company that had the warmth, efficiency and personal touch of Horsford.

My recommendation is to treat yourself to wreaths or centerpieces that will add a magical touch to your winter holiday season!

Passing by on business trip from NY. All I can say is completely unexpected and amazing! Selection was unbelievable and staff very helpful and friendly. Prices seemed fair and you could see the effort that went into taking care of and arranging the plants just so. How good was It? I'll be bringing my wife on a field trip the 4 1/2 hours back to show her the acres and acres of this nursery. That's how good it is! Go- you'll be glad you did.

We have had wonderful experiences at this nursery over the years, but most recently, we had exceptional service. We purchased a tree and had it delivered and planted. The tree is beautiful, the service was amazing, and the gentleman who planted the tree was professional and did an amazing job. We highly recommend coming to Horsford Nursery for any landscaping you may need!

I stopped by Horsford yesterday. What a pleasant shopping experience. I got out of my car and started looking at the signs showing me where the different plants were located. A gentleman noticed and asked me what I was looking for and directed me. When I was done shopping for my vegetable plants, I was looking at the bagged dirt and another gentleman asked if he could assist me. Once I told him what I was doing and how big my raised bed was, he helped me figure out the amount of dirt. My shopping trip completed, he brought me to a no wait check out around the corner of the building, where a young lady was ready to check me out. After checking out, she helped me carry the bags of dirt and load into my vehicle. Pleasant employees and customer service matters. I will be back!

Not only does Horsford Gardens and Nursery have very high quality plants, but their staff is extremely knowledgeable. In addition to their vast selection onsite, they are willing to do special orders. Excellent service. Excellent plants.

Great experience. Had to drive 90 minutes to get to Horsford Nursery but was rewarded by a large selection of outstanding plants, helpful staff and reasonable prices. Within minutes of my arrival it became clear that a visit to Horsford is an enormous step up from the offerings of the local box store. I highly recommend a visit.

I just had three Norway Spruce trees installed at my house in Shelburne by David and Josh. They did a fantastic job and I was super impressed with their customer service and professionalism.

Ben also did a great job of getting us scheduled during one of your busiest times of the year. It was a refreshing pleasure to deal with all three - they all did an exceptional job. Trees were in amazing shape and we look forward to watching them grow!

Seemingly endless supply of high quality plants for all your gardening needs. Everything is very well organized in a logical way. Large team of helpful employees. Come for plants, advice, or inspiration. A must-see for any gardening enthusiast.

The quality of the fresh wreathes exceptional. They have a lovely pine fragrance that greets me each time I enter or leave the house. They arrived when scheduled and will not disappoint. Debbie Pedersen

WOW! No hyperbole....this is most enchanting nursery with old quaint buildings, stonework, sheds and greenhouses on the planet! Owners Eileen, Charlie and their amazing team are among the most knowledgeable, helpful and gracious group my wife and I have ever had the pleasure of working with. They produced an exquisite landscape/hardscape design for our 1910 near teardown camp with that was literally falling into the lake after 40+ years of neglect. Post construction they brought in massive amounts of stone, soil and gravel, incorporated natural drainage that saved us thousands....as we do not need any gutters!! Prior to that all the rain washed into the entry ways and we had post-construction dust and mud up to our eyeballs. They laid out gravel walk ways around the house, exposed gem of a hidden natural ledge and then planted the most exquisite collection of trees, shrubs, ferns, perennials and ground cover (myrtle)...that looks quiet, peaceful, understated and as if it always was that way. Thanks a bazillion Horsford's Nursery/Distinctive Landscaping. We love you!

I have half of my rain garden plants from Horsfords. I have bought plants from them since the early 1980's. Both Annuals, and perennials. Charlie Prout, the owner, has a wonderful landscape design firm, here, as well: Distinctive Landscaping. Whose policy has always been to contain storm water runoff, reuse, recycle, anything possible, and create unusual designs in both large and small spaces, including unique garden shed design, curving rock walls, pervious brick pavers.

Over the years, when I have needed help, it has been given to me, easily, with a smile. When I just needed a quart of ground blue stone, instead of the huge bag they were selling, they let me take some from their landscaping pile.

They have helped the charitable Flynn Garden Tour several times with lectures, places for the tea, plants given out as gifts, discounts, and garden tours. I am on the committee for the tours.

and today they helped save Lake Champlain from too much storm water runoff by working with LCI, and holding a class on designing, planting, a rain garden.

Great selection! I particularly like how they label native and VT native plants.

Absolutely a great place to get plants, friendly staff and well stocked with everything you want.

So much amazing stuff to see and so little time! Around every corner sweeping masses of perennials bursting color...long green houses packed with annuals and uncommon cultivars .. acres and acres of shrubs, healthy trees...Fully staffed with a posse of true grit gardeners, hardscapers, growers, designers, veteran architect..Just go for the fun of it if nothing else.

Today both the owner of the nursery and the young lady who was carefully tending to the amazingly beautiful annuals answered all my questions thoroughly and gave positive suggestions too. My husband and I will be back next spring!
