Very fair pricing and appointment planning was simple and not far out. Loved that they have a capable herpotologist on staff for my Ball python. Problem and symptoms we're resolved on the first visit and the follow up was fast and pain free. We are driving 100miles away to go here and will continue to do so.

I've brought several of my cats here and they've taken excellent care of them. Very compassionate staff and don't overcharge or suggest things you don't need. Was there again today, 4/19/19 to bring my 2 cats in for their shots and complete check up. Dr. Davis is wonderful! She takes the time to explain things to me in detail and I so appreciate that because I know her time is valuable! Summer and Jasper are all set now for another year! And the bill was far less than I thought it would be which is awesome since I'm on a fixed income! I will certainly be returning! Thanks to Dr. Davis and all the staff! 😄❣😄

When we needed a vet for our prairie dog, we were so thankful that Dr. Hardy was willing to see her. He was the perfect vet for us. He did exactly what was needed but didn't push to do more. We didn't want her put through unnecessary stress. Dr. Hardy was wonderful with her. We were lucky to find him.

I took my parrot "Bantu", and Dr. Hardy and his staff handled him very well despite him not being tamed. They were very thorough in the exam, and Bantu got a clean bill of health.

First visit was yesterday (9/14/23) for two chickens - yes, chickens. Very friendly staff and the doc was great. Very affordable as well. They were able to get me in 5 days after I called. Will be back

Dr. Hardy is amazing, I take my birds here very often, and I have also taken reptiles here. Dr. Hardy is extremely thorough in his examinations and great at handling the animals. He always answers all of my questions and concerns and makes sure I know exactly what's going on with my babies. I am so thankful to have such a great exotic vet relatively close to where I live. Oh and his staff are so sweet and friendly, they are so used to seeing me they make me feel right at home and are so sweet to my birds!

I've only heard good things about this vet so I decided to take my little bunny Bruno here for his first check up. They are so nice and know how to treat your pets with the same love and compassion that you give your pets. Definitely recommend this vet to everyone, especially if you have a bunny! We'll see you all in a few weeks when he gets fixed ❤

My friend Miss Wiggy & I (the lit'l blu + grn Half-Moon Conure on my shoulder in pic) frequently visit Dr. Hardy & staff, @ J.R. Animal Hospital, & are always treated with the utmost respect - from start to finish - every time.
I've been to other avian vets here, & without going into details, let me just say, I was appalled.
Hardy is truly a bird whisperer - if he can't find the answer to the problem, he seemingly does not sleep, til he does. When my bird was very sick, he even took him home overnight, to personally keep an eye on him. He really goes the extra mile, and that meant a lot, to me. No other vet has ever done that.
The staff have also been ever- curtious, smiley & professional.
We wouldn't dream of going anywhere else.

We have been using James River Animal Hospital for 30 years. Dr. Hardy and Dr. Davis have been very caring, knowledgeable veterinarians for the many fur babies we've had over the years. Their care has always been delivered with competency and compassion; two qualities I so appreciate. They treat our pets like the cherished family members they are. Their entire staff, from the girls at the front desk to the techs and assistants in the back, are so kind and helpful.
You can trust them to lovingly care for your fur babies.

Dr Hardy is so kind, compassionate and wonderful to my family’s pets. From my daughter’s Guinea pigs to our dogs, he’s been amazing. You may have to wait a bit, but that’s because he takes his time and actually researches ailments. Thank you, Dr Hardy and the rest of the JRAH team!

We did not bring our dog here- but when we had an emergency we spoke with Sarah and she was SO HELPFUL over the phone. She explained that they are short staffed and pointed us in the direction of a place that could help us ASAP. Thankyou so much!

Enjoyed our first visit with our new puppy and he got sick and they got us right back in!!

Updated: We have had both of our dogs fixed there and they do an awesome job. We have been going there since we got our first dog two years ago.

Everyone at James River animal hospital always shows so much love for my dog. They truly care about the pets that comes through their doors. and always do their best to help them.

The staff was very friendly and professional. Dr Hardy knew exactly how to treat my sick turtle when I brought him in. He is on the road to recovery! Thank you.

I have a ferret and it is very hard to find good and caring doctors for him in our area. Dr. Hardy is very patient, professional and knowledgeable for small and exotic pets. He saved my ferret three times from sickness.

Wonderful, wonderful place. Caring staff and a vet who is very knowledgeable on a wide variety of animals. Drove my snake an hour to this place because she wasn't feeling well and it was soo worth it. We got her the meds that she needs and it was only $25!! We need more vets like this in the world... if you're reading this Dr. Hardy... thank you so much for caring for my Bindi, she is my world

Dr. Hardy and his staff were amazing. I have a squirrel who was not doing well. Having just moved here I was very concerned about finding a vet who would be able to treat him. Both Dr Hardy and his staff were most knowledgeable and helpful in successfully treating him. The bill was much more reasonable than I thought! I will take all my pets..exotic and not so exotic... back to him in a heart beat...Thank you so much!!

Been a customer here since 2003. They love their job and it shows in the care they give. I had a large Macaw and dogs when I first moved here and the vet from the other state had recommended James River because of my bird. I had dogs also. Dr Davis has been wonderful with all my babies. She always explains everything to you and what course of action to take to get your baby well.
