Author's Kitchen and Bar

This was our first visit, we came in for breakfast right at opening on Monday. Erin greeted us and was very polite and welcoming.

The restaurant gives off a comfortable homey feel. The music choice was good, the volume loud but not obnoxious to where we couldn't talk across the table. We admired the artwork and fixtures and even enjoyed the random coffee mugs they seem to use.

The menu although small had lots of options, we were able to chose from the entire menu even though it was only 8am. We went with the burrito bowl and the Skillet, the special of the day. Both came out looking very appealing. The dishes tasted fresh and flavorful. The toast with their homemade jam and butter were my favorite part. Everything was so delicious. The bread pudding was suggested to us at the end of our meal so we split a slice, very good.

Service was good. She checked on us enough but also let us enjoy our meal and conversation. The cost wasn't terrible, about what to expect these days while dining out. We will return!

Empanadas is the best! I could just eat these everyday. Everything we had there was delicious. Just wish they had longer hours!

Went back for dinner and absolutely loved everything we had there. Strongly recommend this place.

Lovely brunch for my birthday ! We had their special skillet and their French toast. I had the amalfi cocktail. Would definitely come again and try their lunch or dinner.

This is my favorite breakfast/brunch place within 100 miles of where I live. I never miss a chance to eat here. I have also had lunch here and it was awesome. Everything is so lovingly prepared and the ingredients really shine. I love that they use real maple syrup… this is Wisconsin after all! Today I had the sourdough french toast with the most delicious apples on top and it was wonderful - great balance of sweet and savory. Sorry for the low quality picture I couldn’t wait to eat! The cafe batido is a must. The atmosphere is so cozy and calming. Perfection!

Hands down the best eggs benedict I've ever had. You cannot go wrong with the Ham Benny and the service is second-to-none. I will tell everyone I know to check out Authors. Thank you for a wonderful experience.

This was my first time going to Author's for breakfast with my wife. The atmosphere, food, presentation, and service are all excellent.

Great local place for some great food. We were very excited to try it for the first time. I got the lunch special. Salmon Power Bowl with rice, avocado, arugula, an egg and sweet potatoes. It was one of the best tasting protein bowls I've ever had. Wish this would be a full time menu item! Wife had the Gnocchi pasta. It was also fantastic. Kirk is a great server and provides excellent service.

Authors is definitely one of my favorite restaurants in the Fox Valley… food is always awesome. I also have to say that we have such great service every time we are there, everyone is so nice and welcoming!

We usually get their empanadas to start, they have rotating flavors along with a a chicken one that they serve all the time, and no matter what the variety is that day they are always delish! Each empanada comes with a dipping sauce and their chimichurri aioli really adds to them… this sauce would be good on so many things! My my kids usually go for the pancakes and clean their plates! My favorites menu items are the salmon sashimi (seriously so insanely good), chicken Parmesan, huevos rancheros and the tomato soup (to die for). Honestly, their entire menu is great!! Also, the floral mimosa is also a favorite… I love champagne but don’t really love OJ, so their take on this drink is ideal for me!

Author’s is so cute and cozy! I absolutely love the decor and environment. The food is amazing! The bread pudding was absolutely delicious (not pictured) The empanadas are so good, the pastry is perfectly flaky and delicious. We got a lot of different things at lunch and everything was so good. Highly recommend!

Wow!!!!!! I am kicking myself again for not getting here sooner. Located in a beautiful old building downtown Appleton, this long, narrow restaurant offers a wonderful ambiance with big windows at the front, a fully stocked bar (with the best bloody's and mimosas) and the right amount of seating to keep it cozy and private yet functional for them to fill the place up.
Dined in for breakfast, skipped the local coffee and went right to the cocktails that were hand made and delicious. I added the empanada to my bloody Mary and was glad I did, absolutely delicious and such a cool touch. My wife had the floral mimosa that was perfectly light and tasty. She ordered the cheese risotto cake- this dish was slightly sweet served with avocado and a poached egg, it was very pleasant to eat with the flavors balancing perfectly! I had the daily scramble feature- cast iron Pan loaded with caramelized onion, potatoes, fluffy eggs, sausage, cheese, and avocado on top with a nice thick slice of buttered sourdough.
Everything was fantastic from service, food, ambiance, and price. We can't want to get back for dinner, this is a must try for anyone!

We chose AK & B in the recommendation of our hotel, and we are so glad we did! Everything was wonderful- the decor was charming and positive starting with the quote and posters in the entry. The service was warm and friendly, and Olivia put up with lots of questions and made great recommendations. The food was absolutely delicious! The empanadas were so yummy I forgot to take a picture - Authentic Argentinian flavors - what a treat! We will definitely be back next time we're in Appleton.

The bad, worst business hours ever for such a fantastic eatery. Especially if you're from out of town visiting on weekends.

Servers are super nice and accommodating! Never had a bad experience.

A quick lunch on a road trip, turned out to be a superb meal! Hidden amidst a number of dining options, you can't go wrong with Author's Kitchen! Cute and inviting decor is simply a lovely lead-in to an amazing meal!

Parking might be a challenge, but ample street parking available, plus a little walk is good after meals, right?!? Enjoy the artwork as you enter and check in at front station for seating...found staff to be prompt and polite. We were seated shortly after walking in and provided lunch special, which is what we both ordered, the risotto is excellent!

Plenty of seating available, appears to have a full bar and coffee section too. Regretting not trying dessert, but entree very filling. Did I say nap time??

First time visiting Appleton and omg the brioche French toast just blow my mind, it is sooooo good!! It is so fluffy!!

The lemon ricotta pancake is also exceptional.

Very cute place to grab breakfast! The atmosphere is cozy and the food was delicious. They appeared to have a lot of vegetarian options which were clearly marked. Definitely recommend the coffee advertised at the bottom of the menu (the name escapes me) but absolutely delicious iced! +10 points for the metal straw!

Very good food. Different varieties to choose from. The breakfast sausage was the only thing I wouldn't recommend. But I tried lots of different items on the menu and everything was awesome. Service was good to.

What a delightful way to enter the first day of fall! The ambiance was warm and inviting (and the interior looks fantastic!). The (Not So) Old Fashioned was a great sipper and today's featured soup was a cheesy broccoli/cauliflower soup that was the best way to enter a new season! Definitely look forward to coming here again!

I’ve been to Author’s twice now and both times have been delicious! I’ve been eating plant based for a while now and I got the Quinoa and sweet potato bowl. It was OUT OF THIS WORLD GOOD! Our waitress was so kind and checked on us just enough times.

Second visit and I can’t say a negative thing about a thing. Food was delicious. Place is very clean with a great atmosphere. Greeted and seated with a very friendly gal. Definitely will be back.

Hands down the best place I've eaten in Appleton in years. We had the fettuccine Alfredo and the Scottish salmon with toffee cake for dessert. We also had a cocktail before dinner. The food was moderately priced but tasted Michelin 5 star. The atmosphere is chic casual and a great place for a date or special occasion or not. The service was good but honestly who cares if the food is this amazing? We will definitely eat here again. I didn't ask about catering but would definitely cater a party or business meal if that was an option. They do have a room for groups as well.

Round two one month after my first experience. Outstanding food. Excellent service. This time I had the Halibut special and my wife had the chicken parmesan. Arancini appetizer is awesome. Victoria (our server) gave us excellent advice and wonderful non intrusive service. The food is fresh. Served hot and delicious. If you are eating in downtown Appleton this is a place you should not pass by.
First time I have had an opportunity to have lunch service. Again the food and service was outstanding. I had the salmon ABL sandwich and my daughter had the special salad bowl. Outstanding.
