I'm utterly impressed by this place! From the moment I spotted the staircase leading down to the basement, I had a feeling it would be fantastic, and boy, was I right! With a selection of 14 taps featuring local beer, it's a beer lover's paradise! Felix, our bartender, was not only incredibly friendly but also incredibly knowledgeable about the brews. Even the security staff were top-notch. The overall friendliness of the staff has ensured that I'll be returning! Highly recommended!

Had a great time. The bartender Tracy was amazing. He was very knowledgeable about everything they served and also had great recommendations about things to do in the DC area. He was the one who made it a great time. Thank you Tracy.

Cocktails were so good and the atmosphere was super fun on trivia night - It was the perfect level of noise and crowdedness for a 31 year old like me, lol.

Had a chance to drop by Free State Bar the other evening and found it to be a nice spot to relax and catch up with friends. The bar has a welcoming ambiance, paired with a diverse drink menu that caters to different preferences. The staff was approachable and provided prompt service. I particularly appreciated the comfortable seating and the background music, which set a good mood without being too loud. It's a place I'd recommend for those looking to have a pleasant time in a laid-back setting. I'll certainly consider returning the next time I'm around.

Cozy basement bar, all local drafts and spirits made on the east coast from North Carolina and up. No name brand drinks for the most part besides a few limited staples like patron, black label, jack Daniels, etc. Friendly regulars, small but great staff, good place for happy groups. Beer list constantly changes because they try to rotate a lot of local drafts. Stop in for sure if in DC

Fantastic bar and even better bartenders! Great locally sourced cocktails and beers. Would highly recommend if in the Chinatown area.

Had a really great night here on Friday. Drinks and bar staff were super friendly even when it was super busy. Met a great guy called Tim who looked after me whilst visiting Washington DC but lost his number ☹ so if you see this thanks so much for a fun evening and the Uber ride! Would recommend this bar, lively and good vibes x

This place is awesome. Both sexy and easy going at the same time. Could be on a date or with friends, great for both. Won't be a hidden gem for long.

In town for the weekend and didn’t know where to go. Honestly the bartenders are so nice and the vibe is warm and inviting. Great for sitting and talking with friends.

This place is awesome. The staff is great. I've been coming here, happenstance, since day 2. They have always remembered me walking in the door, even when it's packed full. The selection is focused on local brews and distillate. They have some other liquors, but really just to try and please everyone, which you can't always do anyway. The focus is mainly on local. They make some great selections for stock and are consistently knowledgeable on everything in there. They will gladly toss you a suggestion if you ask for it or can guide you in the right direction if you are uncertain. They don't serve food from a kitchen, but they do have some snacks on hand and will pass you a book full of local places you can order and have delivered. I highly recommend this basement bar and will consistently be coming back as long as I am in the area.

Great vibes, one of DC's best bourbon and scotch menus. Knowledgeable bartenders will work to find your perfect drink or cocktail. Beautiful decor and atmosphere rather than the traditional over-crowded bars around Verizon Center. Perfect for intimate dates, group happy hours or hanging at the bar. TOP NOTCH

This place is great. Matt and Tracy are awesome. The place has a very cool aesthetic. They also have a space to sit outside. Very impressive selection of beer and liquor and tasty cocktails.

We dropped in here for a pre-dinner drinks and we were impressed by both the quality of the cocktails and value. Jaime welcomed us in and made us feel welcome, we will definitely be back the next time we're in DC.

Tracey is the best bartender- friendly and chill and always ready to serve cool drinks. It's hard to go to another bar once you meet Tracey!!

This would be my local hangout if I lived in DC. The staff is great and the have small pours if you are interested in trying several different beers. They allow food as well. Clean and stylish.

Cozy basement bar tucked under Bantam King with happy hour - $2 off beer, wine, and cocktails. The only downside is that there's no traditional bar food served besides some lights snacks.

The "Spicy Brown Derby" cocktail is refreshing with a hint of sweetness from the grapefruit, honey, and ginger beer that complement the bourbon. It hit the spot and got another round! I preferred the "Spicy Brown Derby" over the "Cherry Sparkle" cocktail.

The bubbly "Cherry Sparkle" was a bit dry and tart. The ingredients didn't quite blend together - gin, cherry syrup, lemon, and cremant (drier than champagne).

Nice neighborhood watering hole and oasis to escape the tourists and bustling crowds of Chinatown.

Great bar in gallery place. Local beer and spirits. Fantastic selection. Happy hour is 2$ off drafts, spirits, and wine. You can bring food from outside to supplement their minimal bar snack menu.
