Recently came here for pizza nights! Had never been here before, but will definitely be coming back to visit the bakery and get coffee one morning. The pizza was really good and we really enjoyed how it was on a sourdough crust. The workers themselves were very friendly and helpful!

I first heard about Seylou 6 months ago, I had their pizza and it was delicious. I finally made it out to the bakery and tried their savory pepper and goat cheese puff pastry, the fig and whipped ricotta pastry, their vegetable (can't remember which) and cheese bread and, the hibiscus iced tea. The pepper and goat cheese savory puff pastry was a home run. The honey glaze with the goat cheese and the mild spice of the peppers was heavenly. The whipped ricotta and fig pastry was suddenly and delicate without overwhelming your taste buds with sweetness. The vegetable and cheese bread was ok, the texture was nice but the flavor was a bit lacking. The hibiscus iced tea was tart and wonderful. I also remember their pizza being delicious and hearty. I would definitely recommend giving them a try if you can. The staff is so sweet and welcoming and the place is so clean, simple and modern.

Here is what you must know before getting anything at Seylou. They use whole wheat and other grains such as spelt and barley for all their baked goods. If you only like refined white flour baked goods then don’t go there. I didn’t use to be a fan of whole wheat or brown flours in general, the higher fiber content makes them automatically a little less moist or airy when compared to the over processed/ under nourishing alternatives. So if this is your first foray into this world, I recommend you start with their Focaccias which they have on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday after 11 am. The airy bread is topped with seasonal hyperlocal goodness which adds lightness and tons of flavor. I also recommend the savory stuffed pastries.
The sweet pasties are very delicious, a little heavy compared to the refined stuff, but they have layers of flavor that you can’t find with other flours.
I love their bird bread. It’s basically a seed bread that’s perfect for tartines, in place of crackers or for dipping with soups and drizzling with honey.
Wednesday pizza is so special, you can order a pie ahead or walk in after 5:30 and get pizza by the slice. Always a treat.

As a bread dork, I was excited to try this place and I reveled in the geekiness of the place with its whole grains and emphasis on local products and naturalness… the staff were nice and the place was big enough for easy seating with it being too noisy or annoying. They have lots of savory pastries and the expected sweet ones. But some surprises too. You can order online or call or show up. The scone with the green bits (parsley?) was my favorite and the shortcake cookie was my least favorite. Because of the use of whole grain, all the baked goods look over baked. They are not. And the crunch, good golly, on the pastries — is wholly gazonga! The butter coffee is more or a gimmick and I wish it was in a smaller cup. All the drinks can be iced as well. Great place and I love the educational retail space. Teach me!

We came here on a Sunday morning shortly after the place opened and there was already a bit of a line. It moved quickly and the staff was very friendly. There’s a lot of different breads and pastries to choose from. We tried a chocolate almond croissant which was delicious. We also had a savoury pastry filled with vegetables. They were both made with whole wheat bread which gave a different flavour than usual with these kinds of things. The coffee here is good too.

Gotta show some love to your local bakery. Spots like this are few and far between in D.C. so let’s show this gem some love.

Genuinely, some of the most flavorful bread and pastries I’ve ever tried. They use flour from local mills and farmers and it really shows.

If you strike up a conversation with the bakers you will find that they are friendly, passionate, and knowledgeable about their craft.

My favorite bakery in the DMV area! They also have a stand at the Old Town Farmers Market in Alexandria, VA with most of their sweet and savory items. My favorite item is their almond croissant, and I always get excited to try their seasonal items. The vibes at their bakery is relaxing and warm, it's always a pleasure to visit.

It might not sound mind blowing but every scone I’ve tried here has been absolutely amazing! They’ve made me love things like rainbow chard and mustard greens, who knew those made such incredible scones! I love trying their daily rotation of baked goods, so high quality and creative

I really enjoyed the vibes at the Seylou bakery. It was very clean and industrial. The baked goods were excellent and the iced Matcha tea I had was great. The staff was very nice. I like how you can see the brick oven off to the right. There are a good amount of windows and a lot of white which allows the natural light to fill the bakery. If it wasn't so far from where I live I'd stop in all the time.

I Come back here all the time. It's my favorite bakery in the city.

Best organic sourdough bread and sourdough pastries! They make their bread in house and grind their own flour and you can taste the freshness and love that goes into the food here. I also got a piece of they frittata and the spinach and feta croissant which was delicious. I will definitely be coming back here. Oh and they do a long fermentation in their breads which makes it healthier for our gut and easier to digest!

DC is really good in some cuisine and just so-so in others. One of the best parts of DC is its strong bakery game. And Seylou is probably my favorite bakery. It does not matter what you get from their bakery, it will be fantastic. Their drinks are solid but not the star here. It is definitely worth the trip, and adjoining Blagden Alley is cool to walk through too.

If you're from Europe and missing fresh, quality bread and European baked sweets, this is the right place for you! There is quite a line and especially during covid where they only allow one person inside at a time, get ready to wait a bit. However, it's worth the wait because the food is very good. The croissant i got was whole wheat, super crispy and flakey on the outside and super soft and gentle on the inside. The asparagus pesto mozzarella Danish was also great if you're into something savory. However they change their menu everyday so be in for a surprise. The iced teas were really refreshing. I got the floral blend iced and it was great for such a hot summer day.

The savory danishes are delicious! The chocolate croissant French toast is reason enough to sleep in (only available after 9:30a). Great coffee too. Definitely worth waiting in line!

I cannot visit DC without stopping at Seylou Bakery! The chocolate croissants are the BEST and the bread is Amazing! You have to have a matcha latte' w/ oat milk before leaving ... The inside gives one the feeling of serenity , abd a hope for peace in the world. I wish I could go everyday.

So, I have blood sugar issues. I cannot eat any carb heavy food/bread EXCEPT the bread here! Which is SO exciting for me! Their Pain Levain is the *only* bread I've eaten outside of Europe that doesn't spike my blood sugar. I couldn't understand why and then read up on sough dough bread being better for blood sugar spikes (who knew!). But it needs to be 'real' sough dough bread done in the traditional fashion. That is exactly what you'll find here. Their bread is rustic, delicious, and feels so nutritious. This is the only bakery in DC that is the real deal for this bread. I buy it every weekend at our local farmer's market and freeze a bunch of loaves sliced. May they no ever close! Thank you for all your hard work and the amazing products you make! You are a real treasure to the DC metro area

A review of words doesn't really do this place justice. Jonathan and Jessica give attention to detail in the food, the space, and the purpose of the whole bakery. this place stems from a care for people and a mission to nourish. just sit there for a bit and have a chat with anyone that's a part of the team and you'll quickly find out this endeavor isn't just about pastry or baking. although some of the best bakery items I've tasted in dc 🥲
