Morris American Bar

Came here for a midweek happy hour and the drinks were fantastic. They were flavorful and strong. The place is cozy and perfect for a small gathering or a date. The bartenders were very kind and the service was prompt. They take their time with the drinks because they come out looking amazing. Perfect for those Instagram posts. Also, this may be a weird observation, but the bathrooms were so incredibly clean! To me that says a lot about any establishment. The bar is close to great restaurant options so you should definitely stop by here for a pre or post dinner drink.

Had such a great experience here with my friend. We came for their Christmas holiday pop up bar. The customer service was amazing and so were the drinks. Highly recommend visiting this location.

I let our server know I preferred gin and he was happy to have me name a drink or create one based on my preferences. Would recommend and enjoy returning!"

A few friends and I stopped here on a Saturday night after dinner at Kinship and weren't disappointed. Everything we ordered was creative and well-balanced, no false notes.

Amazing bar with great cocktails. Haven’t had any food, but the drinks are fantastic. The bartenders know their stuff, and we ordered both on menu and off menu and everything was excellent (Doug was great). The bar is cozy and has a very cool vibe (we also liked the playlist). It is our new go to bar for pre or post dinner drinks since there are some great restaurants in the area.

Morris is without a doubt an absolute gem of a cocktail bar and my personal favorite. The bartenders are not only inventive but also thoroughly well-versed in classics and contemporary drinks. You can tell the whole team is proud of their bar, and it really shows. The seasonal menu is their own impressive creation, but make no mistake, they gladly take requests and offer new suggestions.

Inside is a time capsule of a classic bar. The colors, décor, lighting, music – it is the perfect place for relaxing drinks. Outside is shaded and casual, exactly what you want for a group of friends.

Other bars even the often lauded “Bests in DC” have fallen short of what Morris is consistently doing here in terms of quality, knowledge, skill, and service. You get way more than what you pay for here. As amazing as it all is, it is not at all stuffy. Everybody is friendly, easygoing, and enjoys what they are doing.

This review is long overdue and could not be more well deserved. Morris often surprises, never disappoints, and after all their extra hard work during the pandemic, I cannot wait to sit at the actual bar again. Until then, cheers!

A Surprise place...

It was hard to find the entrance. But once found.
We were greeted quickly, and everyone was friendly. The restaurant has a unique cozy vibe.
The bartender suggested items to our liking. It was off the menu cocktail. It turned out to be one of the best old-fashioned I had. I will be visiting again with my friends to have the OLD FASHIONED.

Morris American Bar isn't what you expect. It's literally inside the sterile looking Convention Center so it's easy to miss the door when walking by. However, once inside it's anything but boring. It's the perfect little cocktail bar.

They have several rooms for dining and a long bar for those of us wanting a drink. It's a very casual classy place with beautiful wallpaper giving it Gatsby style (you know, from the book The Great Gatsby).

The bartenders are friendly and know what they are doing. In addition to wine, beer, and cider, they have a great seasonal cocktail menu that often changes. Each drink is $12 (not bad for a quality drink in DC) and it's $2 off until 7pm for happy hour. I went with the bartender's choice and had an excellent drink.

If you want a classy chill happy hour spot with beautiful atmosphere, head to Morris American Bar. It's in Mt Vernon Square so there are plenty of other excellent dinner spots to go to afterwards (I recommend the Kinship!).

I go here the nights I know I need a guarantee I won’t be disappointed… …and Morris never disappoints. Cocktails made right every time. Rhine and Rita anew a cocktail dynamic duo. Recommend to anyone.

Pretty cool place to sit and have a drink after work! Great Cocktails and I had a pretty pretty delicious sandwich. When you go have Doug make your drinks!

Stopped by for a brief happy hour. Couldn't drink much but the server/hosts were very kind to me and were attentive to others in the place. I thought it was a pretty cute small venue.

Excellent drinks! I’m very picky and I ask for complex drinks and tweaks like less sweet or spirit forward. The bartenders delivered and delivered well. They were stiff when it came to interpersonal interaction... truly great bartenders give personalized attention to people sitting at the bar even though they’re making drinks for the entire restaurant. Maybe they will ascend to this level one day... until then they have to settle for being judged by their excellent drinks! (We did not eat food; so, N/A stars on food)

Solid spot with solid drinks — menu changes often. Glad it survived the great Covid exodus from this area. Looked nice, humming and busy on a recent visit. One recommendation: lose the plastic cups for water.

Excellent service and drinks. Galvin did a great job with my "make me a fancy gin tonic" and hubby enjoyed his drinks as well. Cute space inside for a drink or two.

Good experience. We did the Halloween special & the drinks were good.

We both got 3 drinks each & they were great. Our favorite was Noche de sueno & dia de muertos.

Food menu were also limited. We got the devil eggs & they were good.

Our favorite cocktail joint in town! The drinks are top-notch and reasonably-priced. We’ve been to other “good” places that charged $16 for a to-go cup. Morris beats that in so many aspects and it never disappoints.

Everyone works there are super nice and knowledgeable. Doug, Ian and Rhine are skillful bartenders who can fix you up with almost any requests.

They usually have seasonal cocktail menus and recently added low & non-alcohol drinks which is perfect for a person like me who can’t drink too much. I got Strawberry Kitty last time and it’s sooo good! If you want something refreshing, you NEED to get it!

Please support their business. They work hard to stay afloat while continue to innovate great drinks during this difficult time.

What a wonderful surprise - this place is not only open late but absolutely delivers such a great vibe and care for those who attend Rita was my bartender both of the nights we went and was absolutely fantastic - her and her partner work there and deliver from the heart and and with care - the food is good too but the ambiance, the energy and the love within this busy space is awesome - we will be back and happy to continue to frequent this space. Thank you for everything.

We enjoyed some craft cocktails here during a recent visit to DC. This bar has laid back vibes & a cozy ambiance. It was not too crowded when we were there. Love the interiors, very thoughtful in the details. The paint color (slate blue) with floral accents adds a unique design. Bartenders were friendly. Will visit again for HH!

Amazing bar... for first date, second and third, after work with friends, for any occasion... is the perfect excuse to get amazing drinks

Areas of improvement: food/snacks menu.

Heading to Kinship for dinner, we decided to explore this bar; it was just a good experience. The bartender (Ryan) was just amazing. He suggested a cocktail that was out of the menu and it was really tasty.

The bar is cosy, not pretentious, service is great. Around $13 per cocktail, using good liquor, fairly cheap for DC prices.

Excellent for a date or having good talk with friends.

The owner of Morris owns Shepard, the famous DC speakeasy.
