It's a Latin American Wines shop. Was there for an Uruguayan wine tasting. Absolutely fascinating variety of good wines from Uruguay. Make sure to get a bottle of Uruguayan wine, you won't regret it. Just keep in mind that if you try the Tannat (which is the traditional/national sort of wine of Uruguay) which has a rich complex of flavors with a strong juicy acidity, that's because in Uruguay they usually drink it with steaks and meat in general, which balances the flavors. Otherwise, they produce almost all kinds of known common wines aside from Tannat. Grand Cata has a unique collection of not only Uruguayan wines, but from other Latin countries like Chile, and Argentina. Super friendly staff and very friendly vibe, they also sell other products to compliment wine 🍷 like Spanish jamon, olives 🫒 and other appetizers.

My favorite place to buy wine in DC. They have unusual Latin based wines that are a nice treat away from the old world classics that flood the DC market. Go expo something new. The staff are very helpful and easy talk to about their passion.

Latin wine-focused shop with a large selection of alcoholic beverages, non-alcoholic drinks, food, and gifts. They have a fantastic monthly wine club and are always pouring free tastings of featured wines and holding fun events. A neighborhood gem with friendly staff...you can’t miss it!

Fantastic wine selection and staff are super knowledgeable!

Cliff and his team put together an awesome wine tasting experience with a great charcuterie board. We tasted three types of wine that matched perfectly with some cheese, jamón serrano, and canned sardines. We tried this for San Valentine’s Day, but I believe they’re organizing this for other ocasiones as well. Highly recommended, and thanks for a lovely evening!

One of my favorite wine stores. I live in Leesburg, VA and still make the drive to this store. Their wines are not just from Latin America. They have a great selection from Spain too. And not just wines! After visiting Spain I fell in love with vermouth and Grand Cata has a great selection of them. They also have a limited selection of food to purchase.
Everyone is super friendly and knowledgeable. They also have a wine club you can join. I highly recommend this place!

Lovely wine shop with a beautiful variety of South American wines, went to a tasting with some friends and it was well worth it. They even give you ten percent off on bottles you buy the same day if you schedule and pay for a tasting! We split the bill and it wound up being about 25 bucks a person. The tasting was amazing, he walked us through tasting steps, history of the wines, told us about the regions and vinters, and what kinds of flavors to look for.

If you love vermouth, they also have an extensive selection! This shop has a bit more than just wine, so definitely take a look if you're in the neighborhood.

What a cool wine shop! As soon as I walked through the doors I was greeted by a couple people who were eager to give me a run down of all their wines - separated by European and American wines. Their choices are expansive but still understandable and they're so helpful with picking a fun choice. Their price range is probably $15 and up so this isn't a spot to come for a casual and easy wine, but you'll be very happy with what you get here.

Awesome selection of (predominantly Latin American) wines. You'll be able to find interesting and unique bottles. Knowledgeable and friendly staff will help with your picks and all-in-all a great addition to DC. Highly recommend.

Beautiful and bright shop in Shaw that offers a wide variety of interesting and unique wines as well as beer and liquor.

I say unique because the owners are very passionate about their products and each visit is a learning experience into the background and intricacies of the wines sold.

This is reinforced by the daily tastings offered, where I have tried many wines that I would not even think to buy or have been exposed to.

All in all, a very enjoyable experience and a wonderful addition to the Shaw neighborhood.

Great wine shop! The staff are excellent at helping you navigate the incredible selection they have. Never left the shop feeling as if I paid more than I wanted, and always enjoyed the bottle when we got it home.

Stopped in while in D.C. for work specifically looking for beer from the Nicaragua Craft Beer Co. and I left with not 1 but 2 cases and 6 bottles of wine! The owner was the nicest guy and the cashier went above and beyond to help me! If you do well with a lot of options and like to learn about your wine, this is the place for you! I’ll be back!

My fiancé and I don't live in the area but we walk the 2 miles every other week or so to buy some bottles. They have a great selection at every price point. The staff is so knowledgable, friendly, and you can tell they are passionate about their jobs--it makes me that much more excited to try whatever they recommend! I will continue to shout this store's praises to everyone I know, it deserves it!

I love a wine shop that has a focus instead of a general selection. Grand Cata does everything they can to share wonderful Latin wine with you. Great, curated selection and an incredibly knowledgeable and passionate team. You can always trust that the bottle they help you choose will be right for the occasion. It is awesome to see businesses like this thriving in Shaw.

As soon as I walked into this store I was given a quick tour of the wines. Once I saw that they had the wine I was looking for, the owner/staff member quickly showed me to other wines by the same producer. Everyone was friendly and SUPER helpful. I will definitely be back!

I was drawn to Grand Cata when researching a local place to buy (and try) natural wines. This place really surprised me (in a good way), not only with a solid variety of naturals, (which are hard to find) but also with a well curated selection of wines from all over Latin America (both new and old world - so from Spain and Portugal, to Mexico, Peru, and more).

We went in on a Sunday afternoon, and found the two men working to be super knowledgable, and really enjoyed the samples they offered, allowing us to taste some of the bottles before we bought. Ended up leaving with 6 bottles, trying some grapes I haven't tried before bit that came highly recommended and stocking up on some California wines, as well.

My favorite wine store in DC. They have interesting wines and always make stellar recommendations. Make sure to try their vermouth. A selection of accoutrements and sundries, too! The service is always great.
