This small building down an alley with a few other restaurants is unique. There are two restaurants in the same building. Causa (downstairs) is a Michelin-starred restaurant and the talk of the town. Not to be overshadowed, Amazonia upstairs (with a roof terrace) is accessible and exceptional.

I will admit that when we were shown to our
table, and it was outside on the roof terrace. I was confused and concerned as there was no mention of “outdoors” in my reservation, but it was okay. Two of the people at my party are usually always cold, and no one complained, so in the end, it worked out great. We did enjoy being in a corner, too, but the sofa is deep, so it’s not like sitting in a chair, and when you recline, you go back, so pay with your coupe glass.

We decided to have a little of everything and started with a snack of INGUIRI NIGIRI, a plantain with pork tallow, cured meat, and chimichurri. We then ordered Anticucheria, which are basically skewers. We tried the pork belly, chicken thighs, shrimp, and Brussels sprouts. The sprouts were not my favorite, nor were the shrimp, but the chicken and the pork were excellent.

Because everything comes out when the kitchen sends it, there is no coursing, and you are best off if you share everything.

Next
Came the ceviche. We were four people, so we ordered two. CEBICHE NIKKEI- tuna, soy, ponzu, avocado, red onion, cilantro. This was pretty basic, but the CEBICHE CLÁSICO was super classic and fabulous, made with white fish and choclo (Peruvian corn all in Leche de Tigre. Yum!

Now we are feeling groovy with two mains coming next Lomo Saltado, the classic beef dish sautéed in a wok with vegetables and Asian flavors served with potatoes and rice, and the pulpo al Jospar, which is a unique take on octopus and potato in a way that is totally unique, and tender and delicious.

Lastly, we needed to top everything off with dessert, but since I am not a sweet person, I ordered the Scallop a la Parmesan, a MUST, and a piece of chocolate cake (which I didn’t try).

I forgot to mention we ordered pisco cocktails, but I don’t remember which, and we moved on to wine. It's so hard to say, but they all tasted great. If you order wine, get the bottle; the pour I received when I ordered a glass went quickly, if you get my drift.

All in all, this place is exceptional. You will pay for the pleasure, but it’s worth it.

I was brought here for my birthday, and what a surprise! The food, stellar! They use a Jasper oven that gives the fish a wonderful combination of char and smoke. The staff is warm and inviting. The way they rotate their staff to come around and explain the dishes and wine, makes it feel like you’ve been attended to by everyone working. Cocktails were perfectly balanced, each had a unique presentation. There were a variety of add-ons to the tasting courses as well that showcase their dry aged fish. I can’t recommend this place this place enough!

Bonus points: One of the chefs also let me try an aji charapita pepper that was used in one of the passion fruit desserts.

Wow Causa/Amazonia really lived up to the hype. I went with my husband this past weekend while visiting DC for NYE.

Our drinks were fantastic and the food impeccable. I love Peruvian food and am an Ecuadorian immigrant so seeing our cultural cuisine through the C/A lens in fine dining was just inspiring. You can tell the restaurant is a cohesive concept and the food made with love. It was interesting, fresh, authentic and yummy!

We had 4 different types of cocktails (mine were the blood orange pisco sour and Amazonia pisco sour soooo good!), the cebiche, 4 types of the anticuchera, the maduros, a Jasmin rice and chorizo dish, and their signature desert. Everything was delicious. We ate at Gravitas the next day for twice the price and it wasn’t even half as good! Can’t wait to come back!

Food was excellent! The service was amazing. There were many people who worked for each table. They are very knowledgeable about the food and drinks. You have to make a reservation. The rooftop schedule is released 7 days in advance. So you won’t see it available if you plan more than 7 days in advance. I will definitely go back and try different dishes next time.

Amazing spot. We ate upstairs at Amazonia however definitely going to try Causa downstairs next time. They have really amazing cocktails, there’s an option to choose your fish and have half prepared as Ceviche or one of the other cold app options and the other half warm. The pulpo was also excellent, skewers were great, service was impeccable, the manager Alex also came by to make sure things were going well. 100% recommend, will be back.

Amazing food. The chef has clearly put a significant amount of thought and time into preparing these dishes to give you a perfect tasting of Peruvian/Amazonian cuisine. My wife and I did the tasting menu + dry aged tuna dish- everything was perfect and the tuna was unbelievable. Absolutely recommend to anyone looking for perfectly cooked fish. The staff were knowledgeable and friendly. The chef even came to thank us and ask our opinion at the end of our dinner.

Finally made it to Causa/Amazonia and let me tell you...It was amazing. We ate upstairs at Bar Amazonia and from the moment you walk in you're met with an ambiance reminiscent of rain forest vibes with a contemporary twist. It's beautiful and vibrant.

Now let's get into the food and drinks. I started off with the Vino Andino. It was delicious and refreshing gin-based cocktail. For an appetizer we shared the Peruvian Scallops a la Parmesana. Hands down some of the best scallops I ever had in my life! They cooked perfectly with a smoky undertone. The parmesan cheese on top was the perfect touch. The chicken wing 'cecina' was also delicious. We also enjoyed the brussel sprout and filet mignon antichuchos (skewers). Everything up to this point so far was amazing.

For the main entree we both had the lomo saltado (American wagyu). The combination of soy, onion and tomato broth was perfect. Chef's kiss!

Lastly for dessert we had the Chocolucuma (chocolate cake). The lucuma ice cream topped on the chocolate cake slice was the perfect pairing. This was such a great experience. Can't wait to come back for Causa's tasting menu.

This place is a 10/10
I visited during a brief trip to DC and it just so happened to be restaurant week. The meal was beautiful, the dessert was amazing, saying the drinks were fantastic is an understatement and the service was impeccable. Everyone was super warm, accommodating and seemed like they enjoyed what they were doing. Hands down coming back if I'm ever in the area.

Service is fantastic, and food stands up to the hype! Classics are lomo saltado and ceviche. The bean mousse dessert was delicious. Drinks were delicious and I feel like you can't go wrong with the server's recommendations.

The restaurant had a somewhat unique and "weird" vibe, which might not be to everyone's taste, but the good customer service helped make up for it. The staff was attentive and friendly, ensuring a pleasant dining experience.

However, one aspect that I found a bit underwhelming was the portion size. Despite the small portions, the food itself was undeniably delicious. The flavors and quality of the dishes were top-notch, which certainly added to the overall enjoyment of the meal. If you're a food enthusiast looking for a unique culinary experience, the taste alone might make up for the portion size.

One thing that stood out positively was the relaxed atmosphere. If you're looking for a place to unwind and enjoy a leisurely meal, Causa Amazonia offers a welcoming environment.

In conclusion, Causa Amazonia provides a unique dining experience with a slightly unconventional vibe. While the portion size and pricing may not be the most generous, the delicious food and relaxed atmosphere can still make it a worthwhile choice for those seeking a different culinary adventure.

I mean i get why Causa/Amazonia, was crowned this year's New Restaurant of the Year. It offers a tantalizing Peruvian dining experience. Chef and co-owner Carlos Delgado's culinary haven spans two levels, featuring a beautiful refined fine dining restaurant on the first floor with a multi-course tasting menu and a more relaxed second-level bar and restaurant named Amazonia. On a rainy night I had the pleasure of having an exceptional server, Sophia, who provided spot-on recommendations. The Ocopa cocktail, a delightful blend of Italia pisco, huacatay, elderflower, hierba luisa, and clarified citrus, proved irresistibly smooth. Pairing this with savory patacones and the delicious anticucherias added a delightful depth to my culinary adventure. However, as tempting as it was, I restrained myself from multiple rounds, ensuring I wouldn't wake up there the next day. The decor is exceptional and on a rainy night, it can be quite cozy.

Just make sure you give yourself extra time to find the location which is a little off putting that the entrance is in an alley but atleast it wasnt dark and creepy.

The food was absolutely delicious! Very flavorful and I love that the menu had options that werent starch heavy. You will spend a pretty penny here but its worth it!

Party of two dined at Amazonia on a weekend night.
The cocktails were a stand-out for me - well-balanced flavors, each with its own unique flair.
Our server, Benjamin, was wonderful. He provided helpful descriptions of the menu items and was overall fantastic.
The staff were clearly well-organized and attentive.
The dishes were tasty; no complaints.
Ambiance was excellent.
Yes, it's a pricey meal, but considering the entire dining experience it was worthwhile.

Causa delivers a fusion of modern aesthetics and authentic Peruvian Amazonian flavors. The chic ambiance, adorned with subtle jungle vibes and beautiful art, sets the stage for a memorable dining experience. The staff's professionalism adds to the overall charm.

The PATARASHCA fish, featuring mishkina, red onion, sacha culantro, and patacones, showcased a delightful combination of textures and flavors. The CEBICHE AMAZONIA brought a burst of freshness with its fish, lime, charapita, sacha culantro, and plantain medley.

For appetizers, the grilled LA ANTICUCHERÍA mushroom, steak, and Brussels provided a savory prelude. The PATACONES with plantain, mushrooms, and heart of palm added a unique twist.

My standout favorite, the PERUVIAN BAY SCALLOPS, the six scallops, complemented by aji amarillo anticuchera sauce and parmesan cheese, presented a harmonious blend that earned the venue a well-deserved Michelin star.

Amazonia was incredible in every way. Every dish blew us away! And Benjamin is the best server we've had since the pandemic. Highly recommend the maduritos appetizer (we'll each get one next time), the cebiche clásico, and the A Lo Pobre. Of course the pisco sours are perfect too. What a delightful dining experience! Can't wait to go back.

What a great experience!!! Gabriel our waiter was one of the best waiters I've ever had in my life! He was knowledgeable about the entire menu, (we asked a lot of questions) attentive but never bothered us. It is incredible to see a waiter feel so happy to work in a place! The food 10/10 creative dishes with fantastic flavors, their cocktails were also up to par. Definitely a great Peruvian restaurant that deserves a Michelin star

The experience was amazing. The staff was genuine and wanted to make sure you had a great time. Our waiter Benjamin was the best and his recommendations were amazing. The scallops, ceviche, skewers (salmon belly, chicken thighs & filet), the drinks, all amazing. My 14 year old daughter cried because the food and drinks was that good.
Note: she does not like seafood but now she does, At least at Causa !!! Lastly, I don’t write reviews but I had to after this experience
