I would like to leave a review for the exceptional services of Benjamin. We represent a family with heirs across the country, none who knew if plots were owned by their family members, or in which family member’s names they were purchased. I gave Benny a partial name with lots of misspelling of one person interred in a plot. He took that name, along with several “suggested” names of owners and went to work. Not only was he delightful to work with, but his efficiency and hard work found the plots owned by our client’s family members dating back 81 years. He was thorough, exact, and charming to work with. He was pleasant in every way and went above and beyond to find the information I needed. Great work Benny! It was great to become a telephone acquaintance with you.

On Nov 30, 2023 we visited our family graves at Cedar Hill. Three of the four flush to the ground stones had sunk over the years. After visiting our family plot we stopped in the office and spoke with Kevin Rivers about the possibility of getting the three raised to level with the ground. We shared pictures with Kevin and he put in a work order. Our home is in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. On Dec 5, 2023 Regenia Bell e-mailed us with pictures of the three raised grave stones. We thanked Kevin, Regenia, and all the folks at Cedar Hill Cemetery who raised the three grave stones of our family members. Our nine family members and their families sincerely thank Cedar Hill's commitment to excellence and actions in their rapid response to our request.

My sister and I worked with Mrs Matthews at Cedar Hill. She was patient, knowledgeable, showed so much empathy. My sister and I can’t articulate or emphasize the service which was exemplary. There are not enough words to explain. We are so thankful.

I was helped and assured by the most wonderful woman name Pearl. She answered all my questions and followed up with me to make sure everything was in order.
She went above and beyond to help me sort thru things expected and unexpected.
I have also purchased my plot there to be close to my mother and father when the time comes, if you have a loved one or are planning your own journey I highly recommend you ask for Pearl so that she can assist and guide you the way she helped me navigate thru it all anc continued to take initiative to follow up with me . Thankyou again Pearl. You are a gem just as your name suggests!

After reading the reviews on this page, I really did not want to use Cedar Hill Cemetary, but my husband's grandmother bought cemetery plots there for her and the family in the late 1940's. My husband has multiple family members buried there and his parents want to be there as well, so in meeting their wishes, he and I went there today to make the arrangements for them, so when they pass, we won't have to figure all of this out then. Pearl was who helped him on the phone to verify the ownership of the plots and helped him with all of that and quickly set up today's meeting. Today she met with us and went through everything we needed to know in order to make the final arrangements for the burial of my in-laws when the time comes. She was unbelievably customer service oriented, knowledgeable and spent as much time with us as we needed and did not rush us through the process. She answered questions and volunteered information at times about things we would have never thought about. She is amazing and if the entire process continues as the experience we had today, all will be fine. If she told us once, she told us at least 3 times how to complain/file a complaint with the State regulators if we were not happy with the service. We also noticed that the cemetery just looked better in general and appeared to be more maintained and manicured. Multiple dead trees had been removed, it appeared the roads in the cemetery were in better shape than they had been and some of the buildings on the ground were under construction-repair. She also mentioned having a new general manager at the facility. I was very pleased with the service and experience we had today. I always am willing to put a review up for businesses when I think the service is poor, so I am very glad to be able to post this positive experience today. THANK YOU, Pearl!

Cedar Hill Cemetery is where some of our family members have been laid to rest. Most recently, our sister. The staff was courteous at every turn. Pearl O’Neill-Barnett was our counselor and we are very pleased with her and the services received.

I have to compliment the professionalism and dedication of the staff who assisted me today. The gentleman in the office took a great deal of time to explain thoroughly where my friend's grave could be found. He offered to have an employee take me there but I wanted to try to find it myself.
As it turned out, the Superintendent, Jason, ultimately ended up assisting me in locating the foot stone. Despite 90+ degree heat, he worked on clearing and then cleaning up the stone. It looks great and is now much easier to spot. I so appreciate the time and attention spent. It is hard to put into words how much this has meant to me.

Benjamin (Bennie) was very helpful in helping me right before closing to find out family member’s plot location on her birthday. Visiting the cemetery is a very emotional experience and having caring and attentive staff attend to one’s need in this space makes all the difference. Thank you Mr. Bennie for ensuring our experience was seamless.

I’d like to take a moment to say thank you for the office staff and the manager Charles Smith were taking the time to get back with me very promptly the concerns of my mothers headstone and I’m also happy to tell you that he went out of his way on March 1, 2024 to call me and share with me and also send a picture to me that my mother‘s new headstone was placed . I have been through a lot they at the cemetery. My mother and her parents All laid there to rest. I’m very happy that everything worked out and again I cannot say thank you enough each and everyone of them.
It’s also very nice to see something positive happening at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Thanks again & God Bless 🙏🏻

Cedar Hill Cemetery is a massive cemetery steps from the Washington, D.C.-Maryland border in southeast DC. It's seems a little run down for a cemetery, but if you're an adventure seeker/explorer, you'll love this place. Here's why:

1) History: It's a historic cemetery with the oldest tombstone dating back to 1871. There's also a mass grave for the 45-50 people killed in the Terra Cotta train wreck in 1906.

2) Buildings: There are several interesting buildings on the grounds, including a handful of mausoleums. The first building upon entering is the funeral home with a beautiful sanctuary building for services. In the middle of the grounds is a somewhat hidden mausoleum that looks like an old European monastery. There's an abandoned stone chapel attached to it. There is a white building in ruins on the grounds adding to the mystique.

3) Quirks: In addition to the unique tombstones there are a few quirky structures on the grounds. Between 1936 and 1938, a Mexican artists built two footbridges, a bench, a hollow tree, and a whispering chair all out of faux wood (it's concrete, but looks like wood). It's fun to stumble upon them as you explore.

4) Size: It's a large property that bleeds into two other cemeteries- Washington National Cemetery and Lincoln Memorial Cemetery. It will take you hours to explore all three. Most of the property is on a hill that overlooks the city.

The cemetery has roads throughout and some are smooth. Be warned there are lots of geese in the cemetery in case you're scared of birds.

Mrs. Carmelita has always been such a professional with assisting me with anything I bring to her attention. I have lost multiple family members since meeting Carmelita and she has always been helpful, graceful, and understanding to my family needs during our hard times of loosing loved ones. Although some things could be tremendously improved with the main offices responses to the fixings of our loved ones plots, there are some who work there that are excellent with customer services such as Mrs. Carmelita.
