My favorite Indian spot in the 518. The owner is one of the nicest business owners I’ve ever met. The food is authentic and has consistently been incredible every time for the past decade I’ve been going. It’s also nice that they are, as far as I know, the only Indian restaurant offering vegan-friendly naan as long as you order it unbuttered. I was sad when they were forced to leave their Clinton Ave location, but their new spot in the old church is spacious and cozy, albeit hidden from the outside.

My go-to is their aloo chana! The veggie samosas are also excellent.

One of most satisfying and most engaging meal we have ever had. The very very nice hosts made the otherwise perfect meal a memorable one.
It's a bit hidden but the venue is lovely, spacious restaurant with good Indian food and great hosts.

Ordered from Taj Mahal tonight. Normally will order through grub hub but went to pick it up myself. There was an issue with the order as 2 orders of garlic naan were forgotten. The owner immediately took ownership and had the issue rectified within just a few minutes. He was extremely apologetic and offered me a free drink while they made fresh naan. Had a chance to chat with him and he clearly cares about his business and its history in the region. After a nice chat, free bottle of water, and a complementary side of rice pudding, I went home with my dinner. Everything was delicious as always. We will continue to be repeat customers of Taj Mahal. A+ customer service and delicious food!!

I went here when we were on our way to Niagara falls. I didn't expect much but to my surprise food was really amazing. I would say one should try all the vegeterian menu in here and we loved everything we ordered.

First of all, the food was wonderful. As great, authentic Indian food as you'll find anywhere in the Capital Region. Second, the proprietor, Waheed, was absolutely charming and if you hear the story of his life and business, you'll definitely want to come back and support his business. Truly a diamond in the rough.

Best Indian food in the area. The owner is so so so nice, so accommodating, and is understanding of different dietary restrictions and choices (vegan, gluten-free) G/F Vegan, Vegetarian options clearly marked on the menu.

The food was amazingly good!!! I have eaten at other Indian buffet in the area but I have to say, this place is a Hidden Gem!!

The food is fresh and the service is the best. The owner even gave my daughter a free mango lassi. She Loved It!!!

My favorite thing was the curry chicken (magnific!!) Its the most savory, a bit spicy but not too much. I don't like it too spicy so it was just right for me. I would definitely recommend this restaurant

Tonight we celebrated a special family birthday dinner with takeout from the beautiful Taj Mahal restaurant. Each dish was spiced to perfection, with large portions that left us stuffed and satisfied. There was just enough left for a nice midnight snack. We had ginger chicken, lamb curry, chicken vindaloo, lamb biryani, and chicken tikka masala, along with several samosas, naan, and plenty of basmati rice. We loved the wonderful cuisine from this majestic church building in historic Schenectady. The chef was also charming and kind, greeting us cheerfully as we ordered and picked up our meals. We are planning to go back again soon for another special meal from The Taj Mahal Restaurant!!!

I had such a great experience dining at the Taj Mahal. The food was wonderful. The owner, staff, and even other patrons were so friendly and made you feel welcome. I will definitely be going back in the future!

I can't say enough how lovely my boyfriend and I's experience was here today. We have been traveling for a few days beforehand, and were pleasantly surprised to find that there was an Indian restaurant near the Amtrak station. The food was tasty, affordable, and overall a great value. The service was really what stood out and made me want to review it, though. The owner (I think) was extremely hospitable and kind, and started us off with some free tea which I thought was a really nice touch. No one hovered over us (a pet peeve of mine), but the service was quick, and the waitress was cheerful. The owner was very personable, making small talk about our travels and even gave us some bottles of water and bananas for free for the last leg of our journey. Overall, great experience and will be coming back the next time we're in town!

Unassuming decor, reasonable prices, excellent food! We stopped in for a quick dinner before the show at Proctor's Theater and will definitely be back. The vegetable samosas were exquisitely spiced, the lamb curry flavorful and rich, and the rice cooked to perfection. The nan was freshly baked with slightly toasted edges.

One if THE BEST Indian & Vegetarian eateries in our area. Family owned & operated by , (as I lovingly call them, Mommy & Papi.) Cook to order, I take out weekly. To be concise I would say, " The the food is cooked as if your Indian mother made it for you." A MUST TRY! Yummy & healthy. 💜😘

Owner is so helpful and considerate which i can't even express in word. I want to share my experience, I wanted to deliver food on my brother's birthday on off time when restaurant is not open. They just did not accommodate time but made timely delivery and also notify once completed. My brother enjoyed the food. It was very delicious and he was keep praising. I ordered vegetables , naan and desert. Everything exceed expectation/

If you live in Schenectady, you have to try the Taj Mahal! I've lived here my whole life and I wished I stopped in sooner. I was greeted by this super nice lady, wish I had gotten her name. I ordered the Plain Naan with the yogurt sauce and the Lamb Curry. I decided to stay and wait for my food. We had a really nice conversation and 15 minutes felt like 5 minutes, and my food was already done. It smelled amazing through the bag! I've had great Indian food before, but this topped it, for sure. The naan was soft and hot, the yogurt sauce was awesome and had sweet onion in it. The rice was cooked just right and the curry sauce was de-li-cious. Creamy and savory, not too spicy, but that's okay! The big chunks of lamb were so tender and juicy. I'm not exaggerating when I tell you I scraped the bowl clean. Can't wait to try their other dishes and their lunch buffet in near future! Thanks for the wonderful meal!!

My first time eating at Taj Mahal Restaurant today, and it was amazing. I had the somosa chat, garlic naan, and the best lamb biryani I've ever had! Even the yogurt sauce was delicious. I would highly recommend eating here. Right now they are located in the basement of a church so keep your eyes open for a large light-colored brick building, and they are located in the basement.

This has been one of my best experiences and an Indian buffet for lunch. the dining room was quite empty and it gave me and the owner ample time to talk and get to know each other. On character alone I enjoyed my stop here. As far as the food goes I I loved every single dish that they had. But by far my favorite was the saag paneer. I am quite partial to any paneer dish but my go-to is generally a butter chicken or a tikka masala. If I lived out here I would be here everyday for lunch it only cost $9.

The food is delicious and the hospitality even better. Weather vegetarian or meat dishes, all winners. My wife and I love to come whenever we can. If you are interested in a sample there is always a table at the farmers market, both inside Proctors in cold weather and outside by city hall in warmer weather.
