Good modern hotel in the best location in Washington, DC!
We stayed there for three nights during the spring break with our family of three. Yes, we shared one room, but the bed is very big to fit all three of us (including 10 years old daughter).
The room is clean and has everything we needed. We enjoyed playing around with tablet remote :) The one huge minus: terribly uncomfortable stupidly high pillows, it is impossible to sleep on them!!
The buffet breakfast was really nice, fresh coffee and plenty of good healthy(and not) food options. And did I tell you about location! It is perfect!! Three minutes away from the National mall, the Capitol, walking distance to many great restaurants and museums.
Overall, I recommend this place! Don’t forget to bring your own pillow ;)

Stayed for 2 nights. The room looked very clean and modern.
The matters and pillows felt new and fluffy. Sheets smelled nice and clean and I had a very good rest.
Not a noisy location but had a train passing few times and I could hear it.
There was an issue with water pressure ...There was barely any water coming out of the faucet.
Service wise they do not have room service but they will bring you extra blankets, pillows, etc. Food and refreshments are open downstairs 24/7 and you have to go get them yourself.
Breakfast will cost you $20 but its worth the trouble.

I happen upon citizenM on one of my trips to DC last year. My first impression was how much better can it get? I had done a serious amount of walking in appropriate footwear. after a long day, and needing to have dinner, I could barely walk. When I came back to the hotel for the night, the staff went and got me first aid materials to wrap up my heel and put walking shoes on to go out for dinner.

I’ve now stayed in DC at the mall and Boston. The amenities and staff are always the same and great service with a fantastic smile.

The primary difference has been the amenities at the breakfast bar, I highly recommend you include your room, right or go grab it because the food is fantastic for the breakfast bar. As a vegan, I have plenty of options for healthy food that I can eat, and your standard fair is always available.

Give them a try at your next trip!

This is a super fun and trendy hotel in a perfect location directly south of the national mall and super close to the main metro station for DC. The rooms are small, but cozy for two people who like to be close to each other. The beds are super comfortable. The room is high on technology and super fun. I would definitely stay here again and probably will anytime I come to the area. I really enjoyed my stay.

Stayed here for a couple nights on a trip.

- the building and rooms are new and have a very modern feel. Everything is clean and in a good shape.
- as others have commented, the rooms are tiny, yet very functional. If you are traveling with kids this is probably not the best place to stay at, but for a couple it would work out very well.
- location is great: tons of attractions and museums nearby. The only downside I can think of is that the majority of nice restaurants are a bit far.

One of our favorite hotels!! I love the simplicity and high-tech feel of the rooms! I loved that the bed was a huge square and felt nestled in, with the walls and the huge window on one side. Some people note you have to crawl over someone else, but I didn’t mind and since the bed is square, you could always change it to have the pillows towards the windows. Loved the iPad controls too. I also really liked the abundance of communal spaces, it reminded us of hostels in Europe! The gym is also so pretty, clean, spacious, and well-equipped. On top of all that, great value, and amazing location - very quiet and safe area, and one block from the metro!

Super cool hotel to stay in while exploring the national mall. Very clean with interesting design and decor. The entire process from check-in to checkout is done through technology. Parking is free if you can find space in front of the hotel. If not, there is a paid public parking next to the hotel building.
For under a $100/night, citizen M exceeded my expectations.
Loved the breakfast and lunch too at Canteen M.

Very fun, trendy hotel in a fabulous location in DC. A few minutes walk to Mall and an easy Uber ride from Union Station. Unique, new hotel concept that is exciting and “works”. Loved the fast and easy check in / check out and being able to avoid the disingenuous ‘hospitality” of a traditional hotel. Rooms were comfortable and extremely quiet, bed and black out shades fabulous. Each staff member was gracious and extremely accomodating. The public spaces were extremely comfortable, felt like being in someone’s living room. We will be back!

The rooms are small but practical. They have everything you need.
They aren’t luxurious nor do they claim to be.
Everything is well thought out and everything worked well! This is extremely important when there is so much technology in the room that is controlled with an iPad.
This hotel would be ideal for someone travelling alone. You could only share one of these rooms with someone you are pretty intimate with as the bathroom doesn’t offer the greatest amount of privacy, and the bed is pushed up against the window so one person has to climb over the other if they want to get out.
But the service was great, it was clean, it was just as advertised.

One of my favourite boutique high tech hotel chains. Have stayed at CitizenM in NYC also. Always super clean, modern, love the mood lighting and comfy oversized bed! Small room, but has everything you need and feels like a cosy cocoon. Perfect for a short stay especially for solo business travellers. Good breakfast too.

Beautiful experience as always. This is my second time staying in CitizenM, and I keep saying it, it’s amazing, love the atmosphere, and the staff is so friendly. The location is a plus, and the neighborhood is cool and quiet too. Breakfast option is around $20 , and it’s good, but if you are staying for tourism for just a few days (it gets pretty repetitive), and if you want to know more about the city then I would recommend going out (Call your mother, Tatte, etc. The only negative thing I’d mentioned is a weird smell that we sense the last night, idk.. it was there for 10min. Not a big problem, but I understand that there are other hosts that might be annoyed by this smell. Hope to be back soon!

After getting shafted by American Airlines (per usual) at the airport when my flight got delayed, causing me to miss my connection I scrambled to find a solution. American wouldn't give me a hotel voucher because the delay was beyond their control despite other people getting one.

However, I believe things happen for a reason and it was a blessing disguise by ending up at this insanely cool, clean, and modern hotel. From check in to my short stay, this tops all the hotel experiences I've had. It's my vibe and the decor was so cool.

I'm glad I found this hotel. I highly recommend to anyone staying in DC.

Very nice hotel with a great breakfast. Rooms are pretty small but I'm not here for a conference room, just need a bed and shower.

Most comfortable bed I’ve ever been in. The hotel lounge area was a fantastic melting pot where we could grab a drink and meet interesting international travelers. We actually spent a majority of our hotel time in the lounge. Eames chairs were a nice luxurious touch. Will book in every city they’re in for the future. My hotel of choice going forward.

Very nice hotel for the price. Located in a central location, most major DC attractions are within walking distance. Rooms are small but nice, king sized bed takes up most of the space + a nice shower is included. Room was clean and well kept. Room has controllable multicolored lighting and climate which runs through an Ipad, its neat. Our bathroom came with shampoo but no soap which was a little bit annoying. The rooftop bar has a great view and good drinks, although its a touch pricey. Food was eh, but overall I enjoyed my stay here and would recommend it to anyone visiting DC.

Pretty decent hotel, I would stay here again. CitizenM's are not meant for big groups or families, but if you're a couple or solo traveler they're a good option.

Location: the location is really great. You're basically 10 minutes drive from all of the major attractions as well as Reagan airport. It's very easy to get an Uber/Lyft to take you anywhere, or you can walk to the museums in about 10-15 mins.

The hotel is a standard CitizenM, which is to say, it's about exactly what you want (although definitely a bit more pricy than would be ideal). As usual, it doesn't have an ice machine, which is really the biggest downside. The common areas are nice and here they're big enough that you don't feel on top of all the other guests. They have a luggage storage room. The rooms are nice - small, but you know that going in. The cocktails and drinks are expensive, but delicious - book w/ the app (no extra charge) to get a free drink coupon! The staff are helpful and kind.

I noticed only two problems - I have just sent an email to citizenM to let them know so hopefully they will be resolved soon.
1. One of the elevators does not require scanning a room key to get to guest room floors as it should. Obvious security issue in a city (although the immediate area that the hotel is in isn't that sketchy TBH).

2. The rooftop bar is supposed to be open and staffed between 4 and 10 pm, but it was not staffed (and was totally empty) at 6 pm on a Saturday night. I would think Fri and Sat nights would be exactly the time when you'd want to be open. At the very least they should have a sign up saying they're not open.

Loved my stay only bad things are I can’t stay here long. the week long stay I was treated like a king. Rooms not to big but for one person it was awesome. Also it’s a man name Yiggity Yak who sits out here he lives round the corner makes you feel like family so if you see him give him conversation. He was very insightful on the city. Thanks again Citizen M. Oh and the late night security guard made me feel safe as well. He did a great job checking on me when he seen me come and go late night. He even said they since working at this location he never had any bad happen and that’s a great thing. I have fallen in love my wife’s a little jealous and it’s with Citizen M at 550 School street SW

The vibe is really cool albeit weird. The features are amazing though. You get showers with led mood lighting, blackout curtains, TVs you can actually cast to, an iPad that controls everything your room, a really good bed, and some really cool carpet with satellite imagery of Washington DC. There’s also some really weird art that transcends good taste but is inoffensive

My first time staying at a citizenM hotel and it did not disappoint! I arrived a couple hours before my check in and they offered to keep my luggage onsite while I went exploring, they let me check into my room at 1:30 and the staff was incredible! Was super cool that everything in the room was controlled by a tablet. Would highly recommend staying here!

Cannot recommend this hotel and this location enough. Service was great all around (front desk, food, bar, housekeeping etc.) Hotel was exactly what you need for 2 people and still felt comfortable with some luxury. We came to DC with no itinerary and that was not an issue as when you start walking from the hotel you hit one museum, national monument, great restaurant etc. after another. Rooms were extremely clean.
