Benjamin Banneker Historical Park and Museum

Nice grounds. Good for a relaxing walk in the woods or around the museum.
The museum is small and not extraordinary, but it shows how Benjamin's life may have been like. The staff were nice and told us a little bit about Benjamin's life. They said there are special, free events at the park on a monthly basis (inc. cooking exhibits on the 3rd Saturday of the month.)
And this place is kid-friendly. My toddler daughter enjoyed playing in the outdoor kitchen and seeing the cabin. You should check it out if you are in the area

it is a 142-acre nature preserve dedicated to telling the inspiring story of Benjamin Banneker. the trails are amazing, and there’s plenty to explore.

This is a beautiful historical area that shows so much history and culture. It is highlights the life and story of Benjamin Banneker, African American intellectual and man of many skills and accomplishments.
The museum complex includes a cabin built to be authentic to the 1790s. It is a fantastic experience, with hands-on exhibits. In addition, twice a months volunteers offer demonstrations of cooking foods and methods authentic to that era. That was an incredible, amazing learning experience. And there are many more fascinating exhibits, both inside the museum and outside on the grounds.
It is a magical place to learn about very interesting history, to picnic and explore, with natural playgrounds for kids. Well worth the visit, especially on a nice day.

They have a small wooded play area for kids where there is a log boat and a sand pit and an area that looks like a campfire area. Surrounded by woods and natural habitats. You will see some curious deers and other playful small creatures. There is also a museum which you may consider to visit.

This is a terrific park that includes a variety of learning opportunities for history and nature. There is a museum inside about Benjamin Banneker, and a small nature room. Outside, there is a historical house, and a number of trails to walk on. We have attended several different events here including maple sugaring, and a history hike. The history hike started inside with information about Benjamin Banneker, and continued outside to the historical house and down a trail. It was very interesting and informative for all ages. I would recommend this park to all ages.

We had an awesome time on this trail. Maryland has so much rich history to uncover. Nature was beautiful. There was some beautiful houses along the walk. Benjamin bannecker house was not far from the trail. He was born free man and also had over a 100 acres of land. Very proud moment.

Wow what a find, right in our old hometown. A block down the street from the JW Truth Butcher, this historical park has something for everyone, and the nicest curators I've ever met. Cherry was a wonderful tour guide, showed us a movie, and even let us look inside the recreated example of Benjamin Banneker's last home. It was really nice to learn so much about a prolific 1740s Marylander who surveyed the southern boundary for our nations capital in 1791, fantastic! And they even have 140 acres of hiking trail, with an old paved over trolley route for a path. Park is free and the museum is free with a $3 suggested donation. They also host historical event days with fun things to do for kids.

Literal definition of a hidden gem. Tucked away in an unassuming place, the park delivers an historical glimpse into the life of Benjamin Banneker with a cabin, trails, and orchard, and family friendly activities.

This place is completely worth exploring. Family friendly, lots to explore. Gardens chickens, honey bees and a whole lot of well preserved history.

Wonderful museum. Unique living history event and reenactments. Friendly staff and volunteers. Multicultural. Well worth a visit.

Nice place to take young children. I skipped the Museum because I was walking my dog. Chatted with some older couples who were enjoying touring the historical buildings. Said hello on the hiking trails to 3 50+ guys riding mountain touring bikes on the trails. Definitely will go again!

Highly recommend a visit to the actual homestead of Benjamin Banneker... 142-acre of nature's beauty reflecting the life of Benjamin Banneker. The Park is an excellent historical area to relax, walk and/or meet for outings. The Museum offers fascinating as well as informative exhibitions and programs. The Baltimore County Dept of Rec and Parks team and the Friends of BBHPM are very knowledgeable and always helpful.

We visited in early December. Not many people there, which was nice. We went to hike the trails. It was not difficult hiking. Just beautiful and peaceful. There is a museum on the property but we didn't go in. We had some wee ones with us and it was a blast to see the log cabin, the clay oven, and even spotted a shelter constructed from existing sources. After explaining what the shelter was the oldest of the wee ones wanted to see if he could build one. Maybe next summer. Really enjoyed the trip

This little gem is a nugget of history worthy to be shouted from the mountain tops. The staff are committed and knowledgeable. The park itself is beautiful and well cared for. This property is rich in history. It's land and the stories it can tell, offer us Americans hope and beauty.

Great place to visit and it's free. (right now the museum is closed, but the outside space is still available)
